This is cute. I've heard the same things from my mom. Whenever I call her she always asks. Still playing games on the computer.. I'm like yep..

Funny thing is, when I was little my Mom used to play games a lot! I remenber watching her play Bubsy, and Yoshi's Island.

Sigh no more, authors, sigh no more,
    Posters were demanding ever,-
One foot in game and one on boards,
    To one world constant never.

    (welcome, Pokket)

Not a Pokkett fan but I liked the column.  I think its the best thing she has done.  She usually fails when she attempts to talk about game information but just being herself as in this article makes her much more appealable.  In her videos and her writing here she does a very good job of talking about herself.  If she can stay away from details and stick to being less serious and just have fun with what she talks about, like this article, her articles will be much better.

so whose pokket and what makes her popular again? I must've missed something. Is she like some competitive gamer?

  • InktomiInktomi Member UncommonPosts: 663

I liked the post and wrote my own in response to it. I think that she is touching on the her experience and the downside of being a hardcore gamer.

Nevulus you must not visit this site often to make such a strange comment. Pokket made sever vids for swtor, and also had streaming swtor when they were raiding, not sure if she still does that stuff or not.

I read her diary, and well I guess shes a hard core gamer chick, reminds me of my wife back in eq, before wow ever showed up. I am not sure about this column I guess im confused by it, so I will have to read some more of it in the future, before I make a decision on it.

I actually like this column more then the other things pokket does, sure it might be a bit personal but perhaps these types of things just suit her.

I don't much like her videos, but I'll read these.

I am, personally, not a fan of her commentary.  But, I like to read or listen to just about anything related to subject matter that I enjoy, in this case... MMOs.

(wonder if this is dipolomatic enough to warrant not being removed by the staff here.)

I enjoyed reading this quite a bit. Its different from the usual articles. I like it

    Shouldn't ado be adieu?

    Nah,

the phrase has its origins in Shakespeare from his play of the same name.

edit: well, substitute "gaming" for "nothing". I might've liked Shakespeare a lot more if he'd written about gaming though.

Usually I do not like Pocket's comments. But this text was good. Video games addiction is a big issue, which most people who are into MMOs like to ignore.

Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.

I quite enjoyed the article, its not a profound world changing piece sure but it describes most my nights as I attempt to get to bed before 11

Never call a girl gamer hot, they might fart or something to try and blow your fanatasy. but this young women seems to have a bright future and it beats seeing some nerdy glasses wearing guy try to act cool when doing interviews. she does well at hat she does.

You think Death Knight is bad? Try playing a hunter.

"I was an English major in college, naturally with an emphasis on Creative Writing,"

I'm sorry but it doesn't show. I found it boring and unfocused. And try to make the beginning more appealing to lure people in. Your beginning paragraph has ZERO humour or other methods to relate to the reader.

30K DPS or go home. It's DPS DPS or DPS. At least with DK's they can tank.

Replace "school" with "work" and I relate 100%.  Good read, keep it up.

Or a shaman. When I quit mid last year, they were pretty much the biggest joke of a class in the game.

  • DragimDragim Member UncommonPosts: 867

Interesting, I question my own gaming habits as well.

However, I enjoy my sleep and don't usually stay up past 2 a.m, waking up by 10 a.m., but when college starts again...joy...haha.

Not a bad write-up though, some people are real grammar nazis on the internets, only if we all could be english teachers, what a world it would be.

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

    THIS!

Real gamers don't need to write columns, to profess how much of a gamer they are. They just stick to the games, and let their writing speak for itself.

Pokket, really, do you have to show us a gamer tag? It's like running up to a guy, ripping off your shirt, ramming his face into your cleavage, with you saying...

    "SEE! I'm a girl!!!"

  • fatladfatlad Member Posts: 1

I like how this describes the vast majority of gamers I know, and how the author is blatantly pointing out how ridiculous the time spent gaming (not to mention other completely frivolous activities) can be.

I'm 22, my mom has said something like this to me for 15 years. The same thing happens with my buddies who are gamers (and I'm guessing a lot of people here).

    Working on moderation :)

You don't get a PhD by sitting on your ass playing WoW 8 hours a day.
