    1) skill system MUCH better design. Choosing abilities is 100x more interesting (to me) than putting points in skills. There are way more combo to consider in D3.

    2) D3 is much more polish with much more content (obviously)

    3) character & abilty design is much better in D3

    4) much better destructive & interacting environment in D3

In fact, i can't find a thing that is better in torchlight

    1) This is something that's a matter of opinion (but I agree). BUT, since the mod tools will be released shortly after the game launches, a Diablo like skill system could be implemented by the end users.

    2) That's not obvious. TL2 seems pretty "polished" in the beta. Meaning the features are there, they work, and effort has been put into making things work 'nice'.

    3) This is a matter of opinion. The characters in D3 are certainly displayed at a higher resolution. The character classes themselves are well thought out in both games. The engineer is an engineer and seems like an engineer. The witch doctor is a witch doctor and seems like a witch doctor when you play them. I think TL2 is going to have people using a wider range of the available skills and D3 is going to have people sticking to a couple of 'go to' skills. Neither is a better thing...that just seems to be how it looks (so far).

    4) Probably true. Most of the environmental stuff in TL2 is in D3 and if you played D3 first, it'll seem very familiar. I would have liked TL2 to go in a completely different direction here.

5*) TL2 will have mod tools. The idea that you could put almost whatever you want into the game just strikes me as awesome.

6*) TL2 is $20 and D3 is $60. I don't think you're getting an extra $40 worth of content, or character design in D3. This is, of course, a matter of opinion, but I haven't seen or heard anything about D3 that's worth an extra $40.

7*) Your friends will probably be playing D3, no matter how good TL2 is. :-(

    ** edit **
Yes, I know you put IMHO in large, bold letters at the top of your post. :-)

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Thank you all again, at least I have my questions answered! I bought D3 today since I found it much cheaper than 60 euros at a store here in Sweden, so I gave in...so far seems ok. Pretty much what I expected and I like the feel of the game compared to for instance Torchlight 1.

Will see further on what I think, but thanks for all your help!

Not sure why but you feel the blizzard polish in diablo 3 even if it sticks with the old familiar hack and slash and doesnt realy inovate . I did play bit of torchlight 2 beta and it did have some points that where stronger tho in total i do like diablo 3 more not sure if its little things like sounds , birds flying around or the responsive combat .

Let me ask you this then, when you don't get to choose skills etc. in D3, doesn't that take away from your involvement of your character? Seems very little rpg not being able to choose what skills/spells you want to specialize in, or doesn't that matter to those of you who like D3?

Trying to establish what makes it tick, so to speak :)

ive not played much of d1 or d2  but i did play them   and i played quite a lot of torchlight 2  but i wouldnt  say i was any expert  or anything  on the whole  ARPG

for me  diablo 3 is really really good fun  i think ive done some 50 hours so far and  been well worth having

the skills  with no tress actualy i think works really well

its more like they give you all the skills and   now you have to work out what you like

what i have  found is  the amount of builds and how many different opinions on what is good and bad

you can look at the offical forums and  at how many diffrent builds people are posted

its  a really good system i think

the only downside ive found is the  campaing i felt was short  but i guess its cause torchlight had a random dungeons so made it feel  very big

What is so good about the D3 skill design is the IMPLEMENTATION behind it. Each rune will change the look and graphical behaivor of the skill. I highly doubt you can do it with a mod. Secondly, since 99% of player created stuff is crap, i highly doubt some random player can create well thought out skill set like those in D3.

5*) TL2 will have mod tools. The idea that you could put almost whatever you want into the game just strikes me as awesome.
Don't care about mod tools. Professional created content, IMHO, is 100x >>>> 99.99% of the user created ones. I pay to play a good games, not to make one.

Free for WOW annual pass .. so yeah, it is at a big discount for me, since essentially WOW pays for it.
Secondly, just the RMAH is worth the extra money. How many boss fights are there in T2, btw?

7*) Your friends will probably be playing D3, no matter how good TL2 is. :-(

    That too.

Agreed, the graphics of Torchlight is its biggest minus to me!

Compared to the 'amazing' graphics of Diablo?

That was sarcasm by the way, Diablo 3 looks like crap.

Not sure what you are judging Diablo 3 by, but up against Torchlight ... they do seem amazing, lol.

I am judging Diablo 3 by todays standards in graphics. I never said Torchlight looked amazing, but hearing Diablo 3 fans saying that Torchlight looks like crap just got my hypocrite sense tingling.

Personally between Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3, I think that TL2 has more attention to detail and a more interesting art style. Which makes up for the lack of pure graphical power somewhat. Diablo 3 just looks like a top down World of Warcraft. Very outdated and unimpressive.

Going to post replies down here. I don't want to try and edit responses into the mess that the editor has made of the whole thing.

    1) You can do it with the mod tools. The upside and the downside to the mod tools is the learning curve to using them. They are very powerful, but they aren't going to work like the Portal 2 Infinite Testing Initiative tool...you actually need some programming experience, some modelling experience, etc. to use them. Most of the garbage that would normally be inflicted on people will be filtered out by those people just not being able to use the tool. It's kind of a separate discussion, but I agree that most user generated content is garbage. I've noticed that the higher the barrier to entry is, the better the content is. The barrier to entry for Torchlight's tool is fairly high. It's not rocket science, but it's also not Kindergarten coloring either.

    5) To each their own. For some people, this is a big deal. For others, not so much. For me, in this particular case, it's a big deal. The mods for TL1 were generally pretty cool, with a few outstanding mods. I'm looking forward to seeing what the players come up with.

    6) Of course Free beats $20, but for the people who don't play (and won't play) WoW, it's $60. I've played both games and I don't see $40 more content, polish or anything else in D3 over TL2. The RMAH is only worth the extra money if you can make money in the game. It remains to be seen whether or not that's possible, and it's a personal opinion on whether or not it would actually be fun to play the game to make money.

I have no idea how many boss fights there are in TL2. I have no idea how many boss fights there are in D3.

    7) Yup.

Sorry artstyle rather than graphics! is what I meant. Not impressed by graphics in D3, artstyle only so so, but gameplay good fun so far.
