Now that Slappy (Chip) has left, I don't see much need for holding back in regards to the ludicrous handling of players by GM's and staff of PWG. I will just tell you a little story about my time with RYL and you can draw your own conclusions.

Myself and two friends started playing RYL during open beta, I guess you would call it RYL1, we were all hooked and played non stop 24/7 for a number of weeks. During this time there was no ruleset or EULA in place regarding a number of rules, and our characters were one day wiped. I literally logged in , was jailed, and had my character perma deleted. My character name was Bloody_Fetus, it was found offensive, I figured no biggie, because technically it was. I was more irritated with the abrupt deletion and non-warning given. I was not allowed to transfer any items, nothing, just boom, deleted. I could agree that the name was considered offensive and did not argue the decision made, just the way the situation was handled, also it was open beta, so.. whooptie-do, character wipes are usually common in a beta.

Me and my two buddies were bummed out, so we decided to contact X.Factor and Slappy and appeal the reasoning behind our wipe. Eventually through emails and IRC, we talked to Chip enough and really let him know how much we liked the game and felt we were dealt an injustice. Chip responded and allowed us to recreate our characters and set us to level 40. You might wonder why I bring it up, but I am simply offfering proof of the accusations of character boosting. It WAS done, and we were not the only ones.

We continued to play, enjoying the game, all was good in the world of RYL. Eventually one of my two friends became bored with leveling, I ended up leveling this persons character for him while he was work etc, just to keep him up to speed and playing, but it simply wasnt enough. This person decided to take advantage of Chip's kindness and began hanging out in IRC 24/7, posting non stop on the boards, ending up with a staggering 1200+ posts in hardly a month. From work, home, where ever, this guy was ass kissing non stop 24/7 in the desperate attempt to become a GM. And you know what? It worked. We ended up having a personal dis-agreement outside of the game, and this person was allowed to manipulate the system and have me perma banned. Access to the forums, and complete deletion of my account. This happened like 2 days before RYL went live. i was simply banne dout of spite by this person for no "real" reason involving the game. I was essentially in bad grace with a GM who i knew in real life and his way of "getting me back" was having me banned. The funny thing is I don;t even remember why we were at odds.

Now, you can say what you want, and I'm leaving out a lot of details for the sake of time, but this is the short and skinny on what went down. It does not surprise me in the least to hear of all the accusations about rude GM's and power trippers..special treatment of fan-boys etc.. it happened, I saw it first hand, and my little tale here is not the only one. there were accusations along these lines before and after I played RYL.  The in-game staff in my opinion is pretty much nothing but fan-boys, the only respectable person involved with RYL was Chip himself and I really don't blame him for a lot of what went down. In my opinion he was kept extremely busy applying updates and if any thing might be guilty of improper management. Understandable in my opinion considering the duress of scheduling and the small staff at PWG (game staff, code translaters etc) I spoke with Chip numerous times via email and found him to be a very down to earth and nice guy. Chip offered to unban my account and take care of my situation, but I politely declined.

Not only had I been witness to first hand corruption by a so called "friend" that I knew for over 8 years, but I had been in numerous other "suspicious" dealings with various GM's. It really came down to who you know and how much ass you kissed. being a fan of the game or a potential customer didn't really mean shit. Bottom line is RYL was extremely unprofessional. The accusations might be dismisse d if they were few and far between, but there have been countless complaints about the staff and you simply can't ignore that.

All the "political issues" aside, RYL1 was addictive, it catered to the PvP crowd, that aspect of the game was solid, but the downside is the MAJOR level grind involved. No questing or storyline, just endless search for gear which for some classes like shadows was hard to get, many weapons were super rare etc and required countless hours grouping only to get a barely useable weapon.

These were my opinions of the game play up until 2 days before release and I doubt a magic wand was waved that fixed everything on release day.

I was a RYL fanatic for quite some time, played 24/7 and posted heavily on the forums, the only difference is my posting was typically related to bug/gameplay issues, or PvP. I guess I lack the the knack for ass kissing needed to shield myself from un-warranted bans.

    Epic? RapidArrow? Johhny Annthrax? Buribista?

Killed tham all.. If you played RYL in those days then you would know these people and remember that time period.

    Regretfully,
