GW2 prepurchase already refunded by my CC for this exact reason - NCSoft not responding , not providing a ship date , and me listing reasons why it appears the software doesn't meet expectations , was all it took for CC company to agree and refund money.
I don't think NCSoft or ArenaNet will be very happy with that, and in all likelihood you will lose access to all their games for life. Regarding the Annual Pass for World of Warcraft, if you ever requested a chargeback to Blizzard, you were unable to sign up for it. Chargebacks cost these companies quite a bit of money, time, and grief. My opinion of you is that you are a chronic complaintant. This opinion probably correlates well with what NCSoft and ArenaNet think of you, and they will probably not want to do business with you again. In the end, you cost them money, and are therefore not valuable as a current or future customer.
Who gives a fuck what NCSoft or ArenaNet thinks about it? Thats not anybodys concern. If he didn't like what they made then that's his perogative as a consumer and should not be punished for it.
Again they work for us, not the other way around. They should be BEGGING him to come back and try again.
Filing a fraudulent chargeback based on nothing more than buyer's remose is just that: fraudulent.
It's not a hard concept to grasp sparky.
? Fraudulent ?
NCSoft didn't respond to my customer support request for over a week , still didnt. End of case for any CC company. Don't respond to the customer at all who requested a contact witih you makes it auto lose for the company to any CC company. Nothing fraudulent about it.
In TSW case my preorder is with Amazon Prime, who will gleefully cancel the order for me and never charge a dime , Amazon customer support is something most mmorpg companies would do well to be trained by. They call/email/check on your satisfaction with any request for customer support, I've had managers from Amazon over the years call me to verify everything is good with an issue etc.
Anyway , NCSoft didnt respond to my request , and didnt respond to my CC companies request , their arrogance earned them a chargeback , their fault , not mine.
If you take part in a Beta Weekend, which is part of the content availible for you due to pre-order, you should not be able to get a refund and Funcom said they would not be giving refunds after the launch of the first Beta Weekend. You used part of what you paid for. That's like watching a DVD once and then trying to return it open when you didn't like the movie.

Exactly. Too many people don't like to take repsonsibility for their own stupid actions and look for a way to be bailed out. Just creates more fees for companies and consumers. People that do this aren't excercising their consumer rights, they're stealing. The risks for these types of pre-order deals is well known and clearly stated. I could see this type of recourse if the game isn't playable at release, but everyone knows beta releases will have issues.
People should stop pre ordering games like they are a box of cookies without any tought. Gw2 prepurchasing is the way to go for MMO companies in the future. It will make people think trice before preordering
I agree 100%. People should not be able to get their money back unless the game developers is unable to provide the product at all. Glitches, bugs, poor gameplay, general feeling of unhappiness should not be an acceptable reason for refund.
Your being sarcastic I hope.
THAT is EXACTLY the reason why you would want a refund. WTF.
Again I REALLY hope you are being sarcastic.
Thing is poor gameplay and general feeling of unhappines is very subjective and can be extended to ANY purcharse (game or not) anytime and always.
So you say I can go buy a car use it for a month and then say "well I am generally unhappy with it" - refund me 100% NOW!
A refund....because you don't like it only happens in restaurants. Get serious. If you pre-ordered something, you SHOULD have already known what you were getting. Or you are foolish
Asking for a refund or calling the CC for a dispute is not necessarily bad. But when it becomes the normal thing and business as usual from some people is when its a problem.
If why not wait until you know you want the game before you preorder or even buy? Or put $5 down at gamestop? Or order from amazon? All of these options allow for much less hassel and an easier route if you want to cancel.
I admit I have " Preordered " and then canceled from gamestop or amazon. Its as easy as clicking a cancel button or telling the kid at Gamestop to move that $5 over to something else. Preordering from Funcom or Anet directly fully knowing that it is a good possibility you will cancel is irresponsible on your part. especially with other avenues of buying or just waiting.

i personally have not come across much in the way of bugs..maybe 2 small bus.the game works fantastic on my system.the gameplay is great imo..so i,m not sure what bugs and glitches you are referring to..perhaps avideo or pics m8..so i know what to look for.also i bought gw2 pre purchase and after beta i was not that impressed.the game was ok but here's the thing.i knew what i was getting into and you really should check the small print before you lay out money on an item.hope you find something that suits you m8.

