If you're encountering quest rewards in the newbie quest lines that aren't F2P usable, /bug report them. All of the items should be at this time.
As far as the rest - no, it's not a fully F2P system, because they intend on doing future development work and that takes money. It is, however, arguably the best PVE-centric MMORPG out there in terms of content depth. If you're tired of the shallow, on-rails experiences we've been spoon fed for the last eight years, Vanguard very well may be the game for you.
It's not unusable it tells me that I have to have a subscription ot use this item. It's not a bug.

And if you are getting ANY restricted items from the starter quests it IS unintentional, and should be reported.
What are the six classes and races that you can play F2P? I have a lifetime sub to LOTRO and god that game is boring. I've played this one in the past and I recall it being very in-depth and I LOVE the choices of like 19 classes.

I think it's... warrior, rogue, monk, sorceror, disciple, cleric, aaand I may be missing one. The stand out one is the disciple.
In any case, it's really cheap to unlock a class, just go play one up to level 20 and if you like it, keep it! All the Vanguard classes have a lot of fluff abilities that make them stand out from other MMOs. Blood Mages are especially praised.

Burger King is a "free to eat" restaurant? I did not know that Why can I only play 6 races and 7 classes to end game? Why can't I just pick what I want to play ("free to play your way") and go with it? Because they have to make money somehow, games are expensive. If you like a class enough to play it through 20 levels, then why not just buy it or, subscribe? If you don't like the class...don't pay for it?
Does it have to be ALL for free? Of course not. That is silly. No, you just want everything except shortcuts to be free.
You assume quite a bit. From their matrix: The six free races included with Free Membership are: Thestran, Halfling, Kojani, Half-Elf, Qaliathari, and Mordebi All classes are playable for Free members up until Level 20. After Level 20, the seven free classes included with Free Membership are: Warrior, Rogue, Monk , Cleric, Disciple, Sorcerer and Necromancer. There are 19 races and 15 classes in the game.
As their slogan says, "Free to play. Your way.", you can see that it is NOT free to play *my* way. From the get go, I cannot play ANY class/race I want for free. Now, if you think this means "I want it ALL for free! WAHHHHH!" You are sorely mistaken. They out and out lie. I can, however, play it for free. *Their* way, by choosing from a restricted race/class combo.
It costs 750 station points to unlock a race. It costs 300 station points to unlock a class. I cannot see how much they charge without entering a "payment" method, so I do not know how much real money it costs to pay for this free to play model.
More than anything, it is the principle of their restrictions in character creation that is keeping me away. When a game says it is free to play and then makes you pay right off the bat to play the character you desire to play, I get disgusted.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR

As their slogan says, "Free to play. Your way.", you can see that it is NOT free to play *my* way. Yes, it is, because almost everything restricted in the game can be bought piece by piece, meaning you're unlocking the game YOUR WAY, rather than paying for big packages of stuff you don't necesarily want. From the get go, I cannot play ANY class/race I want for free. Yes, you can, up to level 20. Thats 2/5 of the game, and the price for unlocking the class if you like it is miniscule. Now, if you think this means "I want it ALL for free! WAHHHHH!" You are sorely mistaken. Seems like thats what it is. They out and out lie. Out right lie? How exactly? The world is well aware that FTP doesn't actually mean everything in the game is free. You shouldn't be acting like this is just a Vanguard thing.

When a game says it is free to play and then makes you pay right off the bat to play the character you desire to play, I get disgusted. You don't have to pay "right off the bat". But I guess you're prone to just be disgusted instead of actually reading the matrix.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're just confused and didn't realize you could play until level 20.
Seems ok if you can play all races/classes until 20th level to determine satisfaction/fun vs cost/worth. Concerning SOE station cash, I just remember its 500 SC(station cash) every $5.00 spent . So depends on what you're getting..a class plus race would be just over 1000 SC so at least $15.00 would be required...which to me seems a bit much for an altaholic but fine if that's your primary character. Its still leaves you about 450 SC though so you can get other stuff and sometimes SOE has good sales .
Though a tad on the greedy side their matrix works better for MMORPGs than for MMOFPSs like SOE's Bullet Run where ..even if you buy a weapon with station cash (real money) as opposed to earned free gamer points....you still are expected to pay every 4 games or so to repair it...or play with it at less than its full capacity. That's mostly a peeve though as I've been killing people in that game with a gun at 0 durability for days.
I'm a veteran player, and my lvl 49 wood elf ranger is available to play with all his gear in tact and unlocked that has been binded to me and I'm on the FTP matrix. Now, I assume any new gear I get may be locked to me, I'll have to wait and see. Also, if I roll a new character that's not in the matrix, like a druid wood elf, then I can only play that charcter to lvl 20 then I have to pay gold membership. So, veteran players that have played before the launch of FTP do have some privleges, just depends on a case by case basis.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're just confused and didn't realize you could play until level 20.
I'll try one more time.
"Free to play. Your way." Their slogan for this new business model.
Can I play a Bard to level 55? Not without paying. Not very "free", is it. Idioms 44. for free, Informal . without charge: The tailor mended my jacket for free. (The other defnitions deal with rights and liberties. Look if you wish. Dictionary.com) They lied.

If your complaint is that free to play doesn't mean a game is 100% free... we've known that for nearly 6 ot 7 years now.
It's kind of a moot point.
What you CAN do is choose what you what to pay for.
I have a lvl 15 DK, if I make it to 20, I'll prob sub. Was sailing in my Caraval down the Qa River yesterday. Stopped off at a weird looking building. Took a look inside then got promptly smacked by a high lvl npc.
This game to me is not about crafting, leveling, or even diplo, its all about exploration. Its something I really enjoy and will continue too. Also the cash shop is a little addicting. Lots of fun things to buy and use there.
Basically it seems that the classes/races no one wants to play are the free ones. If you want to do anythign semi interesting then it seems you need to fork over some cash.
How is the server running today? I will give it a shot, but not with the way it was lagging and crashing yesterday.

The most powerful solo class is f2p (disciple) and the two most popular casters are also f2p. Monk is also a very fun class.

the game is not worth 15 dollars a month. SOE, if i have to play with those gamebreaking restrictions dont expect a single dime form my wallet for your cash shop. I dont mind buying fashion, extra character slots, extra bank slots, extra bag slots, 2x EXP potions, mounts.
Being limited to 2 plats of money, low level items (their f2p model says your limited on items so im sure you cant get epic gears..so you will suck), and not enough bags (it doesnt even say you can purchase more bags, only says limited to 2 bags)... its pretty pathetic. Even classes limitations are pathetic but are more acceptable because they dont break the game experience that much, i can just pick the most generic race and class and keep going. But yeah, not gonna happen with your crazybuttz game-murdering limitations.

I am currently using 3 bags, not including my general inventory. Maybe you're only limited on non FTP classes?

Complaining because you can *only* play 7 classes *to end game* is just ludicrous.
Espcially when you can play all 15 to level 20, and VG has a LOT of 1-20 content.
Double post
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're just confused and didn't realize you could play until level 20.
I think you can only have your initial backpack and one bag slot. I didn't see anythign that would unlock additional bag slots in the cash shop.
If that is incorrect, what is the name of the item that unlocks additional bag slots? (Thanks in advance if there is an unlock)
On my free character I have all my bag slots open to me, though I haven't tried adding saddlebags. Just drag and drop them onto the bar.
