World of Darkness Still Actively In Development

RohnRohn Member UncommonPosts: 3,730

According to an interview with David Reid on TTH, development on WoD is still going strong, with 60 developers actively working on the title.  An excerpt from the interview:

"Everyone here realizes what a tremendous opportunity we have.  To do what’s been done here with EVE – the economy, the persistence, the Machiavellian politics that players do to construct their own content – imagine what that can be like in a modern era intellectual property, in something everyone understands. We don’t all know how to pilot a spaceship, but we all know how to kill a vampire. And that’s the case even if we haven’t played Vampire: The Masquerade."

Very good news, in my opinion.

As much as I love the setting, as Much as I love playing VtM, I wonder how they can get this to work. You can NOT have a city full of Vampires... 100,000 mortals per Kindred is a good rule of thumb in VtM. IF everyone is a vampire it is no longer cool.

The only thing I could think of to make it work was have a Victim™ game that people can play for free (think 2nd life) to give the world a pulse..

I guesss we will have to wait to see how they present it.

    Start everyone as humans..

Could do it like SWG originally did Jedi.. needed a visit from the mysterious old man to be able to become jedi.

In this need to be turned to be a vampyre.

That's not how SWG players unlocked their Jedi slot.

I am so very sceptical about this.

The only way this is not going to turn out to be just a dumbed down version of the table-top is if there is a genius at work.

In my opinion there is no way to balance this game right with all factors/factions.

I think we're all skeptical of this, but skeptical is better than hopeless :)

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

I know it was a long drawn out process with random elements, but pre-NGE after you got glowie the next step to unlock jedi was the visit from the old man. Don't try and tell me I was days away when SOE decided to give everyone the ability to respec into jedi's

I am gonna be real pissed off if you can't walk around in WoD and instead you pick a clan of vampire and watch a building as your minions go do things.

CCP: Some people don't want to play an inanimate object. I'd like to actually have a character that I can use and see in one of your games.

I'm not trying to tell you. I am telling you. There was no old man in the unlock process for pre-NGE jedi. It was always about profession mastery. You received an unlock message when you mastered the final profession that was needed for your character. I know because I was one of the first jedi on my server.

I'd love it but todays fast food want everything handed on silver platter short attention span gammers i think this mechanic would relegate the game to niche rather than mass appeal and i got a hunch with dust and WoD ccp wants a bigger audience then Eve has but personally earning something that has a lasting and meaningful impact that is more than gear is something i am dying for pun intended

I wouldnt be suprised if they made this a sandbox. think about it, this is CCP we are talking about. why go away from what they know. i see potential for WoD if they make it sandbox.

    Because i can.

If your going to make a Vampire game, why even make Non-Vamp a playable race.  Oh you can, but it would probably be out numbered.  By Non-Vanp I mean Human, and not werewolf or mage.  Wouldn't all humans just be NPCs or mobs?

As if it could exist, without being payed for.
F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.

From what they've said so far, it will probably be sandbox as hell. They've said the players will be responsible for most of the story creation, and social interaction and politics will be the biggest focus of the game. Also, everyone will start as a human, with a chance to become a vampire later.

And every character can die permanently, probably with winner-take-all duels.

For any vampire game there would probably be more depth in having mortals as you now have the ability to 'embrace' new vampires into the fold or even have such things as vampire hunters. In a way, a mortal playable character could be something live Survival Mode, where you see how long you can stay alive before you're caught and killed or made a creature of the night.

I hope you are right :) except for the perma-death. I usually love-to-death my rpg's chars, and see them die always make me cry >_>  btw is that official or what?

Then youre ta;lkign bullshit since you had to unlock by grinding profession and once you got to a sertain state in the glowie proces you got a vissid of the old man , you had to stay out of npc towns for it and could speed it up by hopping from player city to playercity shuttle port.

you sir aperently never unlocked jedi or have a very hazy dazy lazy mind.

as for WoD , there  has bin no news about any form of premadeath by the developers, and yes ofc that game is still in development, no game studio is going to trow away a year+ in development away just for some other game they got running :P

No it isn't. CCP have attended the last 2 Grand Masquerade events and they have not confirmed or denied permadeath as yet. They have confirmed that the game will be sandbox with themepark elements, it will be open PvP with safe areas (similar to EVE) and that there wil be no mage or werewolf race at launch, but you can play as a human if you want to.

someting  like that yea, was just a nod toward that silly thread tittle  "Still Actively In Development!" Well Whit Capital Letter DuhhHuu

(Like how can someting not be "In Active development"  you either are developing a game .. or not developing it. even if you write one line of code each day..its still being developed..whit a activity of one line of code each day.. )
