I wonder how many hours of actual in-game content this works out to be. If it's a reasonable amount, and I guess that depends on each person's interpretation, these monthly installments could keep the game feeling fresh AND demonstrate that the development team was actually doing something to justify a monthly sub.
Active and frequent post-launch content delivery will be critical in retention. I'd hope for about 8-10 hours of content per month be it in missions, a dungeon, a raid, expanded PvP maps or a mix.
"Loading screens" are not "instances". Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.
I'd guess it's only about 3-6 hours of content. Then again.. it could be loads more. But 5 hours extra content before the game has even been out a month? No way people can complain about that. The wording in the article also suggests the august update is going to be much much bigger.
First MMO in a long time that I'm pretty sure I will be subbing at least past the first month. When the August update lands I'll decide with if it's worth subbing along with playing GW2.
I know this for certain though, once I'm burnt out on GW2 I'll be heading straight back to TSW even if I don't keep subbing for now.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
This looks really awesome! I hope they can keep it up!
But I'm going to be "that guy". You know the one. I'm just going to say it.
This is content that was left out of the original game to be added later. Pretty obvious. The second "issue" will probally be the same. It gives them time to make actual "new" content for the game.
As you can tell by my XFire Sig, I'm am really enjoying the game, but it is what it is.
Bartoni's Law definition: As an Internet discussion grows volatile, the probability of a comparison involving Donald Trump approaches 1.
The thing is though, didn't Rangar say something about how they're not going to tell us all of what missions they're going to add during the Issues? There were some item quests and other quests that were in the Beta that didn't make it to live yet. I wonder if they'll throw those in with Issue #1 but not specifically state that they are doing as such.
This looks really awesome! I hope they can keep it up!

This has already been answered by Joel and Ragnar on the forums. This is NOT content that they "held back". There were a lot of bugs for the AH and the two nightmare dungeons that they had to fix and the new quests were never even on the Testlive or Beta servers. Joel actually stated that the first incaration of the AH (Which was only added on the Testlive servers for 3 or so weeks before release anyway.) had 500 bugs, 100 of them which were game breaking including a Pax exploit.
Really years of MMO's failures made me suspicious about many things. So in this case i am thinking 3 situations
a) Either they didnt sold many copies and they adding content to attract more ppl
b) Either they rush to release and they filling the game now
c)Either they really suporting the game with new content
I have to admit that i wanted to try this game mainly couse of the concept but after the beta i decided not to, mainly of the combat dissapointment but...
I really hope that is the c) situation here to reverse some of the negativity.
I am not flaming the game just telling what i am thinking and as always time will reveal everything.
Have fun if you decided to play this game and lets hope that you wont feel cheated again.

OK I'll take their word for it. I mean, why would they lie?
Only time will tell.

The better question is why the hell would they hold anything back that would make their game better? Especially something like the Tradepost which has been used as a mark against the game in certain reviews. There is no reason for them to have held back the dungeons, which were only in Test Live for a little while and had widely reported bugs, or the Tradepost. As for the missions, there is no way they were held back seeing as they were never on Testlive in the first place. There were other missions that were on Testlive that were not in at launch so if they were honestly holding back missions I would think those missions would be the ones being added in.
Honestly, the biggest issue with the TSW community is that the game pulls in conspiracy theorists who believe everything is a conspiricy.
If any of those missions would have been in closed beta i'd see an actual reason for being suspicious, which wasn't the case. Just as they have had tradepost in an dout in beta, bbut under continuous fixes and corrections.
The talks of being working on severl of the upcoming "issues" while they are mainly focused on the first one would be a death sentence for FC if they actually didn't have the intention to do so, as a couple months of subscriptions is nothing in front of a hell unleashed from them not delivering what they are so strongly stating.
This looks really awesome! I hope they can keep it up!

