Questing: How do you play this game?

kartanakartana Member UncommonPosts: 148

Ok, please tell me how to play this game? Lol!
You can only have one main quest but there are so many along the way. Do you always finish the main quests first so you can pick up the next one immediately? I'm a bit overwhelmed atm. The WoW etc quest log spoiled me.

You could have one main quest (which is a story line quest), along the way you can pick up other quests(those are all side quests or separate quests as you wish to call them). You could have as many quests as you want basically.

If I recall offhand, you can have 1 investigation mission and three side missions in addition to the main story line. Just avoid stuff that says you'll abandon the current quest if you pick up the new one, until all slots (on the right side of your screen) are filled with quests.

The quests confuse me at times.  I get that you're supposed to follow one quest and pick up others as you go along, but it still seems like I'm often left without any quests, having to run back to any given quest hub to pick up more.

only other MMO I can ever remember this question asked is EVE and never once for a themepark.. makes me happy:)

as for the OP question you really play it how you want. Best part about it is there really isn't a wrong way to go about doing quests

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

If I ever run out of quests or don't feel like doing the ones I have, I just start running around exploring and looking for Lores.  I always end up finding a number of hidden quests on some corpse or dropped note or cell phone or piece of paper.

The problem I have is this. At the first station/camp you have to get some supplies. There are 2 or 3 other guys in the station that have quests that say 'you will abandon your current quest blah'... ok so I know where those guys are. I'll come back. On the way to my current main quest (supplies) I find 2 other guys that have quests that say 'abandon current...'. How do I find those people again? As I said, I'm a bit overwhelmed atm. Lol.

Throw away your "I must do all quests" mentality :P  You do not need to and probably will not complete all of an areas quests your first play through the game.  This allows variety if you choose to play another character.

Complete the quest(s) you have, its usually a chain that will give you more quests as you go.  When you finally turn in that quest, theres usually another nearby you can pick up and start on that one.

I agree with this, had to set down what I know about quest/missions in TSW. Instead of filling up a checklist and marking them off as you go down. Slow down, take in the sites, explore, climb to a roof top, jump on top of some dumpsters... head shot, incinerate, or cuisinart some zombies. :)

There is no rush to max level or rush to anything. The game is complex and can actually slow you down the more you try to outpace it. (I mean learning the skill combination/synergy/flexibility system) It wants to immerse you, even scare you, let it .

You can have one blue (main), and up to 3 of the red or "side" quest (light green). Its more enjoyable to just play the game as it leads you. Further on you will notice that many of the missions finish or drop you off at another area with more to pick from.

The mission/quest system is definitely one of the better or perhaps the best I have seen to date on a MMORPG. Sure you have the kill X kind. You also have mysterious follow the ravens, solve vague even difficult riddles (assuming you don't spoil it on your Internet search), or climb around boxes and infrared detectors like Sam Fisher. The dialog is compelling, smart, and humorous.

Also I would not think of it as backtracking over areas. It is from one perspective, but in another you are solving a string of puzzles, unfolding a greater plotline. Like a Twin Peaks or X-files season. This is so far an enjoyable/playable RPG shared with other people.

    Absolutely not.

OP, you need to complete as many quests as you can simply due to the fact that quests give you the best XP and XP = SP and AP.

Finish the missions one at a time. The little pick up quests you find along the way, the ones you can have 3 of, are usually quick and can be completed alongside the main mission. The characters that give them are clearly marked on the map so you don't have to worry about forgetting about them. Also, if you have to skip one of those pick up quests, you can place a marker on the map and come back to it later.

It's a bit annoying that you can only have 1 mission at a time but that's how the game is set up. You'll get used to it.

I just kind of let the game take me wherever it takes me.

Yeah some times ill pause a mission to take one that looks more interesting.

If im in the situation where i just finished a storyline/major quest/investigation ill just sart doing one of the grey quests in my journal and let it lead me to another npc.

Its a very natural feeling to just let the game guide you...its not linear like quest hubs you just do what looks good and do it untill the end, then make a choice once done on what to do next.

It doesnt take long to break your mmorpg conditioning that you MUST have every quest you see for maximum area clearing ect.

Also, i realize that ill eventually want to start new weapons and new decks, if i miss some stuff so what, ill come back when i start hamemrs and blood magic i think.

Nearly cleared Kingsmouth and almost done with most of SC...thinking about leaving something for later.

There is a very good post on the blog of a game designer. I just cant remember the URL.

Basically forget about any MMO. There are no quest hubs. Get a quest and finish it. There should be another quest within 50m.  Follow them criss-cross over the map.

The game is very flat. Means a large chunk of the game is good for early gameplay and late gameplay. As in: youll get xp in older zones too. The zones arent that linear then in other games.

    Hope that helps a bit.

I cant recall ever runnng out of quests to do LOL.. There are so many quests around nearly in every area you go there is a new quest to pick up...

I actually like this system. In other games I have over 20 quests and it gets a bit confusing.

Here I ensure I complete each every quest. Sometimes you find a quest around the area you have just completed your current one and then it chains on from there.

I have my main story quest and at somepoint in Kingsmouth it said that I should wait before i continue with it and that the Templar will tell when I should conitnue, I waited and was told nothing so I started doing it again, at Tier 10 now.

I felt a bit lost after being told not to continue with the quest and made my own way to the Savage Coast.  I am still waiting to hear from the Templar but nothing....................

Also heard about a Faction Quest, is that the same as Main story quest?

I love the limited quest system, it succeeds in immersing you in to the story of that quest, you aren't mindlessly going through a bloated quest log and ignoring the lore, works incredibly well in making the world feel like one.

Most missions will finish near other missions, have a look around when you make that call, there's usually something else nearby.

You can only have 1 Blue quest at a time this is a long term story quest.

You can only have 1 brown quest at a time this is a story quest with several tiers.  You complete these quests in turn and  pick up the next from various NPC's around the place.

You can only have 3 Grey quests at a time this can be found around the place so keep your eyes open.

You can only have 1 dungeon quest at a time to be seen through to completion.

You can create waypoints or markers on your zone map, so you can always mark quests that you'd want to come back to at some point. I use map marks extensively, it's very handy if you find a particular quest that you may want to repeat later. I tag the "quick and easy" green quests for repeats, it's a good way to get extra vendor tokens.

Generally, there is always another quest in the area where you finish a "main" quest. It may not be lit up with a giant neon arrow, but if you sniff around for a few minutes you'll probably find it.

There are also a few green quests in Kingsmouth in really out-of-the-way places. Those you will only find if you are an enthusiastic explorer. Or if you google them (yawn)...

The zones are not massive, so it's no biggie to backtrack to a previously marked quest location. And once you get your first faction rank, you can buy a Mobility upgrade (costs 100K) from the vendor in your faction HQ to gain an extra 65% sprint speed. This is pretty much a "must have", unless you're a truly dedicated RP'er and actually walk everywhere ingame.

Edited: saw the other post explaining exactly how it works. I still think its somewhat silly but its not as bad as it seems at first glance.
