People are hating on it because of the hype without even trying it for themselves..best mmo i have played post 2004.
Yes because it is completely impossible to have played it and not liked it, right?
I've played all the events except the one yesterday, I thought it would grow on me; it didn't. I hate almost everything about it, I think other than not having sub fees it is a devolution in the genre and is the ultimate arcade MMO. That is just my opinion, no one cares and it doesn't matter, but you can be sure that there are people who feel the same.
To the OP, all new games have hype. First read up more on it, or watch videos, if you like what you see, buy it. Don't make threads on a site clearly filled with GW2 lovers, asking them what is so good about it, while also criticising it. What do you hope to acheive?
if you have played it and dont like it that's fine, try re-reading my post. the OP has not played the game, yet claims to know what the game is and isn't. Also the OP is from norway and is a massive TSW fanboy.
LOL I went back to read the OP because I didn't remember spotting anything remotely TSW fanboyish and you know what, there isn't. And at no point did the OP state to know what the game was or was not. That is why he asked questions.
Seems to be the only fanboy here is you. Grow up and realise people can like different games, have no problem playing for things they like and just because they don't have the same opinion as you doesn't make them wrong.
Some friendly advice, grow up.
Maybe you should read his post again...and post history is a great tool, he posts misinformation about the game thats claim enough. you seem to be getting very upset mate. My point is you can't have an opinion about a game unless you have played it. All his knowledge comes from reading posts on mmorpg.com
quoted from the OP "I have read that it does not have much of PVE"... thats a complete fallacy.
Whether the OP is a TSW fan or not (And seriously, WTF does being Norwegian have to do with anything? I'm an American and you don't see me praising everything EA does), he asked fairly honest, valid questions. Answer them honestly and fairly. Yelling "troll!" every time someone that likes another game shows up just makes the GW2 community look as bad as a lot of its detractors say it is.

You know what I don't get? Threads like this. What can't you get about a person being excited about a game that has certain features that appeal to them but not you?
Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.
I, for one, don't understand why so many people derive enjoyment from needlepoint. And yet, I don't go to needlepoint forums and claim that the only reason all those people enjoy needlepoint is because they are too cheap to buy a sewing machine.
I realize that you may not like GW2, and may not get the hype, but that does not make anyone else's opinion less valid.
Hype or not. Who cares. If you can't tell if the game is for you or not based on your own research wait for the free trial that will come eventually and try it then and find out for yourself.
Desperation for the next big mmo. I don't blame them though, since vanilla WoW mmos have been craptastic.
This is probably the most hilariously obnoxius post in a while here. Not a small feat. Sweeping generalizations FTW.
OP, if you don't get why people like the game, too bad. Many think it is a great game, with some onteresting twists over the usual MMO fare. And, that's all that matter.
Been reading the forums and see a tremendous ammount of hype for this game. What is it everybody are so excited about?
Is it the PVP? If that is the case why not go for a shooter?
I cant say that the lore or environemnt appeals to me. I mean running arund like a cat with a bears head with horns? I have read that it does not have much of PVE (some for sure, but its not regarded as it strengths)
It may be the same thing that put me off Diablo 2 and made me exited for SWTOR.
So back to the PVP, is that the main strength? Because I can relate to that eventhough it is not my thing Or is it "gameplay" like Diablo 2?
You are probably not interested in teh answer as you didn´t react a single time in this thread.

It really is overhyped, a lot even. While I will play it I personally don't consider the game more than average. Its main advantage is the weakness of the competition these days.
I do hope that once people will have got to play for more than one weekend a month they will realize and admit how shallow and repeatitive this game actually is.
Basing the opinion of a game on the limited play experiences people have is like basing your judgement of Age of Conan on Tortage. I'm damn certain that eventually people will wake up and admit that while the game is ok it definitely is NOT even remotely close to being as special as so many want to make it sound.
every mmo gets overhyped. every mmo gets brought down to earth upon release. Same will happen with GW2.
Its the next big thing until its released, than another game takes that title and GW2 becomes the most trolled mmo on the internetz till that mmo releases.

