Eventually people will realise if they stad there and spam buttons it equals death. Hmmm maybe I shouldn't just stand here, maybe I should try moving. Aaahhhhh that works much better and is more fun as well. I beta weekend or two isn't enough to break year's old habits. Give it time....
Trust me when I say there are people who just aren't capable. In a typical MMO they have gear to fall back on to make up for their skill dificiencies so they don't recognize that they are dificient. That won't be the case in GW2.

I could be ignorant to this fact. I'm the guy in a mmo strafing and circling when it doesn't make a difference just because it makes sense in a combat situation and is more fun than standing there. Reminds me of that south park episode, you like fishsticks, just get it man.... lol

Well at the risk of being stereotypical, there are people who consistently gravitate to the classes in other MMO's that typically don't require a lot of skill to play.
Getting back to the OP's post, I made a similar post several months ago (here) asking basically the same thing. During the BWE's I saw a lot of players trying to approach combat in GW2 the same way they do in other MMO's (stand there and keep hitting buttons until the mob is dead). Some players just don't possess the skill level to handle moving and attacking and/or dodging all at the same time. GW2 won't be kind to them, but a big concern is whether or not the devs will dumb down the game so even a child could handle it. Fortunately there's no subscription fees so Anet won't have constant pressure to keep the game "accessible" to players of all skill levels, which ultimately leads to nerfing the content.
I wouldn't say that it's a skill level thing for many people. It's a mindset thing.
We stopped thinking about things like kiting, reverse kiting (that's a thing, look it up, it was awesome once), positioning, etc. We (the MMO gaming community in general) got used to "engage mob, roll face, win" while levelling. I'm hoping this game encourages people to break out of that mindset, and then that in turn encourages more developers to build combat that's more alive.
Whats everyone's thoughts on this? Will it force the "unskilled" players out of the game?
Ask yourself; did lack of skills ever force you out of a game?
Of course it didn't. The only part of the game that really changes is how much time players spend on insulting each other.
It does grow worse as the game exits "everyone's a newbie" stage and the "I am mad pro yo" guys start thumping their chests in public, yus. Chest-thumping generally requires Trophies to show off, though, so your slippery slope surmise about the effect of gear may actually be reversed.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Let me start off by saying im looking forward to a skill based game. No more hearing "you suck baddie, your geared out". But I was wondering how the unskilled population (probably 35%) would take the game.

In my experience GW2 is designed almost exclusively for unskilled players. At least where PvE is concerned. Every boss is just a massive zerg and everybody "wins" and gets the same reward regardless of how bad they suck - i mean, you can just run up to the event, go afk and you still win. So unskilled players will be very happy with it.
I don't PvP, so i can't really comment on that.

Trust me when I say there are people who just aren't capable.
Sorry, I don't.
I've met quite a bit of players who lacked skills in my life, none of them were serious about getting any skill.
The other side to that are people new to video games or certain genres. For instance, my first DotA game was a pretty steep climb for me because I haven't played one before. Heck, it was a steep climb for all our friends. And initially looking at us, you'd probably think we're one of those players you consider permanently not capable, but that is not the case, and we learned how to play eventually. It just takes far longer for someone unfamiliar with a certain style.
I feel the MMO thing is similar. Keyboard tuners and clickers are probably used to games that are played that way, that's all.
You don't have to go "omg ur a baddie get good you're nothing". But you can offer suggestions on what to do - you know, if you're actually a skilled PVPer.
Which I doubt, since you probably haven't even held a hall in 1.

I presume you exclude yourself from that statement. And obviously, there must be some other exceptions as well by definition.

If you just go afk you get no reward from an event, you need to actively participate. Also, if most players in an event suck you will fail, the thing is if you are the only one that's horrible out of 20 people then you will win, simple math.

I dunno if I can exclude myself since this guy seems to be of the sort to believe only people who are #1 are skilled at all and assume everyone he's talking to is "unskilled". What I actually am I rather irrelevant.
Exceptions tend to be rare enough to not warrant being mentioned by the poster I'm responding to. He seems to be implying it's some sort of a plague on gaming, which means these people are in large numbers, and that's just nonsensical.

Why not be honest with the unskilled players?
