EQ used to suffer from rollback from time to time, I lost days of play, but surprisingly no one minded because THAT WAS A GREAT GAME!

Ladies and gentle, I present to you the reason why the MMO genre is the laughing stock of the industry.

Behold the trolling flamer. You know you would do better to actually read before reacting. Shame its people like you why its so hard to get a civil and mature dialog going when discussing a game or issue. Its true, its definately not right they are having these issues nor is it an excuse that pretty much every single other mmo has the same kind of (patching) issues, but one would think after so many years of mmo's people would be used ti this, its unfortunate but thats all it is.

edit : I noticed you consider Trion the best mmo company, you truely want to discuss their quality, especially around their release? Please do.

I would love to dicuss Trion considering Rifts population GREW after SWTOR was released

MMOs played: WoW, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars, Planetside, Global Agenda, Star Trek Online, RIFT, Everquest 2, Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, EvE online, APB
Best MMO Companies: Trion Worlds, ArenaNet, CCP
    Worst MMO Companies: Electronic Arts

Im glad it does. But you are avoiding the subject, want to discuss the patch quality considering thats what you are raging about, especially around release? I didnt forget.

    Especially when it concerned pvp.

This is is a true "Egg On Face" moment. The much-hyped patch finally arrives, only to be epically miss-implemented !

Seems like no MMO company can learn from the mistakes of their peers: DO NOT RELEASE A MAJOR PATCH ONE DAY BEFORE THE WEEKEND !!!! Because if anything goes wrong, you will face the rage of an entire playerbase who are off work and school and cannot play....

This is a textbook example of a bad implementation, lol. First the major patch goes in, but something somewhere is wrong. So a hasty "fix" is applied, which totally wrecks the Live servers, because it was not properly tested. Almost everyone in the IT industry has seen this movie at least once during their career image

It's funny, I work for a software firm and we semi-joke because every update we release that is supposed to fix one thing, usually breaks more things that were previously functioning. "One step forward, two steps back"

It's funny how this stuff happens in the business world so regularly and so often. Things are just accepted. You can EFF with our jobs, but don't EFF withour games.

Sure, tell me all about how they deleted guild banks, or broke their PvP.

Tell me about how Trion informed the masses that ranked WZs won't be in 1.2 LITERALLY 3 HOURS before launch so they could retain as many subs as possible.

Tell me about how a patch that fixes 1 bug cascaded into an 8+ hours emergency patch.

You would think in all that time, with all the new and better tech, with all the training, experience and lessons learned from other MMOs that someone would have figured out how to patch a game without breaking it.

Seriously its a tired old excuse. If the people in the Industry now are still making the same blunders as were made 12 years ago Id have to take a very close look at these "professionals"

*Actually I take this back to an extent. There have been a few Game Dev companies that havent botched their patches.

Cryptic was always really good with Coh/CoV, not sure how good Paragon is now. Turbine, as I recall during the time I played, never botched a LotRO patch. TRION hasnt botched one yet and they are very new and dont even have as close to a large budget and team as Bioware

    Tried: EQ2 - AC - EU - HZ - TR - MxO - TTO - WURM - SL - VG:SoH - PotBS - PS - AoC - WAR - DDO - SWTOR
    Played: UO - EQ1 - AO - DAoC - NC - CoH/CoV - SWG - WoW - EVE - AA - LotRO - DFO - STO - FE - MO - RIFT
    Playing: Skyrim

I think this game is getting that stacking effect now. Because 9 bad things happened before this, it makes this look 9 times as bad.

Even if that is the case, the incompetence is astounding.

First they make it clear to their playerbase how little they actually care about them (but oh how they love their wallets) and then they can't even implement a content patch without breaking the game?

    gg BioWare, gg

Yes, they made a mistake, its astounding. (its a big mistake ill admit, but whatever).

What i dont get is how you say they dont care about the playerbase but do care about their wallets? If that was even remotely true then they wouldnt have given a majority of subscribing players 1 free month play time. They wouldnt have given the people who had patching problems a few days ago 3 free days play time, and a bunch of other things.

How exactly are they making it clear to the playerbase they dont care about them? I'm not seeing it personally.

Okay, I'll spell it out for you because it really isn't that hard to understand:

If the new promotion was indeed intended to show their loyal playerbase their appreciation, BioWare would have awarded everyone who's been an active since release the free 30 days. However, they are just offering the free game time to their Lv50 players even if someone has spent countless hours leveling alts. This makes it quite clear that the promotion has nothing to do with appreciating their players and everything to do with keeping bored Lv50 players around.

While trying to draw in Lv50's with free game time is not a bad thing, pretending that you are giving them that time because they are "loyal" is spitting in the face of all their loyal customers who happen not to have a Lv50.

I have to admit that I kinda felt this way. I stopped actively playing any of my toons solo just to get them to level cap, but I have continued to play my Jedi Sage with a friend. He can only play two nights a week because of family life so we are just taking it slow and easy, enjoying the story a little at a time. Keeps me from getting burnt out on it too. But it does mean that I have been continuously subed since day 1 but because I we are enjoying the game at a slower pace we don't get any free game time. It would have been better to have just dropped the sub by now,  at least we could have gotten the free week.

    All die, so die well.

I couldn't agree more. I get fed up of the 'it's a new game' excuse and 'it will grow into something good' rubbish. So many games in the past to take from and build on, why are these new games still so bad?

This is a product of SWTOR rushing an unfinished product to market.  When your duty is to your stockholders and notthe  people who play your games, this is the problem.

Wouldn't it be great if at the end of the free month, they accidently charge all accounts twice?

Good lord you didnt pvp before hammerknell was released eh. Oh god lol, talk about a roalercoasterride, first sabotours, then the mage turret 1 shotting anyone and everything.  Im amused.

I admit when they finally implimented the Guildbank it was done decent, I dont recall any issues with it after it was added.

I agree it wasnt their best move to inform people so late about not adding the ranked WZ, then again judging by the issues they having now I can definately see it was better they didnt.

Oh ironic enough the 1.1 patch and 1.2 patch for rift had alot.. extra downtime, they did shape up though.

But to make things funnier, this is pretty much about how I felt about Bioware/EA/Lucasart , regardless of the fact I did find some entertainment in tht game.. for a while.

Can't say what happens in SWTOR, but I can tell you in Rift, I am consistently seeing SWTOR refugees comming back to Rift stating how bad it is and how much better Rift is.

Happens more than I can tell you.
