I didn't read anything but the first and the last page, but even I can see that those prices are kinda expensive. Seems to be a running trend that the US/Canada get's the best deal of say $60, but then Europe and England seem to get prices in their currency of about the same - which is horridly more expensive.
I think they need to drop those so they're equal to the American equivalent. And don't bs me about "Oh it's worth more because it doesn't have a sub", I love GW2 and I've already prepurchased it - but at a reasonable 60 dollars. This whole situation seems to be a problem for our entire medium where NA get's charged a reasonable price and then our friends across the pond get horrendously price gouged. Just an example of the first game that came up in my feed: Dark Souls is $40 at most retailers in the US and 40 Euros at most European retailers, that's 52 dollars. The industry seems to think that the Euro is equal to the dollar or something.
From reading some recent comments, it sounds like this game does cost more in EU. If that's the case, I would wonder what the reasoning might be. I don't see a reason for EU to pay more than US. However, I'm sure there's a way to purchase this for the US price considering the market power of the internet.
There are some resellers starting to pop up i believe(was looking at eve online and they have some links on their website). But some publishers have decided to force customers to pay regional prices. i.e. if you live in the eu you must buy the eu version. Not sure if this will apply to gw.
I was shaking my head today as well when seeing the price.
Funny seeing UK on the losing end for a change though, usually their game prices are one of the, if not the lowest within europe, and often lower than US as well.
However, both cosmetically and merchant-wise it is definitely pay to win. Although those aspects are not as important as PvE and PvP, they are sufficiently important for a significant amount of people.
How do you 'win' cosmetically? You have more things to wear than I do? I fail to see the advantage (other than envy that I couldnt have it without buying) - but thats hardly winning imo.
I think people take the whole cash shop pay 2 win thing too seriously. I have to grind "longer" then someone who bought xp packs? ok. Guess Im lucky, for me its not the destination but the journey...
Did you play GW1?
For many people the GW1 'endgame' was cosmetic items.
Actually did the 20 day trial thing. I have to say I didnt like it :-/ Im a combat junkie, and the combat was nice... something about the story or presentation didnt give me immersion. Im funny about how my Lore is presented. It has to 'work' (for me) if you know what I mean.
From what I say of GW2 its a world of difference, and the combat + exploration (I can swim!) might hook me. Either way the experience is worth the price of admission.

Because we in EU have crapton of laws on imported goods (which sadly includes digitally distributed goods as well) that force higher prices on companies. There is nothing they can really do about it, and the ball is on local retailer part on how much they want to cut their own markup by providing "limited discounts".
When Witcher 2 was released guys from CDProjekt RED/GOG wanted to actually have "proper" price on GOG for EU, they were forced by court to "adjust it" however. That's why, after that, they decided to remove "Country check" from their website.
People posting about getting it cheaper from other places in the UK DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS POST AT ALL. Please read my initial post, first post page one.
I am aware that I can purchase the game for £39.99, that's not what is annoying me.
I am annoyed with the arogance that ArenaNet is selling the game on their website for £60.00.
Are we clear now? By posting that it can purchased elsewhere for cheaper is showing your ignorance and that you haven't read the initial posts.
The end game won't be there, and no i'm not spouting the "the whole thing is end game" stuff. It simply isn't there. Will that keep the hardcore raiders? Most likely not. They were never intended to be kept or even drawn in to this game.
Your points about lots of folks in the DE's and WvW is valid and will remain so until seen with the eyes of the masses.
None of that means anything to me, because i was a huge fan of the first game (aside from not being able to jump), and i know exactly what i'm getting from Anet. I'm not jaded or delusional even when it comes to the hypetrain that has surrounded this game. I have seen countless posters, on this site especially, fill a derigibal of hot air when it comes to this game simply because they want it to be The One. They want it to finally be the one that doesn't feel like it ripped them off or tricked them, because they last couple of years has been full of that.
Will it be any of that for them? Hell i have no idea, but it will be for me because i have been anticipating my return to Tyria for several years as i loved the GW1 for being just GW1. Not the fact that it was a Corpg, or i couldn't jump, or the heavy instancing. I loved the game, it's difficulty, and the fact that it took me somewhere else when i played it, unlike most titles i could name in today's market. The whole reason some of us play these games is because they take us somewhere else for just a little while. That's why i pre-ordered this game without a second thought. I know what i'm buying.
So what will be the 'end game' or what do you expect at max level? I would still think it to be fun.
I agree. I think people put too much faith in these games instead of just playing them for the content and fun that they are. SWTOR sucked. Yeah I said it. I also subbed it. And what I played of it (up to about lvl 28) was fun. Now its not and it goes away. On to the next one.
I pre-purchased because I thought it looked cool. Plus I could swim! DE, exploration, add in a plethora of other features I already forgot and I cant wait.
Well the game is priced the same as most new games here in the US... but I'm in the group of "I will never pay console prices for a PC game EVER". So, whoever has the deal that nets me this game for $49.99 is who I'll buy through. I don't care about the extras or beta... but I do want to play it.
If need be, I'll wait until the price drops after release.

