Warhammer. That was the day I started seeing the world much like you miserable bunch of malcontents do. Before that I was all optimistic and positive and stuff. Actually......It was released in 2008, the same year I registerd on this website. Coincedence?.......I don't think so.
DDO was my HUGE disappointment. I was lucky in that I got in on the beta test and found the game not as expected right away, before buying the box.
I was expecting a game like Dungeon's & Dragons. DDO is nothing like D&D.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR

I second that. They took what is arguably one of the most fleshed out fantasy IPs and turned it into utter dog sh*t.

From those three WHO has to be the worst case of bait and switch I have ever experienced - a developer and a publisher commanded by Paul Barnett constantly talking and showing videos of Open World RvR only to log in (after a horribly handled release in Europe) and find out almost all their effort was put into scenarios, with RvR lakes and keeps being an absolute joke.
On a personal dissapointment - Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising. I knew the game was not going to be spectacular, but being a fan of Roman history I decided to give it a go. Worst idea ever.
A lot of games didn't live up to my expectation. That might be due more to me than the game. But the one game that made me say "what the hell we're they thiniking" the most was.....The Matrix. This title was a no brainer MMO for me. I mean, really, living life in a computer. Should have been the Perfect MMO and it was anything but. Been along time since I played it so I can't remember the details. But after a week of every free second I had I came to relize that it was getting worse and not better. I had tried over the next 2 years to play again, but the game had nothing. ugh...total disappointment
Still gives me those little "wasted purchase" shivers.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Swtor for sure. I just played the Beta and knew it was not going to be anything great. Had its good points, but I never even subbed or bought the thing.
I was going to say Star Trek Online, but I actually got through the Beta and played a month of that at least, having some enjoyment and fun along the way. Cant say that about Swtor.

Hell yes! It was an act of the most knuckle dragging inbred incompetence ever seen in all the land. I am more angry at myself for beliveing in it, but that was the last time I went with the hype. The only hype I have belived in since that day is Aion, Age of Conan, Darkfall, Mortal, Rifts, APB., Dc Universe Online, Tor and Gw2. You live and learn gang, you live and learn!
Aion and AoC I think were the worst for me. AoC I expected it to be crap and bought it, then tortage made me think holy shit this is fantastic possible the best mmo ever. Then i hit level 20 and everything changed.
Aion I was expecting an amazing pvp mmo with nice graphics. Did get the pvp mmo but nobody mentioned the grind. Last time I'll ever believe a company when they say "westernization."
again my vote goes for GW2 I won't be burned like that again, and the new wow expansion pack. Both were terrible. Even WoW2 looks disappointing. I am keeping my money until World of Starcraft comes out, and may try EQ3. Until then i shall continue to play SWG, which was vastly improved by NGE. Thank God they changed that game's play engine, and i think most people will agree. Also, looking forward to buying the collectors edition of FFIV.
I have a tie between WAR, ohh how Mythic screwed the pooch on this one. The other being Rift, the game was a carbon copy of WoW and the things it tried to do differently were not emphasized enough plus the world was literally like the size of a cup cake box.
Playing: GW2 Waiting on: TESO Next Flop: Planetside 2 Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
FFXIV easily. Had the best time of my MMO life playing FFXI, so I thought they would take what they learned from XI, and put that into XIV and make it even better, not go backwards. The fact they STILL haven't addressed all the problems from Closed Beta is astonishing to me, cause I really wanted to love this game.

Are you vying for Refminor's crown? I think he is still king of Sarcasm... maybe you could go for duke? Nice try tho.
I would say FFXIV followed by Age of Conan followed by Warhammer Online followed by Star Trek Online followed by Aion followed by SWTOR.
World of Warcraft was fun for the 6 months I played. I never tried Earthrise. I did play EVE Online for like 6 months as well, but that game kicked my tushie.
FFXIV is easily the worst of the bunch in my nearly 13 years of MMO'ing. I would say nothing comes close. Age of Conan comes second because after you left newbie island (which was one of the best experiences I had) it left you in this very cold and saggy empty world. It's like Funcom came out of the screen and slapped my silly.
Warhammer Online and Star Trek Online are listed for obvious reasons. Aion is there simply because NCSoft and NCWest just didn't know how to take care of the game over here in the West (nor did it seem they cared enough). SWTOR was fun from level 1-49, but it felt like a very easy single player game.
WAR for me, although luckily the crushing disappointment hit me in beta and headstart and I was able to cancel my CE pre-order before making a very costly mistake. I was so hyped about that game, being a long-time fan of Warhammer on the tabletop, and loving everything I was hearing out of the Barnett & Jacobs hype machine. But once I was able to actually see the game in action it was clear that it had all gone horribly wrong, as they served up a buggy mess that got buggier with every beta patch leading towards release.
I've checked out the trial a couple of times since, and the game actually seems pretty well fixed up and in decent shape now.. but the ship has sailed.
sadly SWTOR got to be the biggest disappointment for me aswell.
second biggest disappointment is Age of Conan!
both are fails and runs on rails. both would have done better with an auto play button! lol so you can just sit and watch it like a movie because the freedom in those games are so limited and forced controlled beyond me how they can call it mmorpgs even. But hey thats just my opinion.
SWTOR really saddened me when I closed my account this month. The game bored me to tears. I miss the old game before they screwed it up with NGE. Oh well but that's a really old arguement...so that's my answer SWTOR.
Probably Everquest 2. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a bad game at all, but as a long time veteran of the original, I was expecting a lot more.
Honorable mention would go to Horizons, except that by the time it came out we knew it was going to suck. Still, that game should be a lesson to anyone who buys into early pre-alpha hype of a game.
have to agree with Horizons bugs i mean comon, my chars multiple times gets its feet stuck in tiny hole on the ground and couldnt move after that and no /stuck option. also monsters that didnt stop chasing thro mountains and beyond but then again i didnt wait anything from the game at the time. i voted for warhammer cause i actually was victim of hype.
but the list is huge for dissapointments but the biggest ever is personally in lotro, world is amazing inbooks, films etc but the NON option to players be able to play as saurons forces against free people players would have been goldmine.
instead we got that lousy monsterplay. now that was biggest dissapointment.

Life.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.
Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2

Everything you need to know about Elder Scrolls Online
Playing: GW2
Waiting on: TESO
Next Flop: Planetside 2

LOTRO by far. What it could have been (Sandbox - Middle Earth Online) instead we got a poor wow clone in just about every way.
Are you vying for Refminor's crown? I think he is still king of Sarcasm... maybe you could go for duke? Nice try tho.
Currently bored with MMO's.
I would say FFXIV followed by Age of Conan followed by Warhammer Online followed by Star Trek Online followed by Aion followed by SWTOR.

Why is EvE on this list, its a old game ans free to try.
Starwars would of been ok if it was a single player game.
I dont rember why i quit playing AoC or LotR
I stop playing Warhammer becuase my old pc could not handel it and i guess the servers couldnt ether by restricking the amount of poeple in sieges.

Definitely Warhammer Online. EA did a bad example as a WoW challenger.
Looking for good ARPGs!
I would like to add Vanguard to the list along with FFXIV.
sadly SWTOR got to be the biggest disappointment for me aswell.
