I've always been curious about what kind of a person uses a video game statue to decorate their house. They must have 8 eyes instead of 4 and wear their underwear pre-wedgied.
That could be said for many things. Some collect model cars, other Star Wars figures, maybe GI-Joe figures, others collect art, and others coins. Its just a hobby of a collector. Most collectors / hobbiest are completly normal people. Do you have a hobbie? I bet someone might think you are strange for it. Especially if its video games.
I guess I am just surprised at how many MMORPG statue collectors there are out there. I mean, there must be a serious following for these things. Almost every game that comes out now has at least a small figurine that you can get with it.
One difference though is that coins, art, GI-Joe, old Star Wars stuff and models cars are all worth money to someone. Rarity is important in most of those situations. I feel like video game statues are never going to be worth anything more than their decorative value to the person holding it. Although I guess in a bigger set of statues that could actually be interesting to see.
Who knows, maybe some day they will actually have value like old comic books or baseball cards.
Cash grab from beta testers? next thing will be dungeons that can only be accessed only if you buy them from the cash shop? I want to play this game, but will wait after release; so I am not pre-purchasing/ordering.
So with pre-purchasing it tomorrow, would we be able to play the beta right away?
Not right away, but whenever the beta weekends are (ie: beta is not continuously running). They said there'd be one in late April, so we actually get to play the game THIS MONTH. I'm very excited.
Pre-orders have become a suckers game. Whether the game is good or bad it sends the wrong messages to most of these developers. Now if I could test drive the game then make my pre-order that would be different, but buying blind or on word of mouth can get you and your money separated fast.
QFE; it doesn't matter how much video you've seen or how many articles you've read- until you have played the live build you cannot guarantee what you're going to get. Pre-ordering just tells the devs and publishers that they are marketing their game well. I don't pay for marketing- I pay for gameplay.
I encourage everyone to not buy in order to support the travellers who still, in 2012, get regional locks.
Region lock? I didn't know it'll be region locks since they said there won't be any... Will there be?
The only mmorpg I know which had region locks this year was SWTOR....
It'll be region locked, basically you need to buy the EU or NA versions to play from those (they have two datacenters, EU and NA). Aparently any region not covered defaults to NA, the page will list the correct version and price you'll need. The servers themselves will not be region locked, though, you can select any server you want to visit and/or play on and they said that NA and EU players will be able to play together from day 1.
EDIT: from their facebook:
Is my copy of Guild Wars 2 tied to my region?
Yes. To play from North America you must purchase a North American copy of the game. To play from Europe you must purchase a European copy of the game. Note that this restriction impacts where you can play from, not which game worlds you can choose to play on.
By purchasing the correct copy of the game, you're supporting the game in your country, and you'll be connecting to your local data center, using your local customer support team, and downloading the correct language support for your country.
Later they posted this one:
Here are some answers and clarifications for you! First, if you purchase the game from https://buy.guildwars2.com/ you'll automatically be sorted into the right region.
And don't worry -- we want you to play with your friends wherever you are. This policy only affects where you can login from -- not which worlds you can access. People from NA will be able to play with people from EU at launch. We've got two datacenters -- one in NA and one in EU. Those who do not fall into either of those two regions will default to the NA datacenter.
Finally, we are aware that a lot of our players travel, and we are looking into a solution for you.
Hope that helps some! ~RB2
Didn't know this... Thank you!

I'm looking forward to the game, but won't be pre-ordering. I'll buy it a month after release. This way all the overcrowding will get sorted out before i get on.

I always prepurched GW expansions since Nightfall and never got disappointed. The title "ANet" is a guarantee me that it'll hit high. It's not the marketing, it's the experiences with them. (Awesome games before, best support I ever saw.)
well 1 or 2 years ago i preordered a box version from Gamestop....or to be more accurate they accepted my money and gave me a receipt 1 or 2 years ago.
I'll be pre purchasing two copies. I know 7 people from my old guild are pre purchasing as well and a lot of the others I know will be getting it, just not sure when so I can't speak for them. Good times.

sorry, digital deluxe
Gamestop is only taking preorders. Pre-purchase starts April 10th. However Arena Net stated in the forums that you can swap it for pre-purchase from gamestop if you are planning to grab a beta. http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/usa-pre-purchase-information-t33652.html?p=1309958#post1309958
Hubby and I will be ordering our Digital Deluxe tomorrow. The CE is for the progeny.

Is it only me or Guild Wars 2 is rather expensive: 50 - 60 £ ?
well im going to buy it anyway so might as well pre-buy it tomorrow and get to play in the beta ^^
In about 8 hours I will be buying my two copies.
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???
Be afraid.....The dragons are HERE!
Not until I can play it for myself. I have too many concerns, including issues with the cash shop.

Aye! Digital standard here.
Not right away, but whenever the beta weekends are (ie: beta is not continuously running). They said there'd be one in late April, so we actually get to play the game THIS MONTH. I'm very excited.
No, standard digital will still be available at launch.
