Playing: GW2 Waiting on: TESO Next Flop: Planetside 2 Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
Everquest had pvp servers, but their was a lot of issues with them, so I avoided them...So I have before...
I also roll on pvp servers in a lot of mmos, and I have come to the conclusion that railed themeparks and open world pvp do not mix well, it is like you are being funneled, and not enough options to play otherwise....So if a max level person is hanging out screwing with lower level people, some game worlds are so small, you only have 1-2 options of where to play...Where as in a big open world, that is not railed, people have to atleast hunt and work for it....Like when Vanguard had pvp, Ultima Online (pre trammel)...and the example for bad is Rift...Trion is a good company, but Rift is too small/railed imo.
I do prefer to have options in games, and losing PvP in Vanguard, it felt like I was missing part of the game, so I would say I may play it, but it would have to start that way.
Alot of us have been waiting for this for many years........Especially if the game is challenging enough that we'd actually have to group up again to take down some of the tougher content.

Interesting. Just out of curiosity, what was your first MMO?

As a Call of Duty vet, yeah. I would. CoD and other shooters are for PvP, since MMO PvP is terrible and cannot be balanced unless every class or job was the exact same along with the very same equipment and stats.
PvP destroys communities in MMORPGs and is better left without it. I am now awaiting FFXIV.
I like this guy.
Yes. IMO 2 AAA MMO's need to be made, EQ like and UO/DAOC like. Each have their niche and the core demographic of these games (durr pvp kiddies aside) is split pretty evenly ( though this poll shows a diff conclusion).
And for the pure PVE game that currently exsists... Vanguard >D
WTB non-buggy, new engined version of Vanguard as EQNEXT
Dueling is a consequence of interacting and occasional conflict... not pvping. I group all the time, for dungeons, instances, and just to hang with my guildies. In fact I met my hubby while we were both playing SWG pre-cu. PVP has been ruined by immature people who don't have a clue how to, ie. killing ppl much lower lvl than they are and going after ppl not interested in fighting them.
I would never play a pure PVE MMORPG. Not a chance. I like challenging games and fighting against artificial intelligence is never much of a challenge. Players react faster, better, and more effectively than mobs. I like MMORPG's for the concept of developing and enhancing a player killing machine. I also play non-mmorpg pvp games, mainly Mount and Blade: Warband. I never really got why people would prefer PVE aspects of a game. It always seems so dull. Questing? Kill 10 wolves, bleh. Raiding? Run around with a bunch of idiots and do some synchronized dancing to boss paterns. Yuck. PVE was better with the old school mmorpgs, back before games were designed for the cursed soloer. Back then you could find some challenge. Nowadays you simply don't.

This is actually why I no longer like to play PvP games.
I've found the mobs are actually more intellegent than almost all the other players in the game.
If no one has heard yet, Project Copernicus by Big Huge Games is a PVE centered mmo. The owner of the company has already came out and said time and again this mmo will have 0 PvP they will put all of there focus into PvE and making the game enjoyable around one thing. If you want a look at the world and what it will be based on then Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is what you should look at/play. The mmo will be based around 50+ years in the future beyond the events going on in that world. I can't wait to see what they will do with it though i think a 1 focus mmo is going to be the next step. Trying to balance the game for both pvp and pve while adding new content for both puts a HUGE strain on the devs. Blizzard alone has around 6 teams that do nothing but work on class balance and they can't even get it right.

There are a bunch of folks waiting on details on Copernicus. But Kurt said release is late 2012 (?) yet no info on any aspects of the game have been released other than the timeline. AFAIK. While i think Kurt has the right mentality to deliver a good game seeing nothing about the game makes people a bit... overly cautious.

LOL! While I say you're greatly exaggerating there is certainly a small number of players you meet that make you wonder how they even manage to dress themselves in the morning.

Im not a competitive person and I think pvp / competition brings out the worst in people. Also there is my signature =P
I could say the same with PvE crowd. PvE is competition as well which brings out the most rude assine attitudes out of people. To say that competition brings out the worst in PvPers is really ignorant when the same thing happens with the PvE crowd.
PvE'ers..........
Stuck up..check!
Elitiests ..check!

It's a two way street... you are just too ignorant to see it.

You are all too right as far as PVE'ers. While yes some PvP players from the console generation are social deviants, but in a proper system PVP actually is much more civil than PVE.
There is a reason why the Sleeper Kerafyrm was only killed in Sleepers Tomb on Rallos Zek in Everquest. Its that we got along because it was pvp. You had to act civil or your misdeeds would come back to you many times over. We didn't have massive issues with trains, kill stealing etc that the "PVE" servers had. We didn't have to have GM enforced rotations as we worked the system out among players and it worked really well.
I still find it funny that the PVE players on EQ don't consider Kill stealing, training etc a form of PVP that puts them below the PVP players in terms of civility. In my mind mutual respect based on the do unto others lest it be done onto you created a much more effective and enjoyable community.
I voted yes. I play games that I find fun. If a game didn't have PvP but I found it fun, I would play it. I don't mind PvP itself, I dislike the douchebags it attracts though. You now, all the "wolves" and the hardest of the hardcore donkies...

Not sure what games you've been playing, but after going through countless mmos through the years (most of which having both pve and pvp), I can say without a doubt that the pve crowd is typically always more friendly and respectful, compared to the pvp crowd.
Want an example? Go look at the Darktide forums for Asheron's call on the vnboards website. Then go look at any of the other Asheron's call pve server forums. I could give many other examples but that should suffice.
Funny thing is, I really like pvp and I always have - in fact, some of the most fun I've ever had was during pvp activity, but from my experience, the rudeness and the egomanics you have to deal with makes it something I'd rather not even bother with.
Naturally, everyone's mileage may vary, but those are my own observations.

Forum PVP isn't the same as ingame PVP. Besides the egomaniacs just have to be crushed... repeatedly to be broken down and rebuild with a normal ego.......... (problem is you can't do that on a forum)
I would gladly play a 100% PvE game as I haven't really touched PvP in any MMO.
Why?
Community. The case that I generally find is that people are less inclined to play together and are more interested in topping the damage charts or getting the most killing blows.
Comments
I would def play a 100% PvE MMO if it was similar to Asherons Call in that:
Did not have raids
took an extremely long time to level up (i.e. years)
offered amazing repeatable questing that rewarded gold, items and not was a form of leveling.
was sandbox in nature

No.
I enjoy PvE and World PvP.
Yes!
I don't like the PvP these days, or the mindset of most PvP'ers these days in mmo's ...
No I would not play a pure PvE carebear game. It becomes boring very fast. I like PvP to fall back on to enjoy playing.
The Secret World isn't going to have PvP at all so I won't even give it any attention at all.
MMORPG & FPS Gamer Veteran of seventeen years.
PvE = Pre defined NPC you have to fight, you know what actions they're going ot take, no challenge. Might aswell play a single player game.
PvP = More challenging, the opponent can do anything. You dont know what moves the opponent has planned out.
