Because there are 300thousand people who alrady own Halo and and every other shooter on the market who are just gonna stop playing those games and play this one instead. Not like the half million players who would have played World Of Darkness on day one.  Sure i even built a new gaming box just for when it came out, all the bells and whistles but you think I will waste time buying a console or playing Dust on it, hell no, I will just play GW2 until they get off their ass and release it, Screw Dust.

ccp should focus on pc and pc only. Comparing xbox vs ps3 is like comparing WoW to the rest of mmos. Just annoying....

ive been a console player all my entire life. Had a ps3 slim 2 years ago, traded it in for an 360 slim last year to play with all my friends from my country (stopped playing in january after my 1 year membership expired and i dont want to buy another one when i can buy a great pc game for the same price). If i had the money to buy both consoles i would since i only play mmorpgs on pc.

Comparison between consoles is getting as old as WoW vs the world.... just be happy with what you got. And CCP should stay with PC, console ports to pc sux

Blah blah blah, "I'm mad at CCP because I don't own the system they're making this game for"

That's what this entire argument comes down to.  Ignore the rhetoric and semantics, that's all it comes down to.

I own a PS3, but I don't play shooters on consoles. Isn't their fan base entirely PC driven anyway? Why the hell would you not make a PC title first, and based upon activity or popularity later branch into other markets? I'm not even a fan of EVE, though I think the concept is great, but any interest I had in DUST kinda went out the window the moment I heard of its exclusivity.

Bad move. I'd probably pick EVE back up if it was PC.

    But whatever.

Yeah PS3 only is a huge mistake.  EVE fans are PC gamers.   FPS games work better on PC's anyway.  If it doesn't catch on with PS3 gamers then it will hurt EVE since the Planetary War system won't work properly.  If it came out on PC they could guarantee sales since a lot of EVE players would get it.   I sure as hell am not gonna buy a PS3 just to play it, and may even drop EVE sub when Planetside 2 comes out.

For all the people saying this is a mistake, are you even aware of the numbers behind this?

Let's assume 330k rough estimate for EVE subscribers.  I wouldn't expect every EVE player to even have an interest in DUST or even shooters.  But let's say for argument's sake, that every single EVE player is a potential DUST player.

That's 330k potential players.  Add in those who play other MMOs and may be 'aware' of EVE.  Let's add a couple million potential DUST players on PC.

PC Shooters.  Let's add in another couple million -potential- players.

Let's say we're at 5,330,000.  For argument's sake, let's say there are 10 million potential PC players.  That's from MMOers who are possibly aware of EVE's existence.  Current EVE players.  And shooter fans.  Keeping in mind, that many MMOers probably help make up that 'shooter' marketbase.  We're rounding up to a higher number just for the sake of this argument.  I don't know what the figures actually are, so I'm trying to be more fair to the PC crowd.  It's important to note that many PC gamers don't have fancy computers, and many would be excluded from this number.

A PC -user- does not equate to a PC -gamer-.  I'm sure there are many more PCs in use than there are consoles.  But with the difference in hardware across the board, there are bound to be discrepancies on who is actually capable of playing modern PC games.

Now let's look at the PS3's sales.

    62 million units.

While all of those units don't equate to a player, let's chop 10 million units off the top of that number as units no longer being used.  Hell, take another 10 million just to be fair and err on the low side.  That's 20 million units out of service.

42 million potential DUST players on console.  Keeping in mind the game is going to be COMPLETELY free to download and play on the PSN network.  Many EVE/MMO players likely own consoles.  But many console players likely don't own quality PCs capable of high intensity gaming.  So which is the smarter choice?

A system with MANY different possible configurations, and a wide array of consumers to have to market for.  And 10-20 million potential players.

Or a system with a uniform system specification across the board, and 42 million potential players.

If you wanted to harbor a long-term playerbase for a game, with the largest amount of people available to keep it going for many years, wouldn't you want the highest amount of players to attempt to 'hook' for that term of many years?

Because they aren't marketing Dust 514 to their existing customer base of EVE subscribers. CCP has only stated this a good several dozen times now. Feel free to pay attention any time now.

    1. They aren't marketing it to EVE players.

    2. Why can't EVE fans be PS3 gamers?

just suck it up and buy a ps3. you'll find more of your relatives/friends on consoles then you would on a pc. i have a 1500 dollar gaming pc i built not to long ago and i play my ps3 a lot more then the pc.

    why?

simply because all my cousins/friends have ps3s and we all like to play FPS together. add that it has a blueray player and you can stream movies from your pc to your ps3, and you have a nice addition to your home entertainment center.

Just had to post on this.  You are wrong, you know that right?

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-05-30-worldwide-xbox-360-sales-hit-67m-3m-ahead-of-ps3

Xbox has sold more than ps3.

I was EXTREMELY excited about this game, until I saw it was PS3 only.  I know only one person who even has one of these consoles and I see no reason to buy one for just one game.  I can understand the reasoning behind working with Microsoft being difficult.  I really can.  That said, if you want your game to truly succeed, you go where the people are.

As for those willing to pay, Xbox users have been proven to be willing to shell out extra dollars even while paying the $60 per year cost for Xbox live.  Anyone who has truly used Xbox live, completely understands that the platform is WELL worth the $5 per month you are essentially paying.

CCP made a bad choice and they will pay for it in the end.

Stop arguing over whether it should have been on Xbox or PS3, the bigger issue is that it should have at LEAST been on a particular console + PC. TO have an MMO be console exclusive is dumb, to make this aforesaid console exclusive MMO be connected to a PC exclusive MMORPG (both by story and by actual game symbosis)  is just madness.

The FPS genre plays best on the PC, the PC player base also has proved that they're more likely to get their debit or credit cards out to purchase in game items or a subscription. EVE universe fans are all on the PC right now and I bet most people playing EVE would rather play Dust on the PC or cannot play it on the PS3 at all because they do not have one.

What CCP are doing is just mental, the game will fail hard if they carry on in this direction, they need to open up for atleast the PC. The PS3 is coming towards the end of it's life cycle so the game will so so short lived if they do not do this.

EVE has been going nowhere fast for the past couple of years thanx to the focus on Dust, World of Darkness and the walking in stations BS. World of Darkness is now dead and Dust is a PS3 exclusive.... CCP need to fire whoever is making these decisions.

    why you say this?

I would agree if it where not a proven fact (Hello Planetside!) that hacks and cheats kill competitive  fps on the PC.

Sure you have cheat detection on most major titels, but I doubt that CCP would really want to fight that fight with thier limited resources.

Apparently the Baidu forums (Chinese) are buzzing with speculation about a PC beta for Dust scheduled for 2013. This would fit in with a 1-year Playstation exclusive launch deal with Sony

CCP are relaunching EVE in China with a new partner, and PS3 ownership in the chinese market is apparently very low. Dust, being based on the UT3 engine and supporting KBM on the PS3, should be relatively easy to port to the PC

Interesting times, gentlemen. I would definitely play a PC version of Dust, even if it was a B2P rather than just a F2P.
