Music in MMos put in some known bands....its time

@ intensity to the game or level your on.

example: world in conflict :shawdow on man that pumped me up for that level

gears of war : mad world and mazzy dust

cod had multiple like along the watch tower that was great

medal of honor had linkin park cataylyst

just a few I can think of off the top of my head just tired of all the flute or mario bros music in the mmo every min.

Yes I know I can listen to music and play the mmo but it adds that something into games when its built in.

Also I know that this is not a big thing on players and dev minds but admit it playing kill switch engage in a

dynamic event for gw2 would be epic.....

can you think of others I missed ....

Brand name artists sounds like another way for studios to spent huge amounts of money without actually improving gameplay.

Well honestly swtor had not one music artist I know in it and they spent 30gig on nothing......If a mmo is good its good thats the truth , I know its not the top proirity but come on you wouldnt want a killer song from a band you like playing as your soloing a nm or group play at the final boss ...be pretty tough.....admit it

(I should say that I do enjoy ambient music in games ... I'd just like to see more experiments with procedurally created themes)

Personally I'd prefer they continue to use unknowns and independents. Give the hungry another channel to stardom.

'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

When your head is stuck in the sand, your ass becomes the only recognizable part of you.

No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

    Depends on the MMO.

Music by known bands would work for example in The Secret World or APB, maybe also in some sci-fi MMOs (but keep anything that isn't a John Williams soundalike out of anything star wars related), but the only way I'd see it working in fantasy based MMOs would be if it's either something like Rhapsody or Enya (wow, talk about extremes), and even then I'd rather keep it epic orchestral music (well, Enya I could accept for some specific moments but not all the time).

What can men do against such reckless hate?

heres what I am talking about this was epic in the game i was glued to the game after this ...Did it make game play better no

but certainly didnt hurt and when you get bored in a game sometimes little things like this kick it to gear again

Or allow the player to change the soundtrack of the game, so for example instead of the game's regular battle music you listen to what you want. Different playlist while exploring, fighting, crafting whatever. Problem solved.

But guild wars 2 already allows this...and not everyone likes metal, rock, pop, hip hop, rap, nu metal, country, or whatever else people want to hear while playing the game.  MMOs can just put music in that fits the mood they want for their game.

...and no, Killswitch Engage would NOT be epic dynamic event music.  That is just your personal opinion, and is based on your subjective taste in music.

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

Well you can do that in Guild Wars 2. Create a playlist on your favorite media player, save it inside your music folder with a "proper" name and there you go, your favorite music while you play. For example naming a playlist MainMenu will allow the game to play that playlist instead of the regular main menu music. There are only 7 playlists currently but it is a good system and they might expand it more. Unfortunately you can't let your group listen to your music

I do like killswitch engage end of a heartache ..Id admit  that but I love all music to a certain point you could always turn off the music ingame and put back on the Mario Brothers would that solve it for you...Give the option ....You make a very valid point but if you had a  option of ambient music like we have now or known or indie bands playing we could agree on that...

I guess it depends on taste. I heard some of the songs you mentioned and linked, and while they are good music, TBH I'd rather have epic orchestral (and choral if possible) music when paired with fantasy settings, of course, except when it's apropiate (it could work within a mixed sci-fi/fantasy setting like on the final fantasy games, though). I guess it's because I tend to see fantasy as a whole new world, listening to modern music tends to break the mood for me (YMMV)

At least in my head, when I picture epic music, I think of something like these:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onGWF8mz1Zw#t=2m12s

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4o0X4H-pCQ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rXIyz8HSJQ (I know I'm gonna get lot of flak for this one.. :) )

I never would of known that if you hadn't told me thanks for the info Seridan......

Didn't The Chronicles of Spellborn have music by Within Temptation or something?

<childish, provocative and highly speculative banner about your favorite game goes here>

GW2 is doing exactly that, giving you the option to put whatever indie or known band you want, you create a playlist setting music for things like boss fights, combat, exploration and the like, and the game plays your music when appropiate... :)

Every game you listed is a FPS....
Why the hell would I want to be playing a Fantasy game in a really beautiful forest with Killswitch blazing in the background?
    Known artists would kill immersion.
Not to mention I pretty much hate every band you mentioned, no offense haha