Well with a car, you can return it usually within 3 days of purchase, depending on the state. MMO? Nope, no returns after opening the box, or if it is digital no returns period.
A refund....because you don't like it only happens in restaurants. Get serious. If you pre-ordered something, you SHOULD have already known what you were getting. Or you are foolish
What terrible places do you shop ?
Any decent clothing store lets you return something you dont like , even after wearing it once , with tags taken off , as long as you have receipt.
You can go buy a vitamin bottle , protein powder , whatever at GNC , open it , and if you dont like it , you walk back in and get your money back.
You can take a car home over the weekend from most decent car dealerships to try , some even advertise buy a car and dont like it you can return it a week later.
And so on and so on.
Most decent stores want to keep the customer happy , and if returning something they dont like for a refund keeps them happy and likely to do future business with them they see it as good business.
So no , sorry , many more businesses than "restaurants" give full refunds for simply not liking something.
A refund....because you don't like it only happens in restaurants. Get serious. If you pre-ordered something, you SHOULD have already known what you were getting. Or you are foolish
Only happens in restaraunts? Are you serious? I bought a new tv for the bedroom. Opened it up, hooked it up to cable and decided that I didn't like the size. It was a little too big for the room. But the next size down was more expensive than the one offered at a different store. So I took the tv back, got a refund, and went and bought a bit smaller tv at a different store. The entertainment industry is the only industry that I know of (Outside of groceries) where you can't return a product after purchase (after opening said product). I don't get why we hold the entertainment industry to such low standards.

I don't know where you live but that's not the case where I do. If you take tags off or open something at most you can get store credit unless you bought a warrenty and then you can only return if it's broken.

In most stores, they CAN AND WILL tell you to Fark off if you actually say "I didn't like it" Most don't because of the economy. Stop being smug, you know what I meant.
NCSoft didn't respond to my customer support request for over a week , still didnt. End of case for any CC company. Don't respond to the customer at all who requested a contact witih you makes it auto lose for the company to any CC company. Nothing fraudulent about it.

I would not say that the chargeback was fraudulent. You expressed reasons for the chargeback that were valid in the eyes of the credit card company, and therefore it is legal to enforce the chargeback.
It is also legal for many companies to refuse to sell you goods or services for any reason. The terms of service and user agreement for any game include the company declaring their right to terminate or refuse service at any time for any reason. You just gave NCSoft and ArenaNet a very good reason to refuse selling you their goods or services. Their reason would be that because you did a chargeback, which cost them money, you may do another chargeback, costing them more money.
In short, chargebacks are a very good way to get a company to invoke their legal right to refuse selling you their goods or services.

It is a preorder to a game not even out yet, I know of no other MMOs that didn't allow you to cancel a preorder. Most games don't charge you until the game is released. I canceled a preorder from warhammer/EA before. I don't preorder often at all but my friend does from gamestop or wherever and half the time even with a preorder they don't have a copy of the game to give him on day 1.
Is silly they claim the beta is part of the purchase even though it was given away for free through so many venues. In fact, because the beta access was given away freely and that was your purpose of buying the preorder legaly you should be able to get your money back because the beta was no longer "exclusive" and you thought you were paying for "exclusive" access.
Like others have said, the game is not out, just charge back if all else fails, is easiest method.
TBH anyone who bought the life time then played beta and was like "this isn't for me" and can't figure out how to cancel the mistake cracks me up.
pre-order does not mean pre-purchase. you have all rights to cancel it. i would even have paid the usual 5$ fee which comes sometimes with a pre-order in retail-shops. usually i dont pre-order games, but if they force me to do so for getting into open beta, i accept the offer.
For everyone who doesn't get the big deal, look up renege.
As someone who writes contracts for a living all these cancellations bother me. You have an offer, you have consideration, you have acceptance, those three combined constitute a legally binding contract, which, it seems, doesn't mean much to people. Furthermore, claiming fraud through your bank, as I've seen in some cases, baffles me. I just don't get why people can't accept responsibility for their own decisions.
Offtopic: I completely understand people canceling pre-orders like this, especially in cases where a pre-order is required by the company to try the game out. I was fortunite enough to get to try this game and see it isn't finished before ordering it, saving me the trouble.
I have yet to encounter a MMO game where people where required to pre-order / pre-purchase to try it ... never saw one.
Pre-ordering / pre-purchasing is for people who are sure they want it, not for those who just want to try. Neither are betas. That is what free trials are for, use those before you buy!
I can't understand why people still do this, neither I understand why people ever started acting like this.
Pathetic that some people can't take responsibility for their own stupid actions and try to blame the companies instead.
If you make the choice to pay for something you have not seen or tested, then you're at fault if you're unhappy with the product - not the company providing it.
No one forced you to preorder, now did they? No one took your money and disappeared without trace, right?
Sometimes I wish more people could act as adult individuals willing to face the consequences of their actions, instead of acting like spoiled brats.
