I loved age of conn at launch, then they decimated it like swg did by destroying the original combat eb and flow. I love the idea of this game and probably won't be able to play during beta weekend. Of course they'll never be able to balance the game and I hope they never do, I'm sick of developers nerfing things, why not try the more difficult and exciting route of bringing the other specs up to par instead of damaging supposed overpowered classes? It might take more effort and finesse but it's certainly a more exciting prospect for players.

What's dampening my entheusiasm for SW is the lack of DETAILED faction vs faction conflict information. As it appears now...to even have a chance to enjoy the persistent world conflict you may have to have pretty high skill levels. There is no word that you will have max hit points like GW2 in the Mysts.

I play pve to get to faction vs faction conflict.GW2 makes that easy.....level 2 and you can go. SW...??

They will do a buff ala what they have in GW2. I don't know the details of it though. You can use PvP to level up in TSW as well, getting gear and tokens. You will probably be pretty bad to start with, but that's to be expected when you don't even have the 7+7 active and passives.

That was nice of you to give him your permission. I'm sure that is a load off his mind. Whew.

Not exactly sure why you would care what the OPs reasons were to be honest. Nothiing about his posts says anything but hater and/or troll. Do you know one of them on these forums that actually tells 100% truth? Because I don't. And if you are somehow expecting a realistic, turthful, well thought out explination of a games finer points, good or bad, from a hater/troll...I would think you to be very naive.

And btw... I've had more fun in any niche-MMO so far then in the big titles, even if they had bugs and a rocky release.

Hopefully the game will attract just enough players to make it profitable and not too many of those who jump ship 3 month after release anyways once the next best MMOs sets sail.

250k subscriptions is all TSW needs imho.

The thing is, people are going to be going into this game for the wrong reasons. Regardless of whether it has pvp or whether the animations aren't "up to snuff" the game is about the lore, metagame, puzzles, etc.

From my experience with the game, it's the atmosphere and lore that are the intriguing parts of the game. Anyone not recognizing this and going into the game with a fine tooth comb so they can see if the textures are up to snuff or that the pvp is "meaningful" is going to be HIGHLY dissapointed.

Having said that, after playing it at PAX I can say that the game was buggy. Nothing major but enough for me to realize that Funcom just aren't polished developers.

How can anyone with any mmorpg experience think this game would be worth buying??? The only feature of this game even worth talking about is the lore which was interesting (for about 15 minutes) and clearly inspired by the Cthulhu Mythos which gave way to some early hype intrigue. Otherwise this game could not be more generic and uninspiring with about as much depth as Digimon Online.

Stop buying this garbage so mmo developers stop mass producing this nonsense.

My big concern isn't Funcom actually, but rather the limitations on the lore making too "small" of a game to be really interesting in the long term.  Scope (possibly) just too limited, in other words.

A lot of people seem to bank all of their expectations on one $50-60 game puchase being entertaining for life.  In most (all?) cases, it's a hopeless hope.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

So the entire planets myths, monsters, horror stories too small? I think you might be slightly wrong there…

The weekend beta is not under NDA but the general beta is. Any  beta info not from the weekend (or posting it early) we come across will be removed until then.

So asking posters to give details won't fly just yet. Patience, guys.

I like to read everyone's opinions from the haters to the fanboys. It's called being objective. You should try it some time.

Not everyone around hear spouts garbage. Should pay better attention to posters if that is what you really think.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

This thread is kind of funny. Why are most of the people here treating a closed beta as a final product? From what I recall, when anyone said anything bad about the last Guild Wars 2 beta, like a lot of people said that it was still in beta and that it was ok :P. Ah people with double standards :P.  Also, as for the animations this is what the developers said, "Making animations for over 500 abilities is quite the task, therefore we have to use some placeholder animations on some of the abilities when showing a game still in production. We are working on it, and it will be amazing". I think it's too early to judge this game, and apparently 90% of the people from the older betas are going to be playing the game after launch according to some research they have done, there is a video where they talk about it.

My past experience with Funcom, as well as the horrid gameplay videos I've seen for TSW are keeping me away from this one for now. I look forward to hearing how the game is coming along after this weekend. The fact that they are only letting you into one faction a month from release is just one of many red flags to come I'm guessing.

Well, the game is out in what, 5 weeks? That's not a lot of time to make adjustments. What you are seeing in this BWE will probably be quite close to the release product.

    "Loading screens" are not "instances".
Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.

    lol...wait.

So basically what you are saying is. If the story is fine, the gameplay doesnt matter?

Sorry, but if a game has PvP, it needs to have meaning. If a game is lacking in "enter catagory" im going to want to know. If a games crafting sucks, I am going to want to know.

You know, SWTOR has a great story...freaking FANTASTIC story...the game itself still has a massive blackhole and plays like a single player game online...Age of Conan has a rich detailed story and lore...the game still sucked.

But you were right in the end. Anyone looking at the details of the game are going to be highly dissapointed.

umm, I'm a huge gw2 fanboi, but Anet has never, ever, announced a release date. That June 26 date is from gamestop. Anet today again said that there is no release date after amazon's german site said that they had a september 28 release date.

There is no release date for GW2.

You guys do realize that they do indeed have different builds of the client that the internal testers are testing right? For all we know they might be putting the finishing touches on the actual client that will be released for launch. I bet the closed beta they have going on right now is mostly for stress testing, and the weekend beta testing is just for marketing purposes.

This argument always cracks me up.  I've heard this same argument/excuse about every MMO a month out from launch.  There is never a miracle patch.  They aren't going to fix major bugs in the next 6 weeks that they couldn't iron out over the last 6 months.  I'm sure the regular CB build is a build or two ahead of what the weekenders will see this week, but it's still not going to be a whole lot different than what is released on June 19th.

Yet from what I remembered, the ongoing closed beta build for AoC was totally different from the one they finally released. For one, it had DX10 and the release build only had DirectX9. But, it doesn't really matter anyways, everyone has their own tastes and I am sure there is always going to be people who is going to like TSW. Even the OP is a SWTOR fan himself :P.

I guess you haven't been in enough betas.  I've been in quite a few MMO betas where this exact thing happened - some kind of massive "miracle" patch that addressed many major issues a month (sometimes a week!) before launch.

One I can remember very clearly was TR, two months from launch the game was bug-riddled, laggy and nearly unplayble.  About 2-3 weeks before launch - BOOM - massive patch that fixed majority of bugs, lag and even added new features.  Result?  Very stable and polished launch.  Same thing with Rift - although Rift was a lot more polished - there was a few MASSIVE patches that addressed many of the major concerns and then launch went very smoothly.   The same thing has happened in quite a few betas in my experience.  The only thing that's impossible to fix is bad game design - that is why i have virtually no hope for TOR - it may be a nearly flawless and polished product, but the base design precludes it from ever being improved into a game that's actually worthwhile unless a total overhaul of the game is done.

Still, this means nothing for TSW.   For every game that HAD a miracle patch, there were games that didn't and launched broken.  Will just have to wait and see.
