And I Just bought a digital collectors edition of Tera. So far, I am really enjoying the game. The combat is a blast (and I just said that about an mmomis mind-boggling)and I enjoy seeing the world...it's so beautiful! Exploration is fun again!
Seriously, if you have not tried it, I highly recommend the trial. What's the worst that can happen, you hate it? Pfft, then you just don't buy it:-)
Thanks to Dark Pony for his Tera trial blog.....I didn't even know they had a trial until I saw that.
I have to go play now. Will post more as I get further in...a lvl 12 warrior now.

Did try the Beta but not the trial.
All things considered I am thinking to wait a while 6-12 months to see if this goes F2P
Glad you enjoyed it. I would recommend that if you do go w/ a 7day trial you get passed the teens, though. Try and get a character at least to the mid 20s, as that will basically give you a feel for how the game will be as a majority. Also try and do some grouping / dungeons if you can. They are a pretty big part of the game.
Tried it, not buying. Uninstalled with 4 days left on trial. Level 18 warrior, 15 archer, 12 mystic, 8 lancer.
Basically Vindictus combat with generic korean grinder quests and skill system. Art style is in your face tits and ass, seemed a bit much. I guess if you haven't played vindictus the combat will seem fresh, or if you haven't played any other mmorpg the quest and skill system could seem fresh?
Not allowing the trials to use chat system was a wise decision, bout the most innovative thing I noticed while playing. What I did notice from reading chat was the classes are pretty imbalanced (PvP server), with warriors and priests being top teir and beserkers at shit teir (easy to kite). Sounded like the upcoming korean -> west patch will give some class balancing, making warriors more legit as a tank.
The PvP is a griefers dream. There were max level players camping the level 13 newb area 1-shotting ppl. There was a bridge heading out of Lumbertown? that new players have to cross to get out and start their quests, but these griefers (clan name "Toll Collectors") were saying in chat "Pay toll or die". There are multiple channels to escape this nonsense, but it is a sad state of affairs I witnessed.
Chat is much friendlier and helpful on the PvE servers, less class-elitism. I did read that lancers (best tank class) would routinely kick berserkers from endgame dungeon groups to keep the platemail competition monopolized. I heard this practice was common on both servers- whereas the pvp server they laughed it off, and the pve server they consider such a lancer to be a jerk.
Making an alt was a painful experience, repeating exact same footsteps. Boring quickly.
I played the trail and I am impressed. I will buy it. Combat is really a blast.
Quests are boring but even killing same mob 10 times is with this combat system fun.
Thx dark pony for the blog
Same here...
I think in general TERA is a good MMO, but not worth the box-purchase or subscription as it's charged now. Lets see what time will bring and if it goes F2P with a reasonable (no game-breaking) cash-shop, I'll pick it up.
I enjoyed the combat but it seems like everything else got no effort, every mob on the starter island pretty much has the same skin and only there names differ eg. "tree man" "elder tree man" Really elder tree man".
The questing was OK but half of the NPC's don't even have fluff dialogue that they say when you click on them, going back to just click, read, accept with 0 sound from the quest giver was miserable. I don't want cutscenes like TOR but I'd at least like my quest givers not to be mutes.
Add this to the fact that frogster have destroyed the EU version of the game, it seems like it's pointless even buying it as it will inevitably go free at least in the EU since the population must have hit rock bottom now.
I tried it and bought it after the second day of trial. Seems more fun than TOR right now and it gets much better around 20 imo. To each their own though...
Tried it, liked it, bought the box > getting to 60 in the free month, aiming at subbing via chronoscrolls (or quitting from boredom, whatever comes first).
IMO, way worth the box price, but not a sub for what is. We'll see how long I last, I guess.

So far, I am in agreement. Is fun, but you cannot reroll for a new experience, as each new toon undergoes the exact same startup process. I think I will change my sub, or cancel and finish out my time. Interested in TSW, simply because it sounds completely different.

I've learned to drown out any overly-positive reviews coming from the TSW or GW2 camps.
I think that they are all so enamored with the setting and themes (in TSW's case) that they are willing to overlook combat they damned well know is trite. Even GW2 has it's faults, but at least it is a game you can come back to without dropping money down all over again (though, most of it's hype is based on that fact, any not necessarily on how *good* it is). Both are going to run out of steam at some point, Tera will too.
~though, Tera's combat has spoiled me, perhaps. If the game only strayed from ancient questing methods it would be a sleeper hit. Then again, it's a Korean game - and that's enough to make lots of people stay far away from it. Sad.

Apart from the comabat its a step backwards in game play...

Recommend you try Dragon's Dogma, if you have a console. If that game was an MMORPG, I'd be happy as a pig in shite. The only thing better than being able to fight BAMs is being able to jump on their back and hack off limbs, cutting out eyes and hanging on for dear life as they rampage around the room or take to the skies and try to fly away....really, I see no reason why we cannot have this kind of combat in an mmorpg!

Don't own a console anymore, not about to buy one for any game in particular. Capcom just needs to stop fucking around anyway, because DD's pawn system will die once the service for it goes under in a year or two. On PC it could last a much longer time, if not indefinitely through some interesting maneauvers involving cloud computing.
~but yeah, I would eat a hole through the back of my head for anything similar to SotC platforming and BAMs.

But the combat is really great. I hope furture MMORPGs will all have combat like this.I can't enjoy the old combat system anymore.
I think in the end this will be a f2p title. Much like Aion is now. I will play it then.
I tried the 7-day Trail (still got 5 days left) mainly because i was interested in the combat mechanics of the game and they are fun i must say. I have played too much linear questing games and get bored with them too quickly. When somebody's last game was WoW and they still enjoy this type of game i think Tera will be a nice combat change for them. Graphics are nice, but i don't get immersed into the world. Personally it's not worth a subscription fee.
