EQ2 on the way up?

moonfogmoonfog Member Posts: 979

I thought to see just how the population is on the servers. Alot are saying they are low. I have not created a new character for a long time and did this to see the servers.

And what did I see? Well to my joy ALL servers were on Medium and even some on Heavy. I did this on US as well as EU servers with the same result.

So i guess SOE is doing something right. The free 7 days for old customers as well as the DoF release, might also be  that the people playing the "other" game are getting bored of it. In any case it seems the numbers are rising.

Makes me happy. Keep up the good work SOE. image
I just hope the "new" crowd  sticks around.

The "down" side is there seems to be a more draw on the younger players, maybe because of the DoF with its PvP. Suddenly I am getting spamed by duelers, and for the first time I have to use my Ignore option...but I guess its the price to pay.

It's not going to be an easy task trying to win back all those thousands of people they had playing at release. First impressions are hard to get past, especially if the game sucked balls back when EQ2 first had people's attention.

But I think they are on the right track. I've noticed more and more people playing in the zones I've been frequenting when compared to before the CR and expansion. I don't think I'm alone when I say I played at release for a couple of months, hated it and quit....and I'm now just coming back and finding the game I hoped it would be when the game first went live.

Keep up the good work SOE. Better late than never I suppose. image

Whats changed? Oh my, thats to much for me to mention.

The things I can mention on the top of my head:
They have had a total combat revamp, added alot of solo content.
Removed group debt as well as the locked combat (you can now jump in and help others)
Characters are now alot more uniqe as to there rolls/class.
PvP arena and dueling...a cool function is the "duel bet" were duels can bet and the winner gets the pot.
    Voice emotes
    New interface options/look

Man there is alot more but I cant think of them all.

    Read more HERE

And i agree, EQ2 is now as it should of been from the start.

Well pirrg, since you know so much about eq2 and it's current vast sucking... Shouldn't you know? All the content is documented and easily accessable on http://www.eq2players.com .

It's a good read... If need be, I will supply exact links.

    Allrighty Mr.Pirrg here we go:

I'm going to link all the development section changes per month since launch, each of these goes to a page that has what was changed in that month (I.E. Update #8 in May)

    Current Month (september):

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_full.vm?month=current&section=Development

    August 2005:

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_full.vm?month=082005&section=Development

    July 2005:

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_full.vm?month=072005&section=Development

    June 2005:

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_full.vm?month=072005&section=Development

    May 2005:

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_full.vm?month=052005&section=Development

    April 2005:

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_full.vm?month=042005&section=Development

    March 2005:

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_full.vm?month=032005&section=Development

    Feb 2005:

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_full.vm?month=022005&section=Development

    January 2005:

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_full.vm?month=012005&section=Development

    December 2004:

    November 2004:

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_full.vm?month=112004&section=Development

Now of course, there is a quick select bar to scroll through the months on the side of the page.. But every single content update, the fewest from any month i think is 4 updates... The largest i think i counted was 21..

I just find it amusing that people are now praising the changes that I was asking for during beta, when they were bashing me for them back then. ::::02::

Tried it for a while a couple months ago, but just couldn't get into it. Part of it was the graphics, which I never have found terribly appealing. Unfotunately, Vanguard looks like it's going to suffer from the same problem, but I digress.

Anyway, back to slithering about in the corner. Carry on with the ever amusing arguements on EQ2's vast suckage/better than sex-ness.

I just have to spawn a conspiracy: Some dev finally snapped and lowered the limits for light/medium/heavy :)

i agree, i was a WoW fan boy until i got extremely bored after running the end game instances OVER, and OVER, and OVER again. not to mention finding a good group of people, then actually running the instance. one time in LBRS someone actully quit the instance to go buy steak and shake....really? picked up eq2 last week, and man, i'm hooked.

Yeah, I did the same thing and was turned off by the graphics as well. Then again, I was trying to play a char that was 20-something in level after having forgot almost everything about the char's abilities ... and hell, even how to use the interface. So I might have been tripping up on that... with the graphics just not giving me inspiration to hack through it. Who knows.

That was before all the slew of latest changes that have piqued my interest as of late. Been thinking about activating again, but this time I'd start a character from scratch and relearn again like a newbie. Might be a better way to get back into things.

BTW, long time no see... ::::33::

Steak and Shake is a fast food franchise from the midwest, may be more elsewhere

Funny thing I see is people complaining about the graphics. I bet these are the same people who love the graphics of WOW and guild wars, which I personally cant stand.

Everquest deserves to be up the top of the ladder, and a new official review written for it. It is by far the most "complete" package available in the MMORPG scene at this time.

I have been playing since it was released, for a time i nearly cancelled and didnt play much, but with all the new features, content, and expantion pack it feels like a new game too me. I am hooked.

The development team is VERY active, which is alot more than I can say of WOW.

Im very appreciative of WOW however, its keeping the battlenet kiddies and other morons out of my game.

My one complaint is the lack of equipment graphics but Im sure that will be addressed soon enough.

  • ColdmeatColdmeat Member UncommonPosts: 3,408

Eh, I checked the local EB to see if they had any EQ2 game cards, which they didn't, so I picked up Fable:TLC for the pc instead.

I take it as a sign from the gods.

I think anyone who gives EQ2 in its present state an honest go will become hooked.

Last night I did the "Intriguing Eye" quest from the down below and it was just a damn kewl quest. The game is what you make it. Sadly people with lower end systems will not have as much fun as someone with a higher end one, and that just isn't going to change.

You can definitely see an attitude shift as people slowly upgrade their systems. The graphics are just so lush and vibrant on my computer and I think my monitor helps that a lot too. It's a 19" NEC opticlear with DVI inputs. DVI input makes all the difference, I couldn't believe how until I got it. Also LCD screens, a good one, helps to blurr the line between video game and reality.

A friend of mine on Antonia Bayle just dinged 52 last night and she said there were 60 people in the new zone, this was at 2am pacific, that's 5 am eastern image.

I'm gonna take my time this time around and smell the roses. There are so many quests to do, I can say that so far quest experience outwieghs battle experience by far. I got bored after launch and it's hard to put my finger on why it's so much better, but I think it's the small things.

UI tweaks, gameplay enhancements, texture optimizations so it runs smoother, plethora quests, new mobs and mob placements, little mini instance caves inserted in mountainsides, 2 adventure packs to have fun with and the combat revamp was the topper: it made EQ2 a challenge and not just a sequenced button pressing fest. You actually have to con things and change fight styles and re-adjust mid battles.

The report of 500k subscribers, while I could care less in the end how many people are playing, does my heart good that people appreciate when a company works to make a game the best it can be, even if it is SOE.image

US Server was realy all medium??? wow, never seen that since a long time.

  • anarchyartanarchyart Member Posts: 5,378

I've only seen that once, although I play mostly at night and I only get to see the full list when I'm creating a character. If you want a server where there's tons of people play Antonia Bayle, if you don't care how many just pick a different one.

I play on AB because of some friends who decided to play there, but sometimes the amount of people gets annoying lol every night there's like 30+ people in Willow wood.....why I have NO idea.image

Isn't AB one of the RP designated servers? You should only really play on those servers if you intend to roleplay. RP servers generally tend to get overcrowded because developers seem to underestimate the numbers of roleplayers, but few things p*ss roleplayers off more than players joining "their" servers with no intention of roleplaying.

I don't care what they want, as long as you're respectful they shouldn't have a problem with it. I don't roleplay, but I also am very respectful and mature when I play. I never ask for anything besides advice, and I do so in a polite way.image
