Ads DURING TV shows now

madazzmadazz Member RarePosts: 2,115

I will admit that I rarely watch TV now a days, but I saw something tonight for the first time. Someone else was watching TV and as they walked away I peered up from my phone to take a gander and saw a small add at the bottom of the screen. I can't recall what it was for, but it was a product and not for another show. So not only have TV shows gone from 26 minutes down to 21.5 minutes, and commercials with louder volumes than the show itself (which is illegal in canada now, but they still have till september to fix it as apparently it takes over a year to learn to NOT do it), but now we have ads DURING the show.

I am not talking product placement either. I am talking about ads similar to the ones on Youtube that pop up and you have to close. There are many websites I won't go to a result of this as they already have ads above, below, to the sides of the video. Last thing I need is to click an ad off when I already have something distracting and flashing near the video itself. Heck, whenever an ad loads up on a site that blocks what I am reading I simply leave the site and read the info elsewhere.

I watch TV rarely when its a show I really want to catch, but its mostly Netflix now a days. I hope Netflix doesn't pull this or its instant cancel right away!

Sorry for the rant, I just had to let it out Hahhaha.

Join the ever growing group of people that have stopped watching TV. They have been planting advertisements all around the screen, often covering up the show, for a while now. One of these actually covered up something we were supposed to see in a big reveal and was important to the plot, I shit you not. Other than the local news and Law & Order, the only show I'm interested in is Merlin which doesn't even show in the US until a year after it's released in the UK. So I end up watching it online and wait for the last season to be out on region applicable dvds. I'm getting into Lost, I guess, but again I just watch it online.

Wouldn't said "impetus" be the ads placed which drove the person to seek another format to watch the program sans "ads"?Or is that what you are trying say and I am misunderstanding your reply?
