Like they would really print anything negative on the games site? Like I keep asking when we we see any sites like MMORPG.com, Gamespot, RPGPlanet or any number of other independent sites do a preview. The testimonials you refer to could be typed up by any PR guy and posted as a real and true testimonial by a no kidding real beta tester.
yeh yeh I am just a troll and never post anything positive right? That's seems to be the standard reply around here. Like I keep saying, shut me up. Get MMORPG.com or gamespot or PCgameworld to do a preview and I promise to change my trollish ways. The game is supposed to be released Nov 5th, that's less than 2 and a half months away. The game should be ready for a real preview by now wouldn't you think? Unless it truly sucks that is.
Sorry to be so negative and distrusting but after so many MMORPGs release and turn out to be pure crap I guess I have been burned too many times now. edit ... not that it matters it seems as if I am one of the last half dozen people who even check these boards anyway.
No need to apologize There was a time when I was really looking forward to this game - but from the information that has been released over the last months (or should I say "has not been relased") I really doubt that these guys are anywhere near reaching their project goals.
Well I know that I shouldnt give too much about what other people say, but rumor has it, that this game is moderatly nice looking but completly empty. Its one thing to create a great looking world, but this is worthless if they dont manage to fill this huge world with content... That being said this so called preview says nothing about the gameplay or content...just the same old "gosh, this game looks great" blabla..^^ No word about performance, combat system, economy and so on. He describes a battle...but what exactly is he talking about? Large scale battle? How did the engine performe here? For a PvP centered game that is planned to be release very soon, these are valid questions, I think.
If this is all they are willing to present, then they can as well save their time and invest it into improving the game until there is something of importance to say...^^
Try not to be so hard on the DEVs, the game is in Beta after all. Testimonials with info on the content is most likely against the NDA. So don't expect to see any unless there is an open public beta test.
I have to admit that this game, however, could be THE next generation MMO, with all it promises to deliver. Yet the way information-policy is dissapointing, to me ^^ But I keep my fingers crossed, that everything runs smoothly and that the will be able to hold on to the november release
The game sounds great. I think they are afraid of being burned by statements they can't back up, and, instead of making promises they can't keep, they keep hush-hush on a lot of info. Any info. released is just to keep the game on our minds. I dunno', the testimonials are, at least, something to actually read about the game that doesn't come from uniformed sources using only speculation. I take what I can get.
God forbid that they would let a independent site do a preview of their game. Only thing I can assume is that they are afraid of what would be published. Even SOE was allowing gaming sites to do previews of EQII at this stage of development.
90% of what i see and read about this game is oh wow look at the scenery look at how cool you can slide down a mountain or how high you can fly evarything looks so realistic lol. What about PvP? monsters, special hunting spots like some dark castle ruled by some crazy MOB where pvp is also allowed ecct ect. From the start this game has looked more like a hunting game where you go to your nearest forest and hunt for wild turkey or even grizzlies LoL and meditate on the beutful scenary could the devs be spending too much time on the environment then the actual fun this game can produce ?
Yeah, unless tons of stuff hasnt been implemented yet, not to mention teh "uber grahpics" that arent there. I'm really pissed I waited so long for this game. The combat is SSSLLLOOOWW
I've speculated for quite some time that this game will be a giant, beautiful world--with nothing in it. Unfortunately, the devs don't do much to quell such thoughts.
What really gets me about these people is that you see a company like Rapid Reality (developing The Chronicles and a few other smaller MMO's) and they GET IT, they get the fan base is what is going to push your game out there, they get that if the community supports them, we can and we WILL make the game a hit, and this is from a much smaller development team.
And then we have these people that give out a little bit of information here and there, hardly anything that people actually want to know and they keep the community players base at arms length. I really just don't get it, at all.
This game fell off my radar as soon as they confirmed there would be no dungeons -- not even small underground areas. Now, unless this is some sort of quasi-RTS, that's a serious detriment to any MMORPG.
I really don't put much into hype, good or bad, before I play a game. Although, I do feel robbed when I play a lousy game. I'm not sure why horrible games get published. I just hope I am not disappointed when I get this game.
I always wish the best for every game I hear about (even that Hello Kitty game -- I wonder how that one is doing anyway). But when a game that is blatently horrible gets published and tanks (Horizons is one fresh in my memory), it puts all the other actually good experimental games in jeopardy of losing funding -- or not getting it in the first place -- so all we end up with is more of these polished, but same-old-thing games like WoW. Sure, those kinds of games are fun; but they are fun as in racing go-karts at Play Land fun, not turning me into an unemployed chair zombie 12-months without leaving the house fun...

You have never seen a review of a game before launch. At most you will see a tiny blurb from somebody like PCGamer which only shows what the devs want to show anyway.
The cons far outweigh the pros in allowing an "independant" party to preview their game. There are MILLIONS of dollars at stake that could hinge on one person's feelings of a game?! I'm not saying the game isnt broke from here to eternity, but COME ONE MAN would you take that kind of risk if it was your money and company on the line.

Answer: NO
Funny if I go to Google and type in game preview on the search guess how many hits I get. Dunno where you have been but it is a fairly common practice. Do some research and you will find quite a few of past games. Generaly it involves the Devs inviting people intotheir studio and showing their game off their but some allow the sites into beta with the restrictions on what they can print. for example EQII only allowed sites to "preview" up to a certain level for months before release.
