That has zero impact on your bandwidth.

Graphics lag is not the same thing as latency, and your FPS isn't effected by your internet connection.  Turning down your graphics isn't going to increase your ping.

Something tells me you got some stuff wrong in your OP as well, after reading that responce.  It shouldn't take 6 weeks of 24/7 downloading, even with dial-up.

Wouldn't one month of downloading at 256kb/s come to something like 1,000+ gb?

Well, partly is because of my limited bandwidth. I can download 5 gigs a day on the plan I'm on, and then it becomes REALLY slow. Its a cheap a** internet.

In any case...it is kind of a pain (gas milage) driving 45 min to an hour (depending on traffic) to my friend's place, so it isn't that easy to do so.  But, at least I would have proper internet. I may keep my new desktop at his place, and keep my current one here out in the desert.

But yeah, the problem of no disk is solved...just will download the game in the city. Heck, now that I think of it...coffee shops probably have better internet, lol.

Even at release.

I really want to play GW2, but why does everything keep going digital? What happened to going to a store and buying it in an awesome looking box and dvds? The only games left like that are console games.

A big shame too, since GW2 is shaping up to be a great MMO and it looks awesome. But why no love for people with weaker internet :( Why do I have to download spyware (steam) or some other spyware download manager? I want a box, and I want a dvd to come with it!

Anyone else agree? Anyone else in the same predicement?

Well, there is a reason I don't live in an overly expensive city, and live in a much more affordable place. ;) Hence why I can't really move easily at all.

But, since I do have friend(s) in the city, like I said, the problem of slow internet/download isn't a problem anymore. At least for me.

Sounds like you are attempting to justify your inability to use the Steam service.

Well, I DO use Steam if I have to. Like I did for Skyrim. I do try to avoid it, though. But, eventually, I'm sure everything will be going download.

Your worries should fall elsewhere. Run a speedtest or speakeasy test to find your download speed.

Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.
    Playing - PS2, AoW, GW2

That still doesn't make any sense.

If you can do 5gb a DAY it shouldn't take you a month and a half.

I'm just curious, but what is the speed of say a mobile 3g service?  Do you have 3g service in your area, and would it be faster to get 3g mobile service and then tether your pc to it?  I have to believe that 3g is much faster then dial-up or satelite.  My brother-in-law uses a tether service for his iPhone at his house instead of paying twice as much for broadband, and it works great.  I can stream movies on my iPad while at his place, using his iPhone for internet connection; with no more buffering then I would get at home over fiber.

In any case...I'll be playing a Charr Engineer. I really enjoyed the tactition in Asheron's Call 2...and it played a bit similar.

If the bandwidth runs out, it slows WAY down. So, that may have played a part in the "estimated" download time. It still felt rather slow. And yes, I do actually have a 3g service in the area...it isn't used too much here, but it is actually available. That might be worth a try.
