Still rather low end, a Nvidia GT560M is preferable. 550 is the lowest I can recommend.

The thing is that a good gaming laptop is really expensive and will cost you about twice the price a desktoop with the same specs. Never buy a laptop unless you must because you need to be able to take it while you travel if you are a gamer. And even then a really cheap laptop paired up with a good desktop will be cheaper than a gaming laptop.

The new 600 series has arived and i would go for a 650m if you can afford that

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I agree laptops are last resort for gaming..   and hard to tell you what vid card you should get without knowing your budget....

but if you are going to get such a low end vid card then i would say save up longer. take on a 2nd job

Plus if you get a laptop thats good enough for gaming its likely to be heavy as hell.  If you do make sure you get a carry bag with wheels like luggage.

Just to try it, I ran the BWE on my Alienware M11X and it has a GeForce 355M. I had to set it at mid range graphics and turn off shadows but it ran pretty well. Possibly when Anet gets the graphics optimized I might be able to turn it up a notch.

Quizzical might have more hope for you, but like others have said it is possibly borderline if you are going to use it as your main computer for GW2!  WvWvW might eat it and spit it out! :)

edit: from recent posts Loke666 knows a lot about computers also...not just Quizzical. :)

I actually have a http://www.amazon.com/A53SV-EH71-15-6-Inch-Versatile-Entertainment-Laptop/dp/B005UUSI1S/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1336338790&sr=8-3-fkmr1 and I ran maxed graphics during BWE with no lag at all so I think you should be fine. I even went into WvW with no fps drops or graphical problems during those huge fights. I was also playing on a 19 inch moniter i hooked up to it.

my gf's $900 Asus laptop ran GW2 great on medium-high settings.

this was with a 540m. apparently it can run BF3 well on medium. paying anything more for a laptop is a waste imo, as you can build a much better pc for that price.

I ran BWE on a 540m. Worked like a charm. Highest settings everywhere except in wvw where I turned I down one notch. The cpu is an i7 2.6ghz.

Btw, my laptop was an Asus a53sv like above. Only played on the 15'' screen though. But still.

Its realy cheap to make desktop PCs now if you know how to put them together. Just made a top of the line Desktop for under $1500

I'm sure Quiz will pop in at some point but until that time you might want to consider some of the new integrated graphics option of current CPUs.  This will not only save on power and heat but in almost all cases price to performance cost.  Check out this as just one example

Honestly I wouldnt decide anything untill Quiz sees the post. He/she knows thier stuff. I would say Lok is about spot on though.

Just ignore everyone trying to tell you to build a regular PC. Some people just cant seem to understand people like or want laptops. The biggest thing is just being 100% sure to get what YOU want and can afford.

Reccommendations right now is being a bit silly, because the beta's we've tried did not utilize the GPU at all. It's all CPU bound. So we don't know about which GPUs will do what.

I too would like a laptop (have a main gaming rig at home) but I would need a portable one. Anything above 13'' is too cumbersome bulky and heavy to carry around all day. And that's the point of a laptop if you use it at work/school? On the bright sight - smaller screen = smaller NATIVE resolution = less intensity on the graphics. So obviously a 650 will do better on a 13'' with 1400x1600 than a  15'' with 1920x1080!

Some people don't mind lowering resolution in-game but that too is taxing due to scaling. TBF tho, the windows scaling has gotten pretty decent over the years.

    Anyways..

The most powerful mobile laptops right now are; Sony Vaio SA (6630m) and Acer 3840 (540m) . Sony is much higher quality, and better screen, keyboard (backlit), and all that, but the Acer is dirt cheap and made from cheap materials.

Clevo also announced a crazy powerful little 11,6'' Gaming notebook, now that the Alienware M11x is being discontinued; http://ultrabooknews.com/2012/04/28/clevo-w110er-brings-gaming-to-11-6-ultrabook-alternative/

I completely disagree with this. Not only are laptops lighter now but you can get some pretty good gaming laptops that dont weigh all that much. Hell I have a beast. 18inch laptop that weighs just over 12lbs and I'm find with a regular bag.  I triple stitched it myself for obvious reasons but you dont need a giant bag.

been playing games on a laptop for 7 years now..i find it alot nicer then my desktop tbh...also the fact that pc's always are better doesnt rlly apply. Unless you want to render 3 hd movies and play an heavy game at the same time..a good laptop is more then fine

I used my MSI gx740 (i5 450m, ati 5870m, 8GB RAM) for beta weekends and had acceptable (non-stuttering) performance on max settings with shadows..

Granted, I got below 10FPS when there was lot of people+particles on screen, but that's not a surprise..

I can only expect the perfomance to go up, as Anet gets the game more optimized for GPUs, so I'm not considering new hardware.

    Hope this helps.
