I've seen a few posts in AO's forums about this. That bug is something related to an AMD chip set. There seems to be no solution as of yet to correct it besides going Intel.

I have AMD and the game works fine. Maybe its a bad install.

Not all AMD chipsets are the same, so it is possible that AO (esp being an older title) may not work on the OP's card.

You may not recall this but back when MMORPG's were new, ( I recall this from Lineage 1 and DAOC) they actually only supported specific video cards and I went out and bought one of them in order to play both titles. (Never got EQ1 to work on my card, it was unsuipported)

Hardware isn't nearly so finicky these days, but fact is even now there is a certain percentage of computers that a title just won't run on due to a number of hardware/software driver combinations.

Id reccoment a Voodoo3 2000 PCI, should be ralativly cheap these days.  According to an archived article on the card you would *theoretically* be able to get a whopping 19 FPS playing quake 3 on 16 bit mode. So its versatile.

With that said, if i remember correctly, the game only uses video memory and like one core.  Its poorly omtimized for modern systems on a game engin that was made in the 90s.  This is the reason for their 20 year goal of upgrading the game engin.