I'm not looking for a fight here. I'm just stating what is a common practice in gaming. I may be wrong about this one. I REALLY hope I am.
I do like your last sentence! That is what makes TSW so real. I actually know about all the CT stuff they have in the game. I don't believe any of it, but I have read about it. "It's what puts the Magic in the Magic bullet." I thought that was funny as hell! Because the "magic bullet" was not that at all. The only thing "magical" about that is the rote quoting of a fictional movie as fact. But I digress.
Bartoni's Law definition: As an Internet discussion grows volatile, the probability of a comparison involving Donald Trump approaches 1.

If they keep adding cool stuff and announcing it in this manner...
with new cover images...I may just give the game a go myself. Depends on if they can fix the animations, bugs, and combat. Otherwise, I hope they keep going...we need games like this in the genre to show that they don't all have to be the same. Also, it would be so very cool if they could incorporate some cities like Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, Berlin, Calcutta, Prague, etc, etc, and get this, add augmented reality goggles that allow players to enteract with the real world and see objects and creatures via the goggles and enter act with them...in the real world. Use GPS coordinates and have things occur for that location in the real world. How cool would that be? You could be in Pikes Market. You trigger an event at the Market. It sends you on a quest to find a lost object. When you get to the location you must fight a demon that is projected into the goggles - only you and others playing can see the demon. There would have to be some kind of control for you to do this...maybe using your smartphone as a controller...but it could be done and that would make the Secret World truly a unique and awesome killer game.

I dunno combat and animations isnt a complaint in game, its not as bad as people make it out to be. Yeah some of the videos on youtube highlight the worst aspects.
Honestly i think the animation problem is restricted to a few schools of combat and a few skills within them. There are odd looking animations, its just you can have a build that doesnt include them..seems to be mostly in the magic schools imo.
My pistol/shotgun build has great animations, as does my assualt rifle and blood magic...however theres a few skills in there that look goofy...
Had this been a game made by someone else other than funcom i dont think anyone would care honestly, since the mechanics and content are so fun.

I've watched my share of this game on Twitch TV. I think the combat needs a lot of work and the animations as well. You and others may think they are OK, but in my opinion, for a game released in 2012 - they are lacking and un-inspired. Plus the MOBS, need some serious work - and why do they just cut and paste the same mobs all over Kingsmouth? I call that lazy. I'll play the game when it is finished or at least when it is better than it is now - maybe. Depends on what I am playing in the future and if I'll even care then. ::shrugs::
I wonder what QL the stuff will be set for? Would be kind of nice if it was for higher sets to give reason for those folks to spend time in the zone. Plenty for lower ones already anyways. Guess we'll have to see.

Well if you were playing you would know why the mobs in kingsmouth were zombie townies. This isnt a game where your going to have 100 diffrent random mob types pepperd across the world with a kill/drop quest for each type. The game has specific mobs in specific areas for a reason.
Yeah i agree that combat is a very objective subject, whats appealing in a game for some and whats fun for some might not be for others. Ive played some games with some incredibly boring and uninspired combat, oddly enough no one complained for those games.
I just think the combat mechanics are underrated in this game, given most who dont play hate the mechanics. Yeah the animations are not over the top flashy, and i guess that makes character animations in combat more visable which probably doesnt help....but like i said, there are some animations that do need work, some are absolutely fine...i dont need a multi colord flash when i draw out my shotgun with one hand and fire a blast. Or all sorts of sparkles and colors when i cross my pistols and go into automatic fire mode. The elementalism i think is the worst in the animation department, and thats what i usually see on twitch.

I think fists has the lamest animations. I mean it has next to nothing. Certainly don't expect any dazzling animations but really for the most part it is about as simplistic as you can get.

It is the same sets of zombies. It's like they cut and pasted the same set over and over again. Plus they always attack the same way. They need to change this up a lot. If the combat is to repetaive and the MOB's are as they are - it makes it feel un-inspired. The same way I felt when beta testing SWTOR. They just need to change the AI's up a bit and put in some other zombie models scattered about the place. I don't think that is too much of a request.

Glad there adding a lot to soloman Island's. That was one of my favorite zones right behind egypts.

I think fists has the lamest animations. I mean it has next to nothing. Certainly don't expect any dazzling animations but really for the most part it is about as simplistic as you can get.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