I think you are very mis-informed about the game, which is the reason you don't get the hype.
This is the most enjoyable, content rich PvE based MMORPG since WoW launched. The world is massive, beautiful and immersive. The PvE content is a lot of fun. The cooperative nature of game play and the way you adventure with out need of a quest log, by just exploring the world, all will make it difficult to return to more traditional MMORPGs. I've even found some solo RPGs unplayable after playing GW2.
I've logged nothing but PvE play for over 85 hours in the various events and it's not only the best 85 hours of game play I've had in a very long time, but I've just barely scratched the surface of the PvE content offered by the game. Replayability is also huge in this game, because of the extreme redundancy of content and the effects that Dynamic Events have on keeping places you have been interesting on return trips.
Who ever told you this is primarily a PvP game, with PvE tacked on as an after thought was either misinformed or lying. This game is the entire package.
I've managed to get a lot of GW2 time in and to be perfectly honest, I can't bear to play any other MMOs anymore. Gods, the thoughts of having to wait for a healer to run any significant content, or having to walk up to some dude with a "!" over his head only to go kill ten of those threatening wolves in the field that are menacingly standing around... I can't go back to that archaic, dead style of world anymore. I like a world where content will come to me, whether or not I'm looking for it. I like a world where my skills with my character determine how well I do, even in lower level zones, and it's not simply a matter of how far I ran on the gear treadmill. I like the little things, like right clicking on crafting materials and sending them to my bank, no matter where I am in the world. I like that water isn't a boundary, it's a whole new area of content to dive into. I like a PvE world free of faux-PvP gods that get there willies ganking low level characters and a PvP world that's massive in scope and adds enough balance so that even low level characters will be able to put up a fight. I like trebuchets, catapults, cannons, ballistae and battering rams. Walking with a dolyak, getting jumped by two or three people, and surviving. Dungeons meant to kick the arses of the unprepared and reward the ready. Mysteries to be explored in an open world... things you'll never find if you don't look for them.
Nah, you can keep your TSW, WoW, SWToR or whatever other archaicly designed MMOs you prefer. I've years of content in GW2 waiting for me. I'm good.
Part of the "GW2 effect" seems to be that no matter how you explain it, or how many videos you make, it's impossible to convince anyone who hasn't played (and has already made up their minds that it's overhyped or whatever) how fun and different it is. It's like trying to explain how a really well made gourmet meal tastes to someone who's only ever eaten at mcdonalds, there's just no frame of reference.
Sure, it's not for everyone, not much besides oxygen and water is. Since it has no subscription fee, I'd recommend anyone who likes games and is at all interested to try it if they can afford to. If you can't afford it, or are totally convinced that you'll hate it, don't buy it, but please stop coming to game forums asking people to convince you that it's good then talking about how bad it is in your biased and inexperienced opinion.
I don't understand the hype either. I played in the first two beta weekends and was disappointed with both. The game doesn't feel as "inventive" as everyone makes it out to be. The classes bored me to no end and it felt like an endless grind of levels like any other MMO. Maybe it is the fact that it is "Buy to Play" and not subscription based that people are excited about, but everyone that I've spoken with that has put in any amount of hours during the beta weekends were less than impressed as well.
Best of luck to ArenaNet. It sounds like they will bank off the game sales, but I doubt it will last.

