I think you are missing some key features in game that are loads better than most. The collection system in your bank allows you to send raw materials, gems, enhancement items and ALL crafting materials to your bank from anywhere in the world. There are 100's of "free bank slots" in that collection window. You should hardly need to be storing anything in your bank at all.
I have zero inventory issues after purchasing more bag slots and crafting my own bags. I don't have a problem with them charging for convenience items, especially since this is likely one of the only things I will get on my characters or purchase in the cash shop ever.
Also, 3 crafting professions can make bags, clothworker, leatherworker and armorsmith. There should be plenty of people able to make them and you can trade in the game. I don't see the issue, honestly. My guess is you have overlooked a few things that are in game that make inventory issues basically a non-issue. With salvaging kits and the "send to collection anywhere", you shouldn't have any issues with inventory space at all.
Best inventory system of any MMO that I've played. Never ran out of space (even with just 8 slot bags) considering all crafting material went to my collectables and weapons/armor I didn't need were sent straight to the Trading Post without having to visit an NPC.
Having intentionally small inventory space is a gimmick of F2P cash shop games. So, who's bags were all full this weekend? Mine were, despite being able to craft bags.
Mine wern't, but then I made use of the WPs and other systems to sort things out to my bank mules.
Not only did I craft 10 slot bags, but I had the fun of crafting things like invisible bags!
Experimenting to discover various recipes is fun.
(An invisible bag, for those who are wondering, is one where any items you store in it don't show up at the shopkeeper. Great for keeping your weapons in so you don't accidentally sell your alternate weapons or whatever)
The bag system in GW2 is super awesome.
Also, I will admit that they probably need to explain the whole collectibles tab better. So many people are surprised by the awesomeness it is.
You can literally never run out of space because you can send crafting materials to bank from anywhere (just one click away), and everything else (weapons, armor pieces...) (except for junk items i think) you can salvage and turn into crafting materials and send them again directly into bank.

... and the junk items never have a chance to really stack up because I swear, shopkeeper is the #3 occupation in Tyria, right after 'player character/Adventurer' and 'guard who spends 90% of their time dead in some random field'.
Though I managed well with the bags I was given I can see a lot of new players having problems initially. On BWE1 I was packed with stuff so fast, I didn't know where the bank was or how to craft bags and the game does not give you a good hint about it, (I don't think there's a bank on the outside zones). I must say it was very confusing, however asking around I managed to find a bank and how to deposit collectibles which made managing items a million times easier.
Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.
Didn't seem that small to me. Make some bags with your armorer crafting profession or buy some from players. On top of that, with the Deposit Collections function and the Salvage Kits, you have tons of space, IMO. I think the only exception is Cooks.
I will have to admit that I did find the vault to be a bit small to be shared among all characters, crafting materials notwithstanding. I'd also like to see ArenaNet create a system like SWTOR has, where crafting materials can be used directly from your vault storage instead of having to run back to the bank for materials. It's not so bad in the Black Citadel, but Divinity's Reach is a pain to run between the bank and the crafting stations.

the great thing about such threads is, that they show just how great the game really is. they thought of everything. I love the crafter-bank - altough, as mentioned, a system to use the mats out of it would be even better!
Having intentionally small inventory space is a gimmick of F2P cash shop games. So, who's bags were all full this weekend? Mine were, despite being able to craft bags. The problem is that you can BUY two more bag slots in the CASH SHOP ONLY. I feel bad for people who choose other professions and couldn't even make themselves bags or choose not to craft. Luckly for them, you can buy bags in the cash shop! AHHH!
And if you are a crafter, you have to either keep your crap with you, or store it in your minimal bank space which is kept far away from you in the cities... Oh but like always, the gem shop has a solution for you, instant bank access cash shop items! Intentional? I'm thinking yes.
So far, what's not included in a $60 game is - Convenience, and inventory space that is not intentionally small... Anything else we can add? Maybe the fact that the game is not fixed into making you buy stuff from the cash shop.
Poeple have pointed out how wrong you are on so many points that i justed wanted to point out another. All Char can learn every Crafting Prof. You just can only have 2 going at a time. But when you switch you don't lose what exp you had gained in that crafting area.
OP should educate himself before making statements that are foolish.
Your bags are ROUGHLY the same size as your bags/bank in GW1. In GW1 you were about to buy a couple ingame and a couple out of game. You were able to purchase mat storage in game which held up to 250 of a mat. I'm pretty sure GW2 made that number unlimited. All characters in game had access to the same bank.
I think you just wanted to post to make some flippant remark about P2W or other silliness.
Move along, nothing to see here.
+1. Nvm the fact that in addition to the crafting-mat tab in the bank, you can buy freakin' gems with gold for more bag slots, use in-game Runes of Holding to increaseyour bag space, etc., etc., etc. In the end, this is just another "down with GW2" thread.
I thought the bag space was just something to drive you batty. You only spend a few mins in the field and your backpack is full. Doesn't matter that you can sell anywhere are send to the bank it is just to small of space and takes way from the gameplay.

Desparately trying to make up things to hate on, eh?
i had no bag space problems, because i PvP"t alot. But yes Crafters can make bigger bags.
They can make 15 slots, I know for sure(since I bought some). Possibly larger, and then those can be increased with runes of holding...
And you can get mroe slots to carry more of them... So with the starter bag + 5-6 15 slots or 20 slots... I can't see anyone really complaining about this.
maybe OP is correct, maybe is a trick to get us to buy stuff in the cash shop and if that were the case I can honestly say that Arenanet is doing a HORRIBLE job at it.
I've never once filled my bags.. even if I did I'd just travel instantly to the bank, dump my stuff and head back to where I was... all in about 1-2 minutes.
One of the biggest initial packs available in an MMO from the start.. upgrade to 10 slot bags and you're laughing. Take into account we can just send crafting materials instantly to the bank and put things up on the tradepost from anywhere and we are just being spoiled.
I actually think they are giving us too much because I never even fill half of it by the time I'm at the next heart merchant to sell or at an outpost. That's 'without' sending stuff instantly to the bank or putting things on the tradepost.
Not to mention you can buy gems with ingame gold and get more bag slots without spending any real money.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
Characters with the Leatherworker crafting abilities could produce 8 slot leather bags, which requires a crafting level of zero.
With the relative ease of gathering materials for crafting I do not see a problem with inventory space.
Leatherworking isn't even the only one. Most of the crafting professions seem to be able to do this (I know I could also do it as an armorsmith. I think huntsman can as well?).
I'd say it's more of a psychological thing than anything else. With how easy it is to get lost in the game world, it almost doesn't even matter how large or small your bag is at times. You just won't be paying attention to your bags that much until you get a notification stating 'oh btw, you may wanna clean up your inventory, it's overflowing'. Time flies when you're having fun.

Leatherworkers, Tailors and Armorsmiths are able to produce bags / containers.
Want a bigger bag?
Spend some silver for runes of holding. With the rewards for fully exploring any given area the in-game gold + transmutation stones + gems + various exp buffs will start to arrive in large chunks.
WIth the option of selling at any heart NPC, right-clicking to send to storage, and instantly posting the items for sale on the tradingpost it really helps to maintain the level of immersion.

Just an FYI on your comment there. You do not lose your crafting exp for a craft you switch out, but based on that exp level in that craft, the cost to make it active again goes up accordingly. The higher the current skill in a craft, the more it costs to make active again from a passive state.
Keeping that in mind, lets say you are a warrior who wants to make your own armor and weapons, so you focus on leveling those two up. The you switch out to make some rings, the cost to get Jewelry going active isn't much, but switch back to your chosen primary will be a lot.

After I discovered that you could right click mats to send them to storage, and that you could find and craft larger bags, I never ran out of space.
I've seen worse inventory setups.
Wow I did not know about send to storage. That is amazing lol
