does anyone else find it scary that they want you to pay for a game ahead of time before even a beta has begun?

Yes, but it doesnt apply to this game. Considering beta has been running for quite some time.

Well.... from what i have read, they have had some betas already take place. Unlike games like GW2 and Tera, they have yet to have a press beta/open beta which would then give us loads of video/info with which to base an opinion of the game on. I guess for myself, before i choose to purchase a game, i like to see something like a press beta/open beta which allows gamers to go in and actually get a feel for what they think, then come back and with video for support, show us their opinions. So, in response to your post, technically some betas have taken place.

Ahh okay the wording of the email i received made me think it wasn't even in progress. hmmm
Yeah they have had beta going for several months now, and alot of content has been reviewed up to and including much of the carpathian zone, and the crafting systems. It is alot more scary the thought of how much more customization, team play, and comboing you can get in the game setting. Even the story/lore setting is also quite scary for how well it is done to keep it believible, yet still fantisy like wihtout over doing it. Yet how people can make this kind of statement of no betas having happened, without chacking out several sources, and then make themselves look like complete dim-wits for posting it is beyond scary trully mind blowing really.
That was part of my confusion, you see the wording of the email advertising the preorder of the game combined with a complete blanket on videos of gameplay really left me wondering if they had any betas at ALL.
whatever the case is, ill get this game maybe when the price drops. I like the game and i will definitelly play it...... some day. Not at launch. Perhaps when they learn that they just dont go around charging for everything (f2p anyone?)
Wait what? No info out or availible on what part of the game? THere is info about the combat machanics, setting, factions, item usage (such as what is vanity, or not.), the zones, and even abit on the warzones and such. Alot of it might be buried back further in youtube, and such but that does not mean there is no info out. there are gameplay vids, i think i have seen some pvp vids, and even many longer vids of disgussion on what the gam is and how it is done really. Check the site, youtube or other such sites, and even wikis there is alot more then people think.
purhaps he means video info, i can't seem to find much either in that regard, which is why i didn't think they were doing betas at all really. couldn't find much.

Could you post some of the better ones you know of? On youtube when you get to page 4 of "the secret world" search, its just the same like 9 videos over and over again and by page 6 its not even the same game. God only knows why mario starts popping up. Just wondering cause everything on there i have seen (trailers and first 30 minutes of game footage, mixed with gdc) and would like to know more.

That I agree on, Im more concerned about how they made us sign up on facebook for the secret war which.. still hasnt started (considering it was suposed to be tied with beta) is odd, they pushed the game back but still, otherwise the war would start a tad... late.
Then ofcourse the previous garanteed beta offers on which they still havent made good on. So there definately are plenty of red flags.
But the game still looks and sounds amasing, but the red flags DO keep me from investing more money into that game before its actually released.
I would then ask where you are looking as even just looking at the site they have several vids there. Just checking youtube for "tsw gameplay" gives you a run thru of he first dungeon, and then add in that you have the wids of the flashback in tokyo too, and even many vids of them discribing the systems and info of the game as well as setting. This screams of checking sites for several minutes at most, and then complaining that nothign comes of it, or down right just lieing for the sake of making another poster sound correct.
And yes give me a bit and i will post what i find. for all.

well actually i didn't make but one assumption, which was that betas weren't on their way, and i managed to be appologetic about it. I find people are often more helpful when they find out that you know you aren't informed and actually seeking data on a subject. Not sure your experience in the GW2 forum. Hopefully you weren't one of the multitudes of crazy insane posts in there recently. You know the ones.

you know, posts that give you brain cancer. I hope mine wasn't received that way in this forum I'm always open to more info about anything and was posting because i received an email from these people trying to sell me their game in what i perceived was entirely too early.
the game doesnt launch until June 19th. they are entering more public beta this month. you still have plenty of time to see actual gameplay. no one is forcing anyone to pre-order TSW.

Wow, game looks awesome. liking the mechanics, the storylines, game settings, open-ended character customization. Can't wait to see what vids they release next showing coming info

There is three vids pretty easy to find actually, right on the first page really that show info on the game, gameplay,a nd info abbout the system.

As far as Ive seen the shop isnt p2w.
If by that you mean players use a character with spells and or weapons to beat a boss, then yes you are right.
The world is dynamic yes.
Its far from a WoW clone, that and WoW with a shop? WoW HAS a shop.
Yeah, these are some of the ones i have seen, minus the savage coast walkthru of the forth one. Missed it somehow. Course when i loaded it, it started off as a mens underwear Calvin Klein ad. not what i thought was going to pop up...