Feel the need to point out that the usual price(rrp) on play.com is £49.99, just on sale at £39.99. Chances are it will go towards the rrp at time of release.
Am i wrong in thinking that the typical price for a pc game was £30(rift etc released at this price) and it's only in the past year or two that the prices have gone up?

Oh, right. You mean after you edited the original post.
And in your edit you got the prices wrong btw. So you might want to edit it again.
And if you don't think its worth the money, don't buy it. That's how a transaction works. I ask for money for my product. You decide whether it is worth it. If we can't come to an agreement, then the transaction of money for goods does not happen. You sound like you're part of the entitlement culture.

Different faction armors and weapons, not costumes sold in GW1's cash shop.
It'll be the same way here. The costumes sold in the cash shop are not going to be part of the endgame.

I find British people are often being forced to spend more money than Americans for any game. I can honestly say I think it's just Guild Wars 2 testing the waters to see if they can get away with it. When the game goes live and retailers get involved the price will drop heavily. It might not be worth the pre-purchase as you might be able to purchase it cheaper when it goes live. Kind of weird that a digital copy might just be more expensive than a boxed copy.
By putting it in British pounds people don't really see the problem. He is saying this game costs 90 American dollars.
Compare this to World of Warcraft in which you get a free month. This means Guild Wars 2 in Britain is supposed to be worth the same as World of Warcraft with six free months. Alternatively the normal version is worth the same as the collector's edition of SWTOR or regular SWTOR with four free months.
NCSoft are sharks. They have no problems milking out Europe and then dropping the price down after. They know full well that Europe is a first boom people.
To people who claim this game is worth that much and the game developers are spending millions of dollars making it and blah blah blah. You're full of it. You are absolutely full of it. No game is worth $90. You're not even buying theg ame. You are technically buying an account and the software is free. Unlike other games that you can trade or sell to friends MMOs are ones in which you don't actually own anything, you license or rent it.
Saying that it is so expensive because it is buy to play is absolutely bullshit. In North America the game costs $50-60. This is just NCSoft trynig to milk Europe for what they are worth.
Games are typically more expensive in Europe...and hell you want to have a REAL reason to complain, be an Aussie. Get everything 3 months later if you're lucky and pay the same prices as Euro or worse.
Not saying it's fair. It does suck that a Euro player is paying 33% more than I am for the same item. It's fairly common for games retailed overseas though, and I don't think Anet's doing anything super-sneaky. Just the crappy way things are. I think what should be done is find out why so many retailers have such difficulty with this, and change it.
Or unite the entire world under one common currency and.....OK I'm laughing too hard on that last one. But I wish.
What's up with these self proclaimed british people today? The price of games over here is between 29.99 and 60 pounds! The fact that you don't want to pay 49.99 is no one's beez wax, go sit on your couch and watch Eastenders or something! No need to tell us about your principles of money spending.

hmm... I really don't understand your math or how you're getting to this at all.
60 + 15 a month x 5 month = 80?
This is interesting....
Edit: Did the exchange rate properly, since the guy I was quoting didn't even use the right figures....

Dropped over $250 on the game today. I'm perfectly fine with that.

OP should probably edit his initial post again. It is not true that you only get one day head start if you do not order from Anet directly.

Yes, we are clear that you are mystifyingly annoyed at something that you can choose to not do.
What people are trying to relay to you though is that your rage is pointless and a waste of energy because there is an incredibly simple solution.
Honestly... getting annoyed over this moot point is extremely silly. I hope you do at some point understand that, though if not by now...

Hey guys let's remember not to personally attack anyone.
iPads cost $500, Androids cost 200+, but which would you rather have?...well Android cause it's Linux, but you get my point.
Isn't game in administration? If so may not be around when gw2 gets released.
Don't buy the game, simple as that. That'll be $100.00 please for the sound advice, next!
Archlinux ftw