This is the cycle of mmos.
And how will you react if after release it doesn't go down, or even worse(from your perspective) keeps going up?
If you have read all the available information and are still not interested then dont bother?
All the info is out there as clear as day. If it isnt floating your boat nothing we can say will change that, just move on to something that interests you more.
Been reading the forums and see a tremendous ammount of hype for this game. What is it everybody are so excited about?
Is it the PVP? If that is the case why not go for a shooter? Well, in that case why don't we tell LoL, Tera, lineage2, and every other game which pits players against each other to just shut down, since players could be playing shooters instead. Some people don't like shooters. Not only that but shooters, for the most part, don't have persistent worlds with keep sieges, character advancement, etc.
I cant say that the lore or environemnt appeals to me. I mean running arund like a cat with a bears head with horns?
So don't play a Charr. There are many others. Play a human if nothing else appeals to you. Play a Norn(think giant viking warrior). Play a sylvari or an asuran(and for anyone who thinks "awww, just another cute little race"... They have serious bad attitudes, a superiority complex(not necessarily undeserved), and teeth like a freakin shark. They are like sharks... on land... with laser-beams... and sarcasm)
I have read that it does not have much of PVE (some for sure, but its not regarded as it strengths) Not sure where you read that... It definitely wasn't from anyone who played the game, any review that I've read, or any of the gameplay videos. Either way, having played it myself I can honestly say that the PvE is fantastic and will definitely draw you in.
It may be the same thing that put me off Diablo 2 and made me exited for SWTOR. And what exactly was that? Since you don't specify what put you off D2 or made you leave SWTOR, I can't comment.
So back to the PVP, is that the main strength? Because I can relate to that eventhough it is not my thing Or is it "gameplay" like Diablo 2? It is exceptional gameplay, it is great PvP(tournament and open world... And yes, I know some people define open world as being able to attack lowbies in the PvE zones. too bad, I don't), It is great PvE. All in all, the game is just overall more polished and more immersive.
Also, some people don't like a specific racial story... my advice? Either stick with it, since the stories pass in huge arcs and while you may not like one step, the overall arcs are really nice, imo... Or else reroll to a different race or make different story line choices and follow a different arc that you may like better.

I don't understand this at all. If the classes are that boring, maybe you're playing the wrong genre of games entirely, or maybe just need a break from games in general? If you thought you had to grind levels then you were missing a lot, it's been explained 457862435872 times in other threads, but GW2 is exploration and immersion based rather than grindy (sure, you can grind, but then you're playing wrong). People only see what they expect to in some cases, I guess.
The FEEL of this game is just different to me than anything I've played in decades. Sure, in some ways it's similar to many MMOs. I've never played another MMO where at level 3 I had an NPC run up to me screaming for help, and when I followed him found a massive siege of enemies and a group of players who had never met working together to repel it, then rezzing the fallen and pusing those filthy invaders back to their cave and finally killing their boss. In most games you have to grind on 34578623 kill 10 rats quests before anything remotely exciting. I've never played another MMO where I felt encouraged to help every random person I saw rather than thinking "will they gank me, or killsteal my mobs, or ninja my mining node?". The feeling of cooperation and inclusiveness is what is different, not the graphics, or spells, or the fact it uses a computer....... I'm not sure really what some people expect to be more different.
There's no reason to grind, in fact it's discouraged. If you stay in one area killing the same thing over and over you'll get crap exp compared to wandering around and interacting with the world in different ways. There is no reason to even level up fast if you don't want. Most games the real reason to level is to power up for PvP, or get to the real challenging content.
This are just people looking for attention, dont waste time explaining how good GW2 is, you dont need to, if you played it you loved it simple the rest didnt played and are here for the lol's .

Even though I agree with your reason for what sets GW2 apart, I also have to look at the past for leasons learned. And when Warhammer originally launched, it too had that same excitement to it, doing the PQs when there were TONS of people everywhere. Sadly though, as time went on, and the people moved to other places, that excitement went with it. Sure, GW2 limits your level in retrospect to the place you are in, so you can help out, but honestly, do you expect a lot of people to be coming back to the lower places alot AFTER they have already done every heart quest, every story quest, and discovered everything they can in that area, left and came back 4 times already before? What will the excitement be like when its just you and 2 other people going into that cave alone?
Thats the only problem I see with GW2 so far to be honest, and from my play style I can see it not being a major issue as long as the WvW keeps the interest for me. But....I can also see it easily turning into another WoW, with starter zones sitting completely idle after a year, and everyone camping out the cities waiting for people to figure out which dungeon they want to run. And that alone would be a serious shame to see happen again.

I do,it will be just like GW1 ,i can install it when im not playing anything else,,i play it couple of days and uninstall it.
