Your gear is chosen for you in structured PvP, and gear you can purchase with PvP points is aesthetic anyway. You are NOT balanced out in WvWvW, it's true, however GW2 is not the kind of game where higher level gear is going to keep you from getting face-rolled if more than one person comes at you, unless you're really good. And if you are, then you deserve to win.

i would agree with alot of people , that having the "WoW" community could ruin the game, but to be fair folks just find out were alot of them are going too ( server wise "*cough Desolation cough*) and don't go there if you don't want to play with them.
Even i dislike the WoW - Community ( Sorry ) i will give them a shot. as they will give us ( non WoW'ers ) a shot. a community a 2 direction process, if A is nice to B , B will nice to A. played lotro for 5 years ( with breaks ) and that community was great , but that was because we were all nice to eachother. We hated eachother in PvP and hunted eachother down, back in Pve people were best friends , because we kept it fun. ofcourse sometimes people had a discussion but 99% of the times those got sorted.

The only people affected by gear grind in WoW where casual or poor players who didn't get the gear because of time constraints or because they were awful. Anyone who was even moderately compettive in PvP had damn near the exact same gear as everyone else. It's a ridiculously weak argument.
If you were getting smashed in WoW, you are probably going to get smashed in GW2, with or without gear progression.

Part of it seems to be the caliber of people the game is attracting, but I think a fair portion is also the way the game design fosters cooperative play and seeks to break players of many of the "anti-social" habits other MMOs of late seem to want to reward.
I hope you're right and the community stays in its current happy mood. But from my experience, things are always sunshine and unicorns in beta. When we're playing a released game and it's all for keeps, then we will see what kind of community we've got. MMO players are just people -- pleasant when they're happy, not so much when they aren't.
I'm glad to see ArenaJunkies making a spot for GW2 on their site. Hopefully, people will contribute good info.

If you know a serious competative PvPer that plays or used to play World of warcrack arena then you or they probably know the website Arenajunkies. Its the go to source for arena related information and its highly respected in PvP circles, that being said...
Arena Junkies has decided to add GW2 to the site, they have never added any of the new hyped out mmo's not even swtor whos PvP was modeled after WoW's bg's. Bascialy they believe gw2 isnt hype its actualy the next big thing for competative PvP and I think its fantastic news to hear that so many top lvl PvPers are taking the game serious that they are going to help drive the community forward, its a great read go check it out.
