Interesting how people make decisions about games that arnt even out yet.   a 2 hour beta or a 6 minute video means something only to the shallow impressionable people.

Diablo became popular because of battlenet, server side storage, pvp and randomisation.   Diablo 3 will be popular for those same reasons + Real money auction.

It does not matter an ounce what the gameplay is like, the graphics, how big it is, how customisable....  show me a game with a real money auction and a battlenet 2.0 styled infrastructure backed by the biggest most succesfull game studio in history... then I might consider playing one of these 'wannabees'

Your posts just get stranger and stranger. Aside from contradicting yourself as I showed above, now you're saying gameplay, graphics, size of the game, and customization options don't matter? Seriously?? lol I don't even know how to respond to that...

I prefer to have options :)

PoE & Grim Dawn both seem appealing additions to the Hack & Slash genre. Same goes for some other games.

If there would only be Diablo 3 to content us with, this niche would be in bad shape.

Wauw... It's utterly funny to see how many experts there allready are on the subject of this game just by looking at less than 5min worth of alpha gameplay.

I for one think Grim Dawn looks truely exciting but to be honest all your facts about HUGE maps and so forthare just rediciolus. Come on... You know absolutely nothing of this game except what that developer told you and thoes few frames of gameplay.

I share your excitement but to be honest if you have this firm oppinion about it now you are setting yourself up for some major disapointment. Its hype like this that creates so many haters.

If i had been screaming about D3's genius for years im sure i would be disapointed now but i take it for what it is... simple gameplay fun. All i need at this point.

At some point your gonna be as tired as me at waiting on the perfect game that hasnt been release yet but the developers keeps promissing. Gras aint allways greener on the other side... Just try and be contempt with whats here now. (easier said than done.. Not sure i have learned this yet or i would be skimming these forums day in and out:P)

I'm actually downloading the TQ demo from Steam while signing up for the beta of PoE. I'll be keeping an eye on Grim Dawn too. The thing is I don't typically like other arpgs but Diablo 3 felt different to me and I loved it. I have some time before D3 comes out anyway so I'll get to try these other arpgs out. I think I'm already sold on D3 though. I must've dumped a good 15-20+ hours in that game counting Friday-Monday with at least half a dozen playthroughs after maxing out my character. Had a lot of fun with it so May 15th can't come too soon. image

If you get TQ get immortal throne and play from the expansion not the original.

And yes,  a real money auction kinda means that it doesnt really matter what the game is like.  Earning a living from playing a game is every gamers dream.

And if you dont know how to respond to a post, I reccomend leaving it to people who can ;)

I tried PoE too. And gameplay was freaking amazing, it reminds me more of diablo2 than d3 itself :P But yea, first time i hear about Grim dawn yet, so cant comment on that one.

    Torchlight 2

Drakensang Online, Free to play and is browser based and looks rather good for such a game.. Released :)

They are also worthy to mention..

From playing the beta of Diablo 3 , all I can see is that D3 not has anything special with it, I guess it will be fun, but so will these games if you like the genre..

Back when D2 was king, there was not much competition, but now there is..Blizzard is a overhyped company that really doesnt deserve all their credit their getting..

Well from playing D3 beta over the weekend... and picking up POE last night i can say i think POE is a lot better and feels and a lot more like the old D3 games... and best of all no cartoon graphics.. graphics are nice grtty :)

Not saying D3 is a bad game i did enjoy it over the weekend bu when you see games like POE that are f2p you start to think why the hell am i paying blizzard £45 to pre-order when there are better games in development..

I will probally pick D3 up still but wont be pre-ordering..

If the game is anything like Titan Quest, you can't compaire it to Diablo 3. 2 different types of games. I was not a fan of Titan Quest so this does not interest me

Lets be honest,   the "gameplay"  on all these kind of games are very similar.

Its a hack n slash loot dropper,  you go in you kill thousands of mobs as quick as possible and loot.

The only reason you continue is to get that Rare drop,   or to complete an armor 'set' or out-dps your mates on the ladders.

so saying that the 'gameplay' is 'better' in one game to the next is nonsense which I just ignore.  everything else about these games can be different, but if its one thing which remains absolutly identical is the gameplay.

I can't believe I haven't heard about Titan Quest until now. I'm playing the demo and already pretty impressed. I might even get lucky and get it during another steam sale. They haven't had 50%-75% off THQ titles in awhile. Thanks for the recommendation guys, good call. image

There is a pack on there with Immortal Throne for only £9.99   you wont save much.

well worth it!    I've been playing it to get in the mood for Diablo :3

The only thing I'd say about TQ is that the maps are static, not random like Diablo... but in fairness the maps are huge, took me two weeks of solid playing to get through IT

Graphics in POE are so generic, bland and boring, there is no soul or passion in them, any one can knock out graphics like that, takes much more time and effort to create graphic like D3. Just my opinion.

As to PoE game play, I have not played it but all the vids I have seen has shown slow gameplay, where is the A in this ARPG?  D3 on the other hand has you mashing up packs of 10+ mobs at a time and the health globe system means you can go from one pack to the next without a pause.  But hey just my opinion again.

    Oh and D3 £33 on amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Diablo-III-PC-Mac-DVD/dp/B0030DH9R6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335366657&sr=8-1

Yeah, I realized that was one of the only pitfalls (static maps). The good thing is I have a terrible memory so static/random doesn't matter as much. It all looks like something new anyway. lol Otherwise it's a pretty good game especially for being released back in 2006. Been playing for the past couple hours.

and Grim Dawn is made by a very small dev studio that hasnt even raised the funds to produce the game..... let alone support it for the next 10 years like Blizzard have with D2.

There's only room in my life for ONE hack n slash, and I want to be able to sink as much time as I want into my mmo's and come back to my hack n slash knowing that the devs havnt gone bust lol

Seriously, the whole world has been waiting for d3 for 10 years, its a VERY VERY bad time for these other hack n slash's to be released,  they are going to suffer big time.

Yeah, I forget if I responded or not to another one of your posts about that but I completely agree. I checked out Grim Dawn earlier this morning but they obviously have a long way to go still. I hope they succeed. I just don't have the confidence in it that would lead me to preordering and investing in the project. I'm usually not even a fan of this genre so I'm still a little weary of buying any arpg much less one by a new development studio fighting for funding and still pulling it's core team together. It looks pretty cool so far though. I'll check on it again when I hear it has everything they need to complete it and set a launch window.

    uh no scott.

that's why games like titan's quest had at best a cult following, why dungeon seige 3 was crap, why sacred 2 was bad, etc etc.  They all had clunky gameplay.  You have to feel like you are in control of exactly when and what you attack.  You have to feel mobile, your abilities need to fire the first time you hit them, not the second and third as you mash in frustration.

    sad

  • Doesn't exactly look good. Major downside is the horrid animations, just like PoE. That being said, it's still early in the game's development. It could improve.

Yay!  Glad you like it!  It was one of my more favorite ARPGs (besides D2) at the time, probably because of the Greek Mythology tie-in.

It's actually aged very well, too.

I see Grim Dawn as more of an homage to Diablo 3, mainly because I saw Titan Quest as an homage to Diablo 2.  TQ took elements of D2, made it their own game and it was fun to play.

If it's the same guys, it'll probably be the same situation; similar elements, new setting, fun to play.
