Stipulation on guaranteed access of beta. Must pre-purchase. Not pre-order

FalcomithFalcomith Member UncommonPosts: 831

It seems if you want guaranteed access to weekend betas, you must pre-purchase (pay in full).

Pre-orders (deposit only) dont get guaranteed beta access and only get one day head start. See link.

You can get into beta without pre-ordering, it's just not guaranteed.

Always hated the "you have to pay to get into beta" approach...That really turns me off from a game.

You don't *have* to pay, paying just guarentees access. Otherwise it's like the beta event at the end of this month.

I think it's perfectly fair. If you've paid money into arenanet's pocket, i think it's fine for them to allow you to definitely play the game before release in the beta's.

    I am not surprised.

If you buy the game directly from Anet they will get all the money. If you on the other hand preorder a physical copy several other hands want to split the money so they earn probably 3 times as much if you pre buy it from them directly.

Not to mention the cost of making a physical copy of course.

That is why they are giving you both 3 days head start, beta access and a few other goodies if you buy it from them directly. That you pay before you get the game making it harder for the people who pay 5 bucks at their store but never picks uop the copy really isn't the point here.

    I can understand them.

You can pre-purchase from 'selected retailers' which include physical and digital versions. It's not just direct from ANet. All the goodies are available regardless of retailer. They're not doing an EA.

Not to say i wouldn't blame them either, but they're not doing that :)

I didn't realize that beta access is a right.  Sense of entitlement these days.

To be fair, it is ok that you hate that they are doing this.  But this to cause you to be sour on the game is just silly.

But you don't have to feel this way, because Theocritius' post is not true, so it doesn't matter.

    +1

I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)

Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.

Maybe it is the opposite view? They may feel that it would be better if everyone (regular people) had equal chance to test first-hand despite prepurchasing or not.

Why are we taking sides on a subject that doesn't exist?

Like Loke666 said earlier, its most likely  to prevent people from putting the $5 preorder deposit down, get into beta, and come release the person never picks up the game and so Arenanet doesnt get the money.

After all the beta is not meant as a trial to see if you like it. It, at this point, is designed to stress test and find as many of the remaining bugs.

Yeah, I agree with you in that sentiment. However, I do believe that's why many people would want to get into the beta, to test to see if it lives up to their expectations.

It could be but I doubt it.  If he really had altruistic intentions the language he used would be a lot different.

If you are that cautious about 60 dollars, wait a few months after launch to see if other people like it.

Public betas are for mass promotion and word of mouth promotion. It has nothing to do with fixing bugs or problem cause most of the time 80% of the issues found in public betas are left in the game.

And if it was the case with GW2, then why limit guaranteed access to pre-purchases only.

If that is the issue then pay the 60 to prepurchase, get beta access then call your CC company and tell them to remove the charge.

if that was actually the case why not have open beta... hell why not just let everyone play for free for weeks up until launch... why are they staggered, why are they weekends... why once a month?

You don't have to pay to get into beta, everyone CAN get in, but everyone will NOT. So if you preorder you are garunteed beta acces. I think this is only fair.

I dont buy that (no pun intended). There is always people who cant afford the full price and rather pay the $5 deposit early to secure a box while they save up.
