To be fair you are getting twice as much stuff in the collectors editiong of GW2 as any previous game has ever had in their CE. On top of that once you spend that 150$ not only do you get all that cool stuff but you never have to spend another penny on the game again. There is no Subscription. Bioware was charging 120$ I believe for their CE which came with almost nothing, and you still had to pay monthly. This is why it really isnt a big deal. We knew going in that the standard box proices may be slightly higher then WoW or SW:TOR would charge because the cost of the game and at least the first year of maintenance costs will probably be recouped in the initial sales.
Doesn't matter if the price is high or not. Businesses are out to make money.
Bottom line: if you see value in it, get it; if not, don't.
I you for having the slightest bit of common sense instead of all of this "RAAAAWWWWR OMG i cant believe the price of that thing that i dont even want to buy anyway"

Twice as much stuff as any previous game had in their CE? Older (DOS era) PC games used to have CEs with twice as much stuff as the GW2 CE, and they were still less than $100!

Of course games were cheaper then too.
Ok well lets be a little more clear. Twice that of every MMORPG CE released since EQ in 1999.
Absolute waste of money like every other CE has been. Just give me the standard Edition and I will be happy.
Wether it holds a value of 150$ can not be determined by a single person. Those are opinions. I for one have never been tempted to buy a CE before because they usually come with like 1 item and some pictures... This game is giving you like 13 different things and most of it material and not useless in game crap like SW:TOR did. This will probably be my very first CE purchase ever.

Having a bad day, so I'm going to jump on this one. These statements are flat-out lies. For the first, got to Amazon and do a search for collector's editions in video games. There are some pretty sweet CEs out there, both MMO and SPG.
For the second, a comparison:
Statue: TOR and GW2
Steelbook: TOR and GW2
Soundtrack: TOR and GW2
Artbook: GW2
Storybook: TOR
Art prints with frame (nice touch, btw): GW2
Authenticator: TOR
Digital items: appear to be comparable between the two
Did I miss anything?
GW2's CE is very nice, but this post does not help the image of the fanbase.
Sorry for responding to an obvious troll, but like I said in my opening remark.......
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

Oh come on.. BioWare charged the same price, $150, while including more things than this. A Malgus statue, a galaxy map, a book with art and stories, soundtrack discs, an authenticator, a metal box with the game discs, both flashy and useful in-game items, access to an exclusive in-game store, all in a very large, high quality packaging.
Furthermore, stating Guild Wars 2's business model is largely irrelevant for the discussion revolves around the contents of the Collector's Edition.
Nevermind. I want a three day head-start, not a one day head-start. Digital Deluxe it is.
The 3 days of headstart comes with ALL preorder editions. There is not even a 1 day headstart only access listed in any of the editions so not sure where you pulled that one from.
Read this on massively and laughed. I guess this does prove devs do not pay attention to other launches and how crappy the press was on Bioware when they included a $100.00 doll in there CE.
Also one day early of game access is a joke. People will still buy this because they are sheep and do not understand this continues to send a signal to other devs that it is ok to rip off the mmorpg playerbase. I do not agree with this and THE ONLY areasoning is they have to mark up the box price because the game is B2P.
Where the hell are people getting that the CE only gets 1 day headstart access. It says right on their news page that all editions get 3 days.

The 1 day headstart is if you preorder using a different retailer like Gamestop or Amazon. Read it at massively.
Anyone else bothered by the fact that the majority of the digital items are consumable, one time use? If I'm going to pay good money for this stuff, I expect them to be re-usable on a cooldown timer.

Well...uuuuhhh...I guess I will be purchasing it from https://buy.guildwars2.com/ directly and hoping that their shipping methods is as innovative as their game...like...getting it several days early to install and be ready for playing the headstart.
Yeah nevermind, I guess I will give up on this crowd here and go with the guy at the start of the thread who said 'sheep'. No matter what they price thier product at, no matter how gimicky the package content, most of you will pay it blindly because its GW2 and you have been wanting it for at least a year now. They should have doubled the price, I'm sure they could have gotten more than half of you to jump on it even at $300.
Continue on with your praise of your chosen game, I will be buying this game, but not on a preorder with these prices. You remember this though, all those previous games everyone bitched about the company soaking for initial box sales. You are getting exactly that right here, only you're being charged more up front with less on the back end. Unless you count being soaked for the next boxes initial sales as your back end. (And yes I did play GW1, and I have all the expansions on it, and no you didnt' get updates in the middle, you paid for them every expansion box when you bought it.) There wont be any new dungeons, zones, weapons and armor added in patch 1.2 for GW2, those will be included in that next box (sorry, digital download) you have to pay another $49 for in 6 months.
lol... so you're saying if someone is a fan of this company and the game, he's labeled as an idiot because he wants to buy the CE for 149.99 $ (SWTOR had the same prices [I'm mentioning SWTOR because it was the last mmorpg which came out]) ?
Prices for boxes are around 60-80$ for almost every new game. It seemed much when I first saw SWTOR but then I looked at other prices and saw it's kinda the same... Besides the CE which was 149.99 as well...
So you can pretend there's cheaper AAA games out there, but there isn't (new AAA games)...
About you saying there wasn't anything added in the between, it was added, mostly new main quests. But new content was added trough expansions as you said...
TERA is a AAA MMO releasing with $49.99 digital or retail normal version. $59.99 digital CE and $79.99 physical CE.
TERAs sub fee goes as low as $8.95 a month depending how long you sub for and expansions/patches have all been free in Korea and no indication they won't be here, no indication of a cash shop either.
So no, not every AAA MMO has ridiculous pricing like SW:TOR.
I don't know where you found 8.95$... it's in korea where you pay by the minute of play time, maybe...
For europe it's 14.99$ a month... Or if you were thinking about yearly sub which is 9.95$ a month then you're just pulling the last straw right there XD
I'm sure it's so much better to drop 119.40$ + 80$ box to play for 1 year than to buy GW2 CE for 150$ and play without monthly fee... so since you don't actually pay 9.95$ every month, but you are instantly charged for 119.40$ it's not a monthly fee price, you can look at it that way, but I certanly don't...
You save way more than playing a p2p model for mmorpg
GW2s famous argument for everything.
Wouldnt say its an "argument", simply the truth. People are in here whining and claiming theyre greedy for charging that price for a COMPLETELY OPTIONAL product, yet theyre providing an awesome game for no subscription when they could have easily gotten away with charging monthly. No idea how that could be interpreted as being greedy, but awesome logic some people have.
Anyone else bothered by the fact that the majority of the digital items are consumable, one time use? If I'm going to pay good money for this stuff, I expect them to be re-usable on a cooldown timer.

CE price for Europeans, 149,99 euros or 129,99 pounds. That is $200+ lol
