TERA won't fail i'm pretty sure, in a sense of closing. I give it a couple months (even being a pre-order user) before it becomes a F2P cashshop game. Also please tell me you're not one of these GW2 fan boy's who thinks thats the revoultion and next era of best games, because it's definitely not.

Unless a market special anylist comes and came up with some VERY conviencing evidence that it will go F2P i'm not even going to remotely worry about it.

The next era of mmorpgs is the one of choice(and i'm not talking about sandboxes so you boxies can stfu). I Imagine a game where when i'm thinking about playing it, i don't use the terms " i wonder what class i want to play" "i wonder if that talent is any good" "so sick of grinding these mobs, and still no drop!"

It's actually not that hard to make. Just take games back to where you think of them more as your character or yourself inside the game than you do just a class you picked and molded and put a name to it. Seriously, just think of how often you think of your character with the word class in mind, especially in the times leading up to before the game is released when you're thinking about what to make. Your thoughts should be more like, i wonder what kind of character i want to be, not class.

Also, why does everything have to be about killing monsters and crafting?(stfu boxies, i warned you) Seriously why can't we just go around doing some completely random shit just for the sake of the fact that we can. Like if i wanted to paint some npcs house green and purple after learning that he hated those colors. He could then request someone else(say the next person he sees until someone accepts his request...or kills him) to repaint his house the way he wanted it to be. That'd be awesome.

And that was just an example but you can see where you could take it. I know next to nothing about game design so i dont know how hard/easy it would be to implement that kind of thing, but in my admittedly small knowledged mind, it doesn't seem all that hard if we can do half the stuff i see coming out. anyway,  i've derailed long enough.

Another sexually confused person commenting about the Elin race xD

If you sexualize those younger looking characters its YOUR problem, not the game´s .

Nice post, but you honestly sound like a person who "COULD" be interested in the correct sort of sandbox (and I do not mean any current ones). By that I just mean player freedom and the choice to play the game how you want. Thats exactly what I want too. Even the current so called sandbox games (MO for example) are limited on the choices you can make. For instance in MO you have a certain amount of skill points and are restricted subliminally to a class like system thats sort of grey. I too would enjoy a game like you described with the concept of it being a game. Now days "games" are developed for tireless grinds before you can truly enjoy the game. But... what developers lack to understand is that games (at least to me) were designed for enjoyment and pleasure.

TERA is pretty fun in the sense of something to play until the next thing comes out. I pre-ordered it as it's the only game of it's kind currently coming out with the free aim system and dodging. Again, dont you turds say GW2 as the dodge is very limited and you cannot be nearly as agile as you can in TERA.

Question 1: i guess it works in a none trinity system but honestly even than most mmorpgs have classes to give you a define roll. If you a all mighty god like charater that can do w/e the fuck he/she wants well the game loss its fun because everyone is so op.

Question 2: Make talentless game and you kill customization, people will complain lack of customization to seperate their character from others. And people will alway slook for the best "build" even if there isn't one.

Question 3: That really depends on the person, personally i think drop should be rare and somehting you work for. However i understand farming it with 0.000001% drop rate is retarded. But handing out drop like candy isn't good either, because make it seem worthless if you make it too easy to get. I think Tera so far has a good drop rate speically with the boost in drop rate in dungeons.

It's actually not that hard to make. Just take games back to where you think of them more as your character or yourself inside the game than you do just a class you picked and molded and put a name to it.      I guess that has more to do with class balance issue, for me i want to be the best tank obviously i'm not going to play a freaken cloth with that mind set. However i think the issue your talking about is like you want to be best let say range dps. But like archer is best dps but you like mages more, but to be best dps you have to play archer. You want it if you want to be something, you shouldn't be restricted by class? (ofc beside the obivious reason like you can't expect to tank on a dps class or heal on a tank class)

Also, why does everything have to be about killing monsters and crafting?(stfu boxies, i warned you) Seriously why can't we just go around doing some completely random shit just for the sake of the fact that we can.      Well for one if 100 people try to do the quest at once you can imaging how retarded its going to turn out, not to say when there are thousands of players that have to do the same quest. Also people always complain about things not have a purpose -.- Like Tera's OWPVP, you do it coz you like pvp and you get people bitching about no rewards =

I'm curious care to point out a single f2p game thats on lvl with Terea combat/graphic/dungeon? Because i play tons of f2p games before Tera (my first P2P) and i can't find a single one. And before you answer, DN/C9/Vindictus all loss solo coz open world > instance based. (not to metion combat to me in Tera is so much better) Also RaiderZ while good doesn't remotely come close to Tera in term of graphic and polishness. The game graphic is like on lvl with mabinogi and combat need LOTS of work with how choppy it is, it was really painful to play. Also the fact its PvE only? (not sure) and will have one of the most broken over power p2w cash shop (because thats what perfect world does)

This is how I felt about it.  Spent hours on end downloading it and patching it.  Played it this week end and some last night. I just removed it from my computer (and found out it left the game directory all it did was remove the registry values you still have to delete it from your hard drive).  This game is only going to appeal to a certain few folks for a short time and go free to play. I could write pages about how I disliked the combat but that's already been covered over and over. I could write pages about how I did not like certain race's that has also been beaten to death already.  If you want pvp you mights as well find another game. This game is just not for me.

