The Difference Between A Fanboi & A Hater

MeleagarMeleagar Member Posts: 407

IMO, the difference between a GW2 fanboi and a GW2 hater is:

GW2 fanboi understands that ANET game design philosophy is targeting US, that GW2 is designed for OUR playstyle & gaming mindset, and has addressed most of the desires players like us have been clamoring for ever since EQ came out, and is already in-game and functioning beyond our wildest dreams and expectations through two BWEs.

GW2 hater is disappointed that GW2 doesn't make their traditionally supported and celebrated MMOG playstyle seem new and fresh again.

You could've picked a better thread title. Soon "Haters" from other game forums will come and all hell will break loose.

There's also the people who like GW2 without being a fanboy and people who don't like GW2 without being a hater.

A cleverly disguised baiting thread appears......or not.

Real Difference Between a Hater and Fanboi = Whether then blindly love or hate a game.

Otherwise both are just blindly ranting for/against the game often times overlooking flaws/posatives and claim the game is the best/worst thing ever with very little facts. Both sides use incredible Bias. Case in point what the OP literally put up top.

Sorry buddy, but you might be mortal enemies with haters, but they are far closer to being just like you then you could ever imagine. That hater is practically your twin, hate them but they are exactly like you except for the word hater over fanboi.

Except I don't visit the forums of games I don't enjoy and say negative things about them.  My history with MMOG's is a long one of making do with developer philsophies entirely at odds with my playstyle. Instead of complaining about those games or "hating" on them, I started a blog about what I'd like to see in a game for people like me.

GW2 is a game that happens to be dedicated to my playstyle, and the ANET manifesto and philosophy is a mirror of my own views.  What's the point in going to other game forums and knocking the game, or attacking its fans?

  • jondifooljondifool Member UncommonPosts: 1,143

i don't even think the OP is right at his first assumption.

ArenaNet is NOT designing a game to the Fanbois. They are designing a game that is very very causal friendly. That there is gamers that like that enough to become fanbois is another story.

and ++ to the comments about bad thread title.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)

Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.

You compare GW2 to EQ when GW2 is completely lacking in the MMO department not to mention no RPG in the game. it is just a action game. Seriously it is a good action combat game with good PvP but that is all it is. No where close to anything like EQ.

    Generally speaking:

If a Hater is wrong, then you missed out a great game but you may still buy it later on for $10.

If a Fan is wrong, then you wasted 50-60 bucks.

Thread title is too generic. Only when I clicked it I realised that it was about GW2 and in a GW2 section, I thought it'd be some general discussion about the thread title topic.

As for your comment, heh, sadly enough you don't speak for all MMO gamers. In fact, I'd go so far and say that on the forums of this site, you don't even speak for the majority. There are whole hordes of MMO gamers, GW2 'fan(boi)s/haters' as well as fan(boi)s/haters of other MMO's, who don't avoid the forums of games they hate or dislike at all. As everyone who visits this site regularly is aware of.

  • terrantterrant Member Posts: 1,683

A Fanboi is an idiot who supports a game no matter what flaws it might have and will respond rabidly if anyone makes even constructive criticism.

A Hater is someone that ahtes a game no matter what, and will go out of their way to find things wrong with a game no matter how good; often resorting to half-truths and blatant misdirection.

In all honestly, much of the posters before for and against this game are neither; just players expressing their concerns. But the fanbois and haters make us ALL look bad.

The need to label people is amazing, really. A discussion automatically becomes moot, for me, when such monikers start being thrown around.

You like the game, you defend it. To what extent, depends on the individual.

You hate the game, you bash it. To what extent, depends on the individual.

  • aspekxaspekx Member UncommonPosts: 2,167

can't we all just get along? i mean ... really.

can't i just like a game, or not, and leave it at that?

an infinite game for the purpose of continuing play."

Seriously did you play the game? There is no RPG anywhere close to EQ or any other pre-WOW MMO. It is still just the same dumbed non-persistant world BS we have gotten for years with great combat and PvP. Don't fool yourselves!

This kind of crap will stay on the forums, while anything anyone says about "maybe" disliking GW2 or Anet gets the user temp or perma banned. What a joke.

I am dissapointed, I thought when I clicked on the thread that I might see some clever flame bait, or something well written. I got neither. Just poorly disguised bait. I want a refund for the brief time I wasted reading this.

I'm a fan of this game, but I wouldn't classify myself as a 'fanboi' which, in my book is another way of saying 'troll.'

I think there are a lot of positives in this game and I've enjoyed what I've done so far.  Would I do things differently?   Some things.   But it's not my call and what they've is perfectly acceptable within the realms of good game design.

You do realize the difference between extremist polarities is not a binary toggle, but an analog scale, right?

'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

I remember this guy he was also a Alaganon cheerleader before it was released as well, pretty much advocating he shouldn't have to work for anything in MMO's took a look at his at his oldest forum history and go forward from there. Guess Alagnon didnt pan out for him did it?

The difference between a real fanboy or hater isnt much.  They're both extremist.  Any hater is probably a fanboy of something else and vice versa.  There are no fanboys or haters.

Just extremists.  With the absolute view of total white or total black of various subjects without the real ability to see any shades of grey, which in truth, is the spectrum all things reside in, therefore making any extremist not just partially, but mostly blind.

Call me crazy, but this is an MMO gaming forum and people are going to talk about MMOs.  Not everyone has to like the game to discuss it.  I'm sorry people are saying mean things about your Precious.  Maybe a fan site where anything other than Sunshine and Rainbows is banned might be more what you're looking for.
