700k is very good for a new IP and now go back to your GW 2 and SWTOR Forums haters.
btw almost 3 weeks are over since the headstart and both the PVP and PVE Server that i play on are crowded and full with ppl even on different lv ranges. Thats exactlly the opposite compared to SWTOR. After 2-3 Weeks my PVP and PVE Server in SWTOR became ghost towns and both were pre start servers too.
Honestly 700k playrs is a bit high and it should over a bit of time lower itself.
That's not a bad thing.
I know some think that's bad but "some" also think that once a game launches it should grow. That's ridiculous. Some games will grow because they appeal to a greater amount of people and through word of mouth, reviews, advertising, etc, they grow.
Some games will NOT appeal to a mass amount of people and have players who are trying it out or decide it's not for them.
Tera is one shuch game. Personally I love it but I think it needs to "reduce" much like the cooking term and get to the core of its user base. Then the comapny needs to work on maintaining that user base.
It's ok for something to be a niche game as long as the company can make the profit they require. That's my onl worry.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
So 1.7 and 1.2 million are considered failures when SWTOR is the subject.
But when TERA is the subject, somehow 700k is considered a success.
Irony...
Lol.. just lol.
If one game project costs around 150+ million to develop, and the other costs around 40 million to develop.
Which one is the success?
The one with developing costs above 150 mil and 1.7 subs declining to 1.2 and below, or the game with developing costs of around 40 mil and 700k subs? EA can be happy if they are able to get their developing costs back, but it will most probably never be a financial success.. but after all, even break even or a small net income from this game could be called a success.
But however, it is far to early to say anything about succes in the case of tera, we should just wait a year to see how many they will have then.
But with around 500k subs in a year Tera will be a success, the question is just if they can hold that much players. Because after all, as much as i know Tera was the most expensive asia MMO up to now, with around 40 million $. So it isnt that easy either for Tera to perform really good financial.
I love Tera but keep in mind that its still in the free month, so anyone that bought the game still has active playtime. Also keep in mind that not everyones system can handle Tera there are plenty of people that can't play this game because their system does not allow them to do so.
The GMs of Tera seem to have near limitless power within their company. They can handle any issue, billing, in-game, anything. It would not surprise me at all that they have access to those numbers.

I have kind of a below average system and can play on medium to high settings, I have windows xp 32 bit, 4 gigs of ram, e8500 dual core, ati 4870 w 512 gig, I just cant play on all high or ultra because of the amount of ram, Tera wants you to have at least 6 gig for that , but the graphics on my settings are excellent and blow away TSW which I can only play on medium settings
as far as peoplle playing there seems to be less and less every day, In my guild a week ago we were averaging about 80 people at a time at night , that is down to about 35 and I have asked other guilds and they confirm the same thing
Don't know why you all think the number is so high to be honest, 700k for the NA servers seems reasonable to me - I would only expect 300-400k on the European servers.
TERA might not have had massive publicity but it has been covered for years and there are a lot of people who like to buy to try games.
I sincerely doubt the GM lied about the numbers. And if he was giving a global count it would be well over 700k..
Oh, so now it's 1 - 1.1 mil... with 21 servers.
Had to google image your link just to see what the picture was..
Don't be a hater all your life, try to be happy instead.
Kane out.
I'm the Hero Arborea deserves, but not the one it needs right now.
As long as they can keep them long term it will do fine. If not then you can flush this one also down the crapper. I wish them luck, if I get bored enough maybe I'll try it.
As Ive said before my guild is 3rd rated on our server and yesterday we had 8 people total log on out of 380. Many have already left and moved on... I promise you with D3 in 2 days, and TSW and GW2 to follow, by next month the game has maybe 100k paying for that first month sub if even.
700k players?. With just 11 servers where only 2 of them are heavy, 3 medium and the rest is just low at primetime. Thats probably EU and NA sells, lot of people bought the game and quit after level 20 like me, wait till the end of the free month and talk about subs.
I don't know why but the tera server status pages (unlike other mmorpgs) report the characters created on a single server and not how many players are online at the moment.
Don't ask me why they did such a silly thing.
We don't even how many characters Enmasse needs to label a server "high population" and how many characters Frogster needs.
The situation is kinda ironic and funny since Frogster list its 10 server as 9 high and 1 medium.
It does seem impossible for there to be 700k players on just the NA servers. Maybe EU/NA combined but I believe he was probably talking all regions combined including Korea.
Nontheless, in game I see people around constantly unlike say SWTOR where I was lucky to see one.

Here we go again
Yeah sure a random gm writing in chat to a random player that Tera has 717458 subscriptions.
And fanboys don't even understand he was just trolling .
"You see guys? over 717k subscriptions! and i know for sure they are increasing"
"i knew it!"
"i think they are just for NA servers"
"it has more players than Swtor! take that fail game!"
"no, i think it's NA + EU"
"wait a second he was probably making a very accurate addition to the very single digit of all the players around the world cause even though companies usually kept the info in absolute secrecy he obviously is a big corporate guy who knows the accurate subscription numbers of other game companies"
*epic facepalm*
Wake up guys
He was simply bullshitting you all.

I was gona buy this game but after playing GW2 beta I dont see a reason to buy it. GW2 is a heck load of fun and free to play. Tera needs to take a look at this if they want to make it. My guess is Tera subs will shrink a lot after GW2 is released. Both quality games but one has a monthly fee. <<<<shruggs>>>>> Funny thing is I was planning on buying both to see what one is better as they both focus on action combat. Maybe I will try the 14 day free things when they offer it.
My bet is this game will be F2P in about a year and then it will be one of the TOP f2p MMO's. I think they are doing things right get as much cash from subs then eventually move to f2p cash shop.
Right now they can afford to do subs because there aren't any decent mmo's out there right now and as word gets out that this game is fun more people will subscribe.

Well, the majority is going F2P with cash these days, even some mmorpgs that seemingly don't need to (see GW2). It seems that the companies start to realise that they can get more from impulsive buyers than what they can get from dedicated subscribers, and thus cater and mold their game for that crowd.
Still, Tera has kept their P2P model in markets that are traditionally hostile to this kind of payment, so I am not sure that they will eventually convert. SOE has converted all their games and so did NCsoft, Turbine and a number of other smaller companies. EA might convert as well, depnding on how SW:TOR is really doing.
In any case, no mmorpg that was prior a subscription game has converted in a year. It would be a mute point too, since other, perhaps more competitive and better games will be out by then (Archeage and hopefully World of Darkness). So waiting for Tera to go F2P to play it is not a wise move. By the time it could potentially get ripe for a conversion, other games will be out to hold our attention.
The servers have more players than WoW clone MMOs, I know this because I can roll a toon and get a name in other games, not so much in Tera. I see more players than I did in other games but that may due to the leveling curve. X fire has it above Eve online (400,000 subs) so 700,000 is close, it is below starwars that claims to have more but SWTOR is still free, I think, don't feel like loging in to check.
This game just needs some form of end game, the mechanics and PvE are better than Aion's Eastern launch and Aion still has a ton of eastern players and at the time of launch had no fun endgame, it had 1 horrible grind quest and a few PvP things.
The game has only been out two weeks, it is an MMO, the question is how many subscribers.

Hmmm. Of 380 you say...?
That must be ...
It's not so obvious to the majority of the forum.
They really want (or need?) to trust a random forum user reporting a random number from a random gm.
Someone even believes having 717548 subscription on 11 NA servers (And only 2 high pop) is totally plausible.
Go figures.

My opinion is that Frogster is being Frogster once again cause no way has NA less players than EU.
