I'll never forget when I was 4~ years old sitting in the theater (which my parents obviously brought me to god bless them) and shitting my pants when I was watching storm-troopers hauling ass through a dense forsest with E-woks mobbing all over the place on those 'hoovering motorcylces' which I thought they were at time time.

Its a much different world than what it was in 1979 or whenever it was the first Star Wars came out. Its not just the tone or mood of the movies that has derailed the series with the old fan base. In he late 70's you'd hear about this awesome sci-fi film from your neighbor or family member. You'd probably catch some reporter with ridiculous hair talking about it on your local news, or maybe read a snip about it in the newspaper. But generally, it was the family and friends people close to you who helped shaped your opinions *shock*. Star Wars did have something magical about it, but the timing was the most important factor, as it is with most anything else.

Now that we have the internets and are connected with so many people, were just not that easily amused anymore. If we want to find out if we wanna see a movie or not we just google the freakin reviews of it and decide if its worth seeing in the theater, a rental or what. Everything is scrutinized, EVERYTHING. And our ever growing standards and our own egos are being fed constantly since we have such unlimited options available to us, we can just settle in to a comfy little corner of cyberspace that suits us and spurn all others with harsh venom from the safety of our living room. No need to conform, no need to please our family and friends, we have ourselves to please and its instant gratificaton time and we'll be damned if its going to be Star Wars its going to be done our way or not at all god damn it.

George may be a putz, but he's right to tell people to go fuck themselves. I do it all the time, just without the ridiculous facial hair. Seriously george nothin wrong with a neckbeard.

Don't think so. This generation of kids think the old trilogy was terrible and boring but love the new ones. This generation would have no idea how to continue the saga in a way of creative vision that 4-6 had. Lucas is taking it to the grave and that it.

It's probably best for Star Wars to just get planted into the ground.  Fat chance of that happening though.  We'll continue to see Star Wars get raped over the table.  Nothing since TPM came out has been decent.  Yeah, I said it.

I was around 12 when The Phantom Menace came out and obviously I saw and loved The Original Trilogy as did most of my friends, however technically I grew up with the new trilogy. I remember going to see Phantom on my mates birthday and we all hated it, lots of people left the cinema and people boo'd at the end. It's the only film I've seen where that has happened to because it was so bad even us 12 year olds hated it.

What I never understood was he was obviously aiming at getting kids liking the film and yet there are so many boring scenes with politicians talking about a load of bullshit that doesn't make sense. You never saw any of that in The original Trilogy and there was heavy talking scenes it was always well written and witty. In the new films the characters have no personality, they aren't likable and the acting is all wooden with the worst script.

I hope Lucas dies, I really do so he doesn't Star Wars anymore because I just know he'll do something stupid in 10 years like remaking the Original Trilogy lol.

The day the remake the Original Trilogy is when Hollywood goes into "remake mode" for older movies.  Oh wait...

The hype leading into TPM's release was actually better than all the Prequel Movies that actually released.

TBH though, I personally think Lucas started going batsh*t crazy in the time of ROTJ.  A scene of clumsy, stupid action, i.e. Han Solo clumsily taking out Boba Fett.  And this also began Lucas' fixation for kid-friendliness:  The godd*mn Ewoks.  I could live with the dumb way of taking out Fett, but the Ewoks singlehandedly almost sank the entire movie.  The overall movie was still pretty good, due to the great heroes and villains, most of the fights, and of course, the absolutely epic space battle above Endor.  And don't forget the Speederbike chase through the forests of Endor.  Still the best chase ever in a Star Wars movie.  But the Ewoks.... OMG, even when I was a kid seeing this movie in the theater, I hated them.

It's also around the timeframe of ROTJ that Lucas made that TV show where a family is stranded on Endor and befriends the Ewoks.  I saw an episode and cast myself away from that trash.

But again, Lucas began losing his touch with ROTJ.  It's been bad from there on.  Before ROTJ, he was a movie GOD.  ANH?  ESB?  Let's not forget his collaboration with his friend, Steven Spielberg for the classic Indiana Jones, which was another chance for Harrison Ford to show off his chops and have another iconic character under his belt.

You can't blame the poor reception of the Star Wars prequels on the internet when the prequels came out long, long before most people even knew what the fuck the internet was. I remember watching and enjoying the first trilogy in the 90s as a child. I also distinctly remember going to the theatre with my parents to watch the prequels and being completely off put, finding them boring, and non-sensical. Near the start of Phantom Menace I actually asked my dad, who was a hardcore sci-fi fan, if he knew what was going on/could he tell me. I could tell from the expression on his face that he was pissed off already and figured he had missed something himself. He finally responded that he didn't know either.

The phantom menace is, in fact, the only movie that completely fucking lost me (or either of my parents) like that. It has that dubious honor. The prequels just flat out fucking sucked and that's all she wrote.

I am also further inclined to believe that the original trilogy was more attributable to the studio than to Lucas after everything I've seen.

Just my opinion but my ranking of Star Wars films from Best to Worst :

     1. The Empire Strikes Back ...Awesome Movie fantasticly done with the Ahh Snap moment of "Luke I am your Father moment" for those that were old enough to see it at the Theaters when it originally was shown, pre internet days they could keep secrets back then, yes I am old

2 Star Wars...A New hope I guess now it is called. Great movie and original.

3 The Return of the Jedi ,Still a great movie not as good as the first two and was satisfied with the ending untill the Sequels were to come out.GL made too much money hence the long wait till even doing the prequels, and then backed out of the sequels.Which he said he was going to do in the early 80's

4.The Revenge of the Sith,I thought it was better than the other 2 prequels by far .I was  Ok with the ending

     5. The Clone Wars. Another good I guess movie, still better than the 1st one.At least it had alot of action

     6. The Phantom Mentace, obviously since it was the first Star wars movie since the astoundingly well done Star Wars trilogy that ended with TROTJ .I was like WTF?! George Lucas what have you done ?

    I'm so glad he's overweight.

I hope he gets diabetes and loses a toe.

NOT EVEN DIES. Just a toe so every time he stands, he's always slightly off-balance

Starwars has already served it's purpose, in proving that Science Fiction on the silver screen isn't just Tentenacle-alien-monster-death-rape horror subgenre.

He was really just the first person there, I mean I grew up on other sciencefiction and I really don't consider the writing style too different in ANY of the movies(starwars wasn't my first SciFic movie written in old-epic style).   and they're all kind of good but other stuff I'd rather watch.   As far as I'm concerned all the Old-bies who like the old starwars AND hate the new ones are seeing things through a nice silver lining.
