It's been an extremely long time since I've played this game, at least a good 5 or more years. Let me try to describe it, and hopefully someone has played this game and remembers what it was called!
At the time, Runescape had just become a big hit, and this game reminded me highly of runescape. It was an MMORPG with 3rd person view. However, the game had guns with ammo clips and seemed more 3D than Runescape at the time, if I remember correctly. I don't remember it being a browser game, I'm fairly positive I had to download an application to play it, however, it may be a possibility. The login screen had binary code (you know, 1's and 0's) flowing around on it, (either horizontally or vertically, I don't remember.) Might have been more Matrix style, with random green characters at the login screen. You started off the game in a tutorial, and then moved to another area where you could kill chickens and collect feathers in a fenced in area. Moving further brought you to a couple buildings where you could cook food that you picked up after destorying a few animals in a microwave. I distinctly remember seeing deer on the outskirts of the viewing area, where it became a little darker, into nearby woods (not sure if it was fog of war or anything like that). I recall that the game was frequently down when I used to play, and that's probably why I quit playing.
I know my description is extremely vague, but hopefully someone recalls it. If I had more detail to go on, I would have found it myself.
If by some luck you know the name of this game, could you tell me the name and whether it's still alive or not?
Thanks in advance for all replies

Was the environment present day or futuristic?
Thanks for the reply,
From what I can remember, the environment was present day. There wasn't any part of the game, that I know of, that would have been fictional in anyway. It seemed pretty realistic.
Anarchy Online?

-furturistic but its about all i can think of
The above is my personal opinion. Anyone displaying a view contrary to my opinion is obviously WRONG and should STHU. (neener neener)

That game looks pretty cool, but it's not the one I'm looking for. Thanks for the reply though!
The game I'm looking for is probably best described as "Runescape with guns", haha.
Wouldn't be thinking of Fallen Earth would you? Not a browser game, is about that old- wasn't any microwave, but the original tutorial had you collecting mutant chickens and feathers while learning to fight.- And after getting yourself blown to bits running a bomb out of the shelter:)
*edit* It had a long trial available at the time, and is now free to play
This might be completly off the mark but what about Daimonin?

Wow, that game looks like fun, but it's still not looking like the game I used to play... thanks for the reply! The game I'm looking for wasn't post-apocalyptic, and at the time it looked more like how Runescape used to look (not much texture in anything, not much for animations).
Since I haven't been able to find this game for quite some time, I'm guessing that it's no longer running, but it would be cool if it was. It definitely wasn't a browser game, I'm fairly certain that I had to launch the application from my desktop. I most likely played the game sometime in 2003-2005, a short time after Runescape 2 (currently Runescape) had been released. Also, I definitely remember microwaving meat. There was a building in a cluster of buildings that had sort of a kitchen in it that allowed you to cook and prepare your food. Another thing I remember was the empty ammo clips that other players would drop once they had used up their ammo. So there had to be rifles and handguns. I recall the combat being very closely related to Runescapes as well, with the damage popping up over the player/monster.
It was not a private server or anything like that, it was a full game. Could have been in beta, who knows?
AWPlanet is what I came up with:

Very, very close. Thanks for the reply!
The monsters in that game are kind of fictional. The monsters in the game I'm looking for were real animals, like chickens, deer, moose, etc.
That game looks like a good one to check out though, so thank you.
EDIT: I'm going to check that game out, just to be sure. It's that close.
http://www.wurmonline.com/ maybe?
edit: disregard, that's fantasy, not present-day with guns. What else was around back then? The original http://ng.neocron.com/ maybe?
Those are two really interesting games, but I don't believe it was either of them. Thanks for the reply though!
This game seemed to be out doors for the most part, at least the beginning was.
Thanks for everyone's help so far, I really appreciate it!
I love it when someone asks questions like this, it is almost a game in itself trying to help someone find a game they have lost.
But, to be honest, You have me stumped. I will continue to think on it.
Was it Gunz online? or RF online?
Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated! However, it's not Gunz or RF either.
Update: Still haven't found the game yet. Anyone else have any other ideas?
Could it be: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryzom?
From first glace it doesn't seem as realistic. I'll have a closer look to confirm this, though.
SO you never found it? That is to bad what are you playing now?
Usually it is for the best, reality rarely stands up to nostalgia and memory..
This have been a good conversation
Rezzing threads from 2 years ago?
It must be 3am on MMORPG!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:2001_MMORPGs
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:2002_MMORPGs
etc.
Just change the year, and see a list of all MMORPGs released during that year. Hope it helps.
I got no idea what one it is, but here is a list:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massively_multiplayer_online_role-playing_games#List_of_notable_MMORPGs
TBH, I don't think the game you are looking for is on that list.
On a side note Phantasy Star Online has a matrix style screen when you login to the server I think, and one of the first quests you can take involves killing rappys
I know what game you are talking about. It was a lot like runescape but futuristic. Let me see if I can find it.
Here you go.
