If you've bought a version of Guild Wars 2 from anywhere other than this list of retailers there's a good chance your key will be blocked from accessing the game in any way whatsoever. This just happened to me and alot of others. Sadly you can only see the thread on their forums which are only accessible to those with game accounts - for those which can access it here's the thread https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/support/account/Error-122-Issues/page/1

I'm sorry but the only one saying anything about the second coming is you. Fans of a game accept its flaws and strengths.
I preordered from Amazon, they are not on the list but I am *not* being blocked

Wow the sense of entitlement, you are given a set of parameters and cry when you overstep them and are penalized... someone really thinks they have more of a say than the company themselves whom they want to distribute with?
The world is being ruined by a generation of individuals who think the world revolves around them.
Yeah people talked about this and were warned.
Don't be surprised.
Ya i'm willing to bet it was actually a Beta key or something these retailers were selling. Sounds like Anet is saying they aren't blocking keys but people are buying fake keys.
I read this as if you didnt pay full price for the game you most likely got scammed and dont come crying to us since we posted a list of reputable sellers
I think we should all remember that beta is not a privilege, it's a courtesy we extend to companies. We spend our time to test their games for free. At some point in time it got reversed, now all of a sudden beta testing is a privilege.
I'm also in this boat and admittedly did get it slightly cheaper than the full price on their site but only by £3-4 - nothing spectacular! I'm yet to know of any major case where people pick up slightly discounted preorders and getting them blocked. Infact the majority of retailers often do small deals to get ahead of competitors so your preorder lies with them, that's basic marketplace competition.
This is for the full game also mate, not just the beta.
it makes sense though, as the sellers are not "offically supported" they can not prove the keys are real keys. much like people create keygens for games installers it might not be too hard to make "spoofed" keys for this too.
so in that mind set people buying from non-listed retailers might very well be buying fake keys and so screwing them selves
then again anet might be screwing them.. its hard to say... ideally its best/safer to buy from the offical supported sellers to protect one's self..
I don't understand it either.

Philosophy of MMO Game Design
So, you bought the game from an unauthorized retailer and then complain to Anet/NCsoft? Why aren't you complaining to the retailer that sold you a fake copy?
This mentality is what is wrong with gamers these days.
Beta tests are meant to test games. Instead people think of it as a free early access. Games don't get tested and then people complain there are bugs after launch.

I personally am, hoping to get a new key/refund ASAP. However with preorders being open for roughly 3 months there's a good chance many customers will be unable to get a replacement for something which they knew nothing of. If the keys are accepted by ANet then they should be seen as legit, ANet need a system in place to block these keys from ever being entered if they are genuinely illegitimate.
Some people obviously didn't listen...
How is A-net at fault here?
Selling fake tickets/passes/keys is an old scam.
Cheers!

I agree with Arena.Net's choice on this matter. It's tueir own fault for going with resellers who were not part of the official list, just to save a few $.

So to the op you bought an illegal key from an illegal outfit that NCSOFT gave you a list of who to buy keys from.
Yet you want NCSOFT to honer an illegal key? Why did you not buy the key from somebody who NCSOFT listed?
The way I see it get your money back from the folks who sold you an illegal key, and quit doing business with these illegal key retailers, as all they seam to be is hackers.
You want the game buy it from an approved source, end of story.
Sorry t is not the issue of the company if you take the risk of buying your game or key from a retailer that is not on their list, that would be like being able to sue someone for falling on a wet floor even though they had out of a warning sign or even told you proir to walking on the floor. Do not look at the company on this issue, but rather to the retailers that you bought it from, and to yourself for taking a risk to save some money.
Beta access though is a privilege that the company gives tot he players to allow them to speed up developement of the game, so that they can release it sooner then they might otherwise would be able to. The issue is the beta access is used as a method by many players to determine if they want to play or buy the game, over using it as a method of sharing insight into what plauyers like them might want to see in the game. We as player or rather Beta/alpha testers should feel quite honored that we have a chance to aid or even guide the developement of mmos thru being given access to them prior to release. I mean the devs if they wished could keep a tight lid on the game and developement till launch not allowing anyone outside of the company or close relatves access.
I bought mines from the guild wars 2 site.
Why would anyone buy it from anywhere else... I don't get it... just get it from the people MAKING the game your about to ENJOY... Support them...
Don't say anything about how they make alot of money already... the cost of updating, servers and employees, and sooo out of your mental comprehension.
All and all Good work NCSoft, get them monay and make this game awesome.
That would be true, if people didn't line up to play Beta. People would pay money just to play the beta, not prepurchase or preorder but just say here take my money and let me buy my way into beta.
Supply and demand, companies dont have to pull anyones leg to get them to try their beta.
These beta weekends are nothing more than hype builders, incentives, and at most a stress test. Once companies learned people will get excited to play a beta, they realized they could use this to sell pre-orders. Companies still have serious beta testers, they just have a bunch of stress testers too.
Buying stolen goods is always a risky business.
"I understand that you are only doing your job and there is nothing you can do about the issue"
OK so why continue complaining?
"but is quite frankly its incredibily insulting to your customers.
The customers should not be punished for this."
So customers just handed over there cash without doing any research trying to save a few pesos and you think there wouldnt be any consequence? INTERESTING......
The internet is full of sharks.... and you just got bit son.....

I have to side with ArenaNet on this, isn't it incredibly insulting to them that you want to possibly pay less, and from a shady retailer? Yes, you SHOULD indeed be punished. the game is already free to play after you purchase the initial game. Sorry man but I can't cry for you.
So... I am confused if only X and Y company get to sell their game, why is A and B company selling them as well and not being sued?
I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less.
