So far ever since EQ arived on the market innovations to the genre have been small... here a small list of the most important ones in the Fantasy genre :
DAoC : RvR and instanced battlefields, realmpoints, gearleveling system in atlantis, most diverse class system.
Horizons ; Node gathering and crafting (also an awesome spell system)
WoW : Instanced dungeons, smaller raids
GW1 : E-sports PvP, easy to reach gear caps, duall classing, henchmen and heroes, instanced quest telling, top quallity minigames
EQ2 : Crafting minigame, instanced housing, playerbuild dungeons
Lotro : Story Books, monster play, skirmishes
Vanguard : True seemless world, moving at half speed while casting spells, political game (cards)
Warhammer online : Public quests, PvP zones
AoC: positional mellee combat system. spellweaving
Aion; NPC faction in their PvP
DCUo: Arcade combat system(loved it very much) clothing system, instanced heavy quest system
Rift: Class system, Dynamic rifts
SW:TOR : visually stunning story/quests; companions and crafting,
To make, my point, every game only had a few fresh things to try and be different from the rest. Obviously that wasnt enough for most people, So will GW2 really be as innovative as we hope it is? as many ingredients are allready on my list above.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Comments
WvWvW, Remaking the trinity, no instanced end game raiding(Aion did not have 20man content either, so not that original actually)
so how did this end up in the GW department and not in the GW2 department, either i was blinded, or the interwebgods are playing strange games with me. If a mod reads this please send it over to the GW2 forums.
