Is it possible to solo ?
Hello,
just found this game it seems to be what I'm searching for.
But there is one thing I have to know before playing Ryzom.
Does this mean I can't go mostly solo through Ryzom ?

Everything I say is my opinion or personal preference. You may or may not find it useful to your cause but regardless I am entitled to it.
I've basically solo'd to 120 melee in this game(and could've continued on). I've also solo'd other skills close to that level and a couple higher. It's tougher with magic. At certain levels there will be more downtime. Vendors, last time I checked(I could be wrong), only sell weapons and magic tools in lvl increments of 50 once you hit 50. Although your skills will keep up with most creatures near your level, this can make it tough. You will probably want to find the ones in the community helpful enough to craft you weapons closer to your level or craft them yourself. If you harvest the materials I'm sure you can find someone willling to do so. You will also need to learn the environment of the game. There will also be a creature or two in any given area that you won't want to solo and will learn to avoid. That's part of the immersion of this game I loved though, you get to know Ryzom itself. It's been a while since I've played. Hopefully someone else will chime in here as well. Good luck and have fun, it's a great game.
Even with a small community, it's not hard to make some friend or ask in universe channel.
Solo it's pretty hard, but just 2 people, both with some healing capabilities, will totally remove the downtime, so you don't need to find big groups.
Anyway, Ryzom is a social game, you need to meet and live with the community to play it, otherwise grinding just the skills will kill you. The community in Ryzom is very helpful, so it's just up to you to became part of it.

I solo in most other mmorpgs. Not Ryzom. Although soloing in Ryzom is technically possible, it is extemely slow. As mentioned above, all you need is one other player. There are no classes so you don't need to find a tank or healer. Any two players, working together, can make exciting progress in a playing session. Because it has a great community I am happy to group with others (something I can't say about most other games).
That being said, the game is free to play (no cash shop) until you get any skill up to 125. Playing solo that would take many weeks. So give it a try.
Yep, Ryzom is hard to solo fight and magic skills.
Becuase of this a lot of players harvest and craft while they wait for the opportunity to form/get in a team.
One could skill up harvest and craft skills first and craft all the equipment they need for themselves but that is a very long project taking months if not years.
Vendor equipment is not really good for much so making friends with crafters is the best idea for getting good equipment.
Also getting certain mats for crafting is pretty much impossible solo but very good equipment can be made with just harvested mats just not the best equipment.
I read your other posts on what your looking for in a MMO. Ryzom can be quite grindy, especially soloing, joining a guild can be a lot less grindy as far as what one does if one wants. Also although Ryzom can have just absolutely epic awesome PvP -- the really good PvP battles are spotty.
Ryzom is an aweome game that can last a player for years, at least it has for me and many others, not sure if its what your looking for though.
I soloed my way through the beginner island, but within a few days of hitting the mainland I knew I was going to have to find a guild. The game was different and challenging, but it became a lot more fun once I joined a guild.

Are there any guilds in the game that are specifically working with new players to Ryzom?
I'll probably solo somewhat but the community in Ryzom seems to rock.
It's a solid game. Like the mob AI with the animals coming over to sniff mah boots!

I liked Ryzom but never got around to giving it a fair shot. I used to play on an old gaming laptop with an Nvidia 8700M and a dual core 3.2GHz processor and got a decent framerate. Since I got a new desktop, my framerate has been pretty bad. At first I thought it was an issue with ATI cards, but when I replaced my 5870s with an Nvidia 580 I had the same problem. Now I think it has something to do with AMD processors (which my desktop has), but I can't say for sure.
All I know is that it makes Ryzom marginally unplayable
Sorry, don't know what your problem is but I play Ryzom without any problems on a AMD dual-core.

It might. Might also be your OS, too. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 on a six-year-old Gateway with 1.86 dual-core and mobo graphics - can run the game on high settings no problem with a very playable framerate.
Which OS are you using?
The game can't play bad with any ATI HD series nor NVidia cards. More, with a 5870 or 580 you should be able to play at max resolution (even at full HD resolution) and max graphic settings. It's sure a misconfiguration of your new pc, at hardvare or OS level (i suppose you have at least 2GB RAM).