Oh well so much for the current crop of games coming out, being over hyped and nothing but junk.

What I don't understand is the idea that because I don't like something that means no one else will. Out of hundreds of thousands of people that will play an MMO, all of whom could be looking for different experiences, can i really say my opinion represents all of them? Sure I can say it but it doesn't really make sense.

To the OP and some of the other comments I've seen (not all mind you): Battlegrounds were already there in K-TERA, EME took them out because they didn't think they were good enough. Plus, with the changes OWPvP it didn't make sense to give a rewards system to instanced PvP or keep PvP "inside the house". The public asked that it not be there as well because they like OWPvP.

Once they Improve the BGs I hope they implement them to keep OWPvP fans happy or not add them at all. The greatest advantage will come to the PvE and RP servers to add some balance for those that don't like OWPvP.

As far as rewards for PvP there are some already in a way: Guild level rewards. Nice items based upon your guild's level and since the level's deteriorate you constantly need to be doing activites. One is kill quests and named mobs are the higher quests from my understanding. Last time I checked they were already a focus of major PvP :)

I think a rewards system for PvP in general is great, just don't offer rewards that up PvP stats. It sounds great but over time creates a gap between old and new players, blocking out a portion of "new meat". I think a good solution would be an intricate title ranking system and seperate armor sets. The same stats as PvE gear but looks different as a stays symbol. Just a thought. At that point your points are going toward a title system and as you gain ranks new gear becomes available for purchase.

Just not worth my time anymore.

Some people don't seem to have issue with the grind so it's probably not that.

    But why will it fail?

Did you see the Ilum posts in swtor and what a shitstorm that turned out to be?. Bioware then basically said, Ok Ilum didn't work, so we're going to add in a new battleground. Thats pvp sorted.

Do you all remember wow vanilla with tauren mill figting? HUge fights, great fun for the first week or so. But when you actually wanted to get something done,  not so fun then. Or daoc mordred servers, how quickly those died out. Shadowbane... RIFT! the list goes on.

Just because you like Battle grounds, with PvP rewards, does not mean that everyone else does.  In fact, I personally could give two rats tails about rewards, and I despise Battle Grounds.   For me, Open World PvP is the most fun.  Why?  Just because it's FUN!  Nothing more.  Just plain old FUN!

Somewhere along the way people have been herded into the "Elitest" mode, and all they want is a piece of "Gear" to go flaunting around for all their so-called "Hard Work".  I guess that is what they consider to be fun.

I played the Tera Beta and I liked it.   It looks very good.   I liked the combat system, it's about time the Tab Target took a hike, and people learned how to play a game with out macro's running around spamming one button with all their skills in a macro.  I can see where someone that likes  to play that way, might not like Tera.

Yes, the game probabaly will go F2P.  I don't doubt that.  I perfer that it don't, but it probably will.  In which case I'll look for another game when it does.   Now that, will be what loses customers.  The F2P.   It still won't FAIL, as you have so put it.   There are lots of people that love to whip out their credit cards and buy in-game stuff from a cash shop.  They do it every day...in fact someone is probably doing it right now.

They all have their targets set on GW2, like it's the next best thing since sliced bread.  Because they "Only have to buy the game, then no sub fee"...hahaha!

What they are not telling you...is there is also a Cash Shop.  Get out your credit cards...it's basically a F2P game you have to "BUY" first.

Hate to quote the OP after 15 pages of trolling and off topic flaming but...

ilum failed due to its lag.  It was unplayable for most.  It was the only interesting part of SWTOR pvp.  Adding a new warzone wasnt pvp sorted...it was pvp failed.  People got sick of queueing for warzones over and over again. The only interesting pvp was huttball since it was CTF but with passing...people hated it because it required thoght and teamwork and they would lose the match when just farming kills.

If people want pvp farming in fair matches with no pve grinding or levels i just dont understand why people dont play FPS/TPS games.  Its everything people like this want, instead of saying this mmorpg fails because it does FPS/TPS wrong is a fail on your part.  Your doing mmorpg wrong.

This game may or may not fail, an my definition of failing is shutting now, while i understand most claim fail when the game has less than 15min subs.

