You know, this thread makes me feel comfortable. Aside from people not liking the under-dramatic combat (which i actually liked more than over-the top flashy light show animations) and people not liking a game with a story...this really is the biggest downside of the game. Character creation isnt where you have a slider bar and a color wheel for every aspect of your character.
IMO on the bright side you dont have mishapen and goofy looking characters, they all look like normal humans, you dont have 2 foot tall pvp characters, you dont have people with neon green hair/neon red facial hair, and purple skin...
Also i did recall Ragnar making a post letting the community know he heard our gipes with a lack of customization..so it should improve down the road if not just for a few more options.
But thats really it so far with the game? Doesnt seem like a lot of gamebreaking issues over here on my side of the computer..and to be honest, its going to be nice to play a game with just normal humans for once.
I was quite happy with the way my character looked, very pleased indeed... although she did tend to stare strangely in cut-scenes which was a little off-putting. There aren't a lot of facial options though and hair in particular seems lacking with no longer hair options.
The character creator certainly could have been a lot better with a lot more options than what they have at the moment. There have been posts on the official forums suggesting that more will be added at launch...
Thanks for your feedback! Let me assure you that it's not laziness. Our guys have been working hard to make our character creation as flexible and fun as possible. This Beta does not contain all the customisation options that will be in for launch -- in fact, most of the work done by the character creation team the past few weeks is not in this version -- and you'll get a lot more facial features, makeup and hair options at launch.
Clothing has always been our main focus with character creation, and you'll find that the game has a LOT of clothing options -- available through the in-game vendors, through rewards, and also the item store. As for other customisation options, there are a lot of things we would have loved to do that we had to postpone until after launch. At some point, we want to allow players to go back and modify their existing characters -- like changing hairstyles and adding tattoos. But more on that at a later stage.
This is exactly what I said a few pages back when I said "I get it."
I really couldn't care less what my characters face looks like, given that I hardly ever see it while playing. And given that I seldom play zoomed in to first person view, I can't really see what other players' faces look like either.
What I DO see all the time is what that character is wearing. And in that department, TSW shines. The range of clothing and accessory options is already good, and it will only get better. Sure, some of it will probably be cash shop only, but I'm perfectly happy with what's in game already.
The main gripe seems to be that the female faces are ugly, and there I agree. Not only are the current shapes unattractive, but the expressions are universally glum and depressing.
Let's face it (*pun intended), men don't like playing "ugly" females. Those characters better be drooliciously hot, else the boys are going to refuse to play them. Forget about "realism" in that department, at least half the options need to look like supermodels.
Another one of these threads? Are people truely threatened by a game so much or do people really believe their opinion matters when anyone is considering these games?
I find it odd that a game offering so much customization in clothing is so lacking in actual character creation. Very disappointing...
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
When I was making my first female character to check out their options, I thought I couldn't make one that didn't look hideous, then I realized I was missing the Face type slider.
I really wish it had more sliders though, for height, weight, muscle, freckles, make-up etc.
Lets hope they add some kind of advanced tab where you have all the sliders you could want for at least the facial part.
It dont have to be like Aion/PerfectWorld/APB advanced, but a little more options would not hurt.

I think I may have read somewhere that these were not all the option and only a handful until launch. I mean it is only beta at the moment.
That's great if it is the case but can we drop the "only beta" schtick. I mean the game is like three fucking weeks away from launch. Using the beta card really comes across as silly anymore. If we were talking a couple months I would get it. But come on...

is it just me or does the CC just really suck? Most of the guys look the same and the females look very odd...maybe one that is normal.
I agree - This is among my biggest complaint with the game so far (I've only done one beta weekend).
I hate when games CC allows only 'pretty' characters. I don't need or want my undead killer looking like Brad Pitt. I want a rough, ugly char - unfortunatly there is no option for that, all the chars look like Abercrombie models with 6pack abs.

So, it looks like they weren't prioritizing character creation, but mainly the clothing before the first beta weekend, and only after that cranked up the resources and time spent on the character creation. So, in short, more choices for sure at launch.
I have to agree with the op. The CC is awful for females. I was using the random button and each one they conjured up lookedl like an old strung out lady. Yet on the cover of the game, and all advertisements you see a beautiful blonde as a templar, I saw no long hair options at all, just chin length. As for the guys who are saying another one of these threads, you betcha. I'm not dropping a bunch of money on a game where I can't look the way I want or close to it. Hell the Sims look alot better then this new game, beta or not they are just fugly. Being an RP'er I don't want to look like some strung out old junkie, especially when I'm supposed to be saving the world and trading favors etc. In the real world no one would talk to me looking that way..lol I hope they improve it, but for me I think I'll stick to other games for now. Good luck TSW.

That is great to hear. Good info and thanks. Glad that will be the case.
Still, when there is a couple weeks left before a game launches just say no to the "its only beta" phrase.

I have to agree with the op. The CC is awful for females.
You've got CoX and Aion, perhaps one or two others that actually set out to create serious and flexible CCs. Then everyone else-the games that set up a half-hearted CC because its required, it just isn't a priority. The only real competition is for who comes in last place.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
"I don't want everyone to think we're using a dummy character creation for this Beta, and that we'll unleash a brand new and shiny character creation for launch -- that's not the case. "

Why not add the part where he says what will actually be in:
What you see is what you get, plus more options. Specifically more options for the faces, together with make-up, freckles and some facial paint/tattoos. There will also be some tweaked hair colours, baldness (much requested, strangely enough) and we're revising the clothing selection a bit.
I have to agree with the op. The CC is awful for females.
I just don't see it. This was pulled from their forums. Some random beta tester posted this.
You didnt play in the beta did you? The clothing aint the problem, its the facial part. Almost every female i encountered had generally the same face.
I did play. Didn't notice the clothing in the picture above but it is really nice. I was more or less talking about the hair/eyes that are awesome. There is actually already a post in this thread explaining more will be available AND some other thread has a picture of all beta male faces.

What is incredibly annoying is when you consider how old COX is at this point. Shame more don't consider this important.

Awwww....gotta love people pulling crap out of context. At least this time the quote came from General Forums, so you can post the full quote to rebuttal the haters. +1
Only two games had good Character Creation: Aion and CoH. Every other game it has sucks and most are even worse the TSW (We are all humans so yes we dont' look like Trolls!).
Stop judging everything about this game beyond any level of reality.

LOL you know something is bad when they announced 1.3 million beta testers and there are only like two or three people saying it's not crap XD
Just goes to prove, there are many diverse opinions in the world
And about 40 people have expressed theirs in this thread so far...

I played the last beta and wasn't very impressed with character creation. I felt like I kept seeing characters that looked to much like mine.
Found it.

= No options for tattoo's
=No options to age your character
=No options for body weight/muscle proportion.
I have to agree with the "only beta" argument really doesn't hold water in most cases, but in this case, the producer of the game have said what they will have more options by launch http://www.darkdemonscrygaia.com/showpost.php?p=840406&postcount=56:
