Without reading any comments, a true to the book series Robert Jordan Wheel of Time would be awesome, but it would have to be developed perfectly to be really entertaning...
100% agree. Wheel of TIme would make an awesome MMO.
They would have to make some really clever and revolutionary way of dealing with "weaving" the various elements of saidin and saidar into the various "spells" to make it fit with the books.
Cluck Cluck, Gibber Gibber, My Old Mans A Mushroom
LORD OF THE RINGS!!!! I know its already a mmo but the one turbine made sucks so bad!!!! Needs like AOC top notch graphics with tera combat!! Not there skills though just the combat
DC vs Marvel Universe, so basically a crossover of DCUO and MUO, with different dimensions than shows different artstyle (since comics have many styles, more realistic to cartoon-like) and with a game core focus on reliving past comic events (crisis on infinite earths, death of superman, etc), current dcuo story moves WAY too slow, focus on open world content, instances only for reliving historical events with friends.
And ffs, add more cities than just Gotham and Metropolis, (and central city)
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.
Some of these have already been suggested, but.. my own opinion/thoughts.
Avatar the last Airbender - MMORPG
the four nations of course, but start them out when they were friendly, have the tides turn, and open world pvp against each other. So on, and so fourth for expansions. Allow them basic bending, but make the skills hidden, so they learn them in combat, or a style of *training*.
Harry Potter - MMORPG
There are a lot of possibilities with Harry Potter. You could really even doing an aging system, which might work out really well if you do it right. It would be based on your time in game. Characters would be skill/experienced based. Not just killing things, but literally going to library to search through books. Have small mini-games throughout the game, against other players. For later on, when your character is older, you can either choose, *light* or *dark*, that would be your pvp pretty much.
There are tons of great things and an open world to experience with an HP online. You just need some very creative developers and open minded people. Also having J.K. Rowling be apart of it would definitely add to creativeness.
Feudal Japan - MMORPG (Rurouni Kenshin)
Yea, yea I know there are a ton of them out there. I want real blood, and killing in this MMO. Pretty much take it back when Japan was first with samuari's and getting into gunpowder, the revolution, and even meeting up with England trading. Bring in "actual" assassin, where your job is killing governement officials, or even players. Make actual investigation tough, tracking down people with small clues, and mystery. Use actual fatigue, by that I mean, when its night-time, your character has to sleep. At the same time, if you are being hunted, you can be killed. Pretty much hide most of the time, or if the assassin doesnt, take the right steps, you are able to wake up and start fighting. But if you don't sleep throughout the nite, then your character loses strength, and what-not.
Bring an "actual" Merchant class to the game, by trading, doing dirty tricks of the trade. Perhaps some gambling as a mini-game. Allowed to open an actual shop. Trading between countries. Merchant could be an added feature to an artisan class. Selling your actual goods to players. Have a mini-game of advertising in the town. All sorts of fun stuff. Not just I want to craft this item... loading bar.... done. When I mean craft, I mean have the sword mold, have special materials, hammer sword, heat the metal, ACTUAL crafting. You can screw up on a weapon by not doing it right, or even find a way of making things stronger by doing it differently, perhaps heating the steel longer, or hammerin more times. A lot of possibilities.
I want actual jumping on things, not this little jump bs either, I mean double jumping, martial arts/sword techniques. Jumping from platform to platform to lose the police. Jumping through trees, double image moving techniques. The whole nine yards. SOOO many things you could do now days, that would just throw half of these "normal" mmorpgs in the water.
Pokemon - MMORPG
Yes, everyone has great and many thoughts on the world of pokemon. As you can tell from the Gameboy games, they are popular, even from an adults standpoint. It's not so much the content that is was is attracting, but the gameplay and what you are doing that keeps you addicted. If I am having fun leveling up and catching new pokemon, and adventuring around the world in an MMORPG feeling, and there is a lot of interaction, hell even I would play it lol. I played the GBA pokemon when I was younger, and I mean for hours. Really I don't like cash shops, but if you wanted too, you would be able to make a Cash shop that wouldn't affect gameplay to bad. Really just have like Master balls or something, and extra revives instead of buying them for ingame cash. Just don't put stupid things in their, that you can't get ingame or gives you an edge. Even some cosmetic stuff is fine, as long as you allow ingame trading of the items.
You could even do tournaments during the weekend and weekdays, this would give great community comunications and interaction. Plus it would give players something to do in the game and brag about. Yea, endgame content would be a little tough to come up with, but just don't do it like Bioware did and make it so that everything has its own voice, when it takes you longer to produce new content lol. I love Bioware, but you had to know that was coming.
Gyms, tournaments, and even keep an online profile on their website of your wins/loses, and such. Have a great achievement system, a lot of people love these. A lot of side stuff is always another great thing.
Bleach - MMORPG
I would love to see a bleach, but it would be a tough project to give a different customization for everyones zanpakuto and abilities. You don't want everyone running around in the world with the same abilities and such. Would be kinda cool I guess for the player to design the sword, and the abilities and you would implement them into the game, but it would take a lot of time.
Thanks, hopefully everyone liked everything I said, and the examples I game. If you didn't, well.. I don't care lol, but you can leave your comments.
If the people behind Avatar give out the license to the right people, then I think that would be a game I'd like to play. Or Terranova. Both have factions.
I have so many ideas, but they would be in bad taste or purely bad...
Only decent i dea i had would be taking some black humor and mix it with crazy cartoon style villains, and include open world and any way to kill eachother... Characters would be from any kinda books or comics. Like Cyanide & Happiness guy shooting a guy with octopus sling to an ad on a wall that reads "Child-Away! Now with complete make up!" and a picture of social services taking kids out while parents dance hulahula...
PVP annnd Player housing, you could choose any home or apartment to take over and either keep the real owners as hostages, slaves, or hatracks. Windows would be breakable, except for one satanic glass fresko that is in teen rebellion years, and chooses to defy common laws of physics. Pets would be included too, you would most likely steal a kitten from some little kid and name him/her Destroyer Of The Universe, and then launch it with a KittyZooka. Walls are also destroyable, so are floors, but you die if you destroy to floor under yourslef because of FurniKarma.
When you die, instead of being a ghost you wake up on an island right next to a wreckt plane, only way out is to find either Batman, Superman, Bananaman, or The Thong. The secret way out would be ordering pizza with cheeseburgers.
You would get money from stealing or earning it-by killing. There wouldn't be that many shops, since newbs would kamikaze within them exploding the shop and customers inside for quick EXP.
Harry Potter would make a horrible MMO. Sorry I just don't think it would make a good MMO. Me personally Terminator as a MMOFPS would make an awesome MMO if done right. Dragonlance also would make a great MMO actually suprised they haven't done this one yet.
Stormlight Archives Series. It would have the best money, economy, and classes ever seen. Surgebinders, Stormbinders, Shardbearers, Spren, Artificers, Soulcasting... The different types of Radiants... It would be too good. Awesome world pvp potential with Chasm fiends and high storms, or capturable shardplate for your nation. Holy shit. It would be beyond amazing.
As others have said - Elric of Melnibonr would be good, though I wouldn't mind either an eternal champion wide MMORPG or even just a Hawkmoon setting one - playing a masked Granbreton would be pretty interesting.
Beyond that - Ravenloft would be awesome (forget the d&d system, just the setting).
honestly, i cannot think of any. All those movies and books that i think would make a great MMO is already an MMO--star wars and lord of the rings. But what i am certain is that Twilight will make a terrible, terrible MMO. Same as harry potter.
honestly, i cannot think of any. All those movies and books that i think would make a great MMO is already an MMO--star wars and lord of the rings. But what i am certain is that Twilight will make a terrible, terrible MMO. Same as harry potter.
I dunno, I think Potter's got potential. Maybe if they didn't focus on Harry's legacy. There is plenty of lore predating Harry and Voldy, tons of races and species, and let's face it, the environmental possibilites in the world of wizardry are endless. I think I'd really enjoy a Harry Potter mmo that didn't focus on Harry and Voldemort. Maybe they could be introduced in later expansions but the main focus would be on the world itself.
Another awesome feature would be the ability to travel inbetween the muggle and wizard world! Hell, you could even play a mudblood or a muggle and start out in the muggle world. Then you could have WvW between muggles and mythical races! I could go on and on. It would just have to be imaginative, innovative and functional and I think there's room for real success.
And I lol'd at Twilight mmo.
#TeamVainlash Why did Marceline's dad eat her fries? I mean...cause she bought them and they were hers...
I recently caught an anime called Upotte!, but besides being full of gun facts - it's kinda lame.
Though, it has an interesting aesthetic that could work good in a game format. See, the girls in the show ARE the guns they use... I had a hard time wrapping that around my brain, but in essence, they are the personification of the guns themselves. Their habits and general hiccups are shown in their personalities, but the most interesting factor is that when their gun jams in battle (or something else) it shows as a physical manifestation in the person themselves.
Mechanically, this would mean that during a match in-game, getting shot in the ass would wreck the gun stock, or a jam in the chamber would be like constipation (lol, or something similar), busted teeth leading to a magazine jam, those kinds of things. It's very interesting to think about where that can go, and how that effects battle-aptitude. Even module swap-outs had changes made to the characters' visual looks, like the girl personifying a AUG Steyr having long/short hair based on a barrel change.

MOUNT & BLADE! Though it's not a movie, I guess you could throw it in the realm of a Braveheart (Middle Age technology) MMO.
I'd love to see an MMO that removed magic swords and robed folks throwing ice bolts at you. Imagine a sandbox MMO that was based on the incredibly addictive world of Mount and Blade: Warband. Things like housing, crafting, player economies, faction changing, and not limited to a certain type of weapon (*shakes fist at swtor*) are all possible.
For those not familiar with M&B, it's pretty much the idea of being an individual warrior/mercenary/soldier in huge battles like you'd see in Rome, Shogun, or Medieval: Total War. You make a character, decide what city you want to be dropped in, and then the world is at your disposal.
Heck, if you didn't even want to side with any the factions, you could sack villages and make a career as a bandit or sea raider. It would make player bounty implementations almost a much have.

Thinking of Battle Royale, Hunger Games & Avatar (both Aang and Korra)
If the people behind Avatar give out the license to the right people, then I think that would be a game I'd like to play. Or Terranova. Both have factions.
Dreamers of Dune MMO
Which would be based on Frank Herbert's fictional universe that already has many factions, many habitable planets, and a whole universe to get lost in.
It could be based after God Empereor of Dune during the scattering.A whole sandbox universe.
Maybe this has been suggested already, just a thought.

O yea I think Pokeman would make a great MMO if done right.
I think I would either do Conan, Lord of the Rings, or Star Wars. That would be pretty sweet.
Bunnies and Burrows/Watership Down.
It's already got a tapletop RPG that's been well-recieved.
It could be the realistic, gearless, skill based sandbox a lot of people are begging for these days.
The Wayson Harris series, great books if you look them up. http://www.sadsamspalace.com/Scifi/scifiIndex.html
Brian Lumley's Necroscope world. Gritty, dark and the vampires are crazy.

Hmm... I'd just make something based on either Greek myth, or Arthurian legend, like Dark Age of Camelot.
Or do a proper Lord of the Rings MMO (sandbox).