My guess is that this game is "suspiciously" like L3 will be.  L3 will have a larger following, most will play that game over this when it comes out.  This is run by a upstart, which means theres a higher chance of them going BK and shutting down...most likely what will happen is a sellout to a F2P company.

I however do like the closed minded approach to the theory that anything other than battlegound pvp is fail.  Its interesting.  Someone here screaming for more of the same.  Again, i think you should pick up a good FPS.  Theres no monthly sub, no boring pve to get in the way of your endgame pvp queues and it does so in a fair enviroment...rather than flaming upstart mmorpgs for trying something that isnt what you saw in wow.

  • TeekayTeekay Member Posts: 94

Wow, this post is still going...

Ok, I did not say that battlegrounds were the way to go. I see NO mention of that in my post, what i referred to was Bioware believing that just adding another shitty bg would fix pvp in swtor instead of workin on Ilum.

Up until a year ago i was on/off playing daoc, and not a single pvp system compares to it, not even close. That's what i'm aiming at when I say open pvp with a purpose. That was in from day 1.

When a game released with plans for structured pvp 'sometime in the future' i'm pretty damned dubious, because it usually means a loooong way away (if ever).

Every single time i've put the statement to a games forum that pvp with no purpose is just a pointless grind, it's the horrible carrot on a stick model which mmos desperately need to get away from. Tera is like the ultimate carrot on a stick game for both pve and pvp.

Also each time i've said it I always see 'i just pvp to enjoy it!!' ,and each time that game has bombed. (HI2U Rift) .  Even FPS games realised this.

I've been looking for an mmo for over a year or more..

I've tried everything. I've posted numerous times on game hunts. TERA has me sucked in. I played 2 characters up to level 20 during beta.. I loved it.. there's a few things I would adjust..

campfire buff times need to be faster

and maybe give some more reason for the world pvp (drop gold/items/tokens?)

and of course fix the chat bug.. but other than that, they've made a really nice game that will keep me from ever having to play WoW ever again.

The quests aren't anything new, but I haven't felt bored by them due to the combat system being what it is.

The idea of an mmo is to disguise those mundane boring tasks as something else.. thats what the combat system does.

Damn those pigs are hard to kill..

Will it be the next coming of WoW? No... and I don't want it to be.. but I think it appeals to a large enough of a player base to sustain for a while. I'm really hard to please and its kept me entertained. GVG is one of the greatest features ever. I haven't even thought about GW2.

I wonder when people will actually PvP before making those claims.

Just because there is no "reward" doesn't mean game isn't based on PvP. If you bother to pvp at all you notice how increbility balanced all the classes are (beside sorcs coz they missing ALL their skills right now) The combat shines so well in pvp, and i don't think there is many games out there where a healer can kill a tank (on equal lvl and gear) based on pure skills.

Really? This is what gives people who are fans of a game a bad rep. Right away the OP says nothing about Guild Wars 2, yet you have to bring it up still, and insult people who are excited for that game. Saw it in your first post, you don't like Guild Wars 2 as much as the OP doesn't like Tera, but come on, calling people "turds"? That just brings down a group of people due to an idiotic statement.

I dont think anyone is saying noone else will, I think people are saying it will have limited appeal.

I see lots of comments like 'I havent had this much fun since Lineage 2'.  If this games greatest appeal is to fins of western flops like L2, well there is one sign that it wont do so well.

While most people are looking to big improvements in  things such as boring quest hubs, endgame gear grinds, interesting character customization, and choice in general, TERA's big difference is an 'action' combat system, which is something that isnt really in big demand to the general western MMORPG audience (who is a lot older than the eastern one)

TERA may be a good game at what it does, but what it does isnt what most MMORPG players in the west are looking for.

i managed to get to 16 before the beta end, due to trying out the other classes.

i found the game quite fun, but it is harder for me these days to commit 50-60 bucks to a game, plus sub.  i don't see myself buying this one for a while.

i liked some of the classes, sorc, zerk, mystic.  rather fun and refreshing takes on the classes and the fights felt rather nice after the static feeling of most other games, though i wish the combat was more like victious, at least in how much movement you had.   it just didn't seem as active combat as the hype sugested.

oh well though, it still was quite fun, and the combat was pretty smooth once you figured out how to dodge/bock.  it was nice having to pay attention to the fight, to get a good advantage.

if i could afford it i would play it, i really did have fun.  i loved the npcs in boss fights, it made it feel more alive.  playing the mystic at the start, you fight the bam and can heal the npcs fighting it now that was pretty nifty

if i do get the game, i will be glad of one thing, all the bloody gw2 fanboys will be gone, and maybe the stupidity in area chat will die down a bit.  i don't know how many people i blocked so i didn't have to read about how tera sucked and gw2 was the second coming of jesus.  oh and the whining about the lolis of course.

yeah yeah, i'm not a big fan either but they are in the game, deal with it.
