Is Everquest II good?

I was deciding to play Everquest II. I recently quit Lord Of The Rings Online because it was to hard, and it got boring. So i saw Everquest II. MMORPG.com said it's pretty good, but i'll like a wide range of real people to rate it. So, is the gameplay good? Intense? Is there a lot of players? Is the world really big?

I played EQ2 back around 2005 or 2006.  It remains one of my favorite MMOs.

Big world, variety of different classes, leveling that meant something.

Not sure how it is now, but if you haven't tried it and can get past the somewhat dated graphics, it is definitely worth a try.

LOTRO was designed from WoW which was designed from EQ/EQ2. If you didn't like LOTRO I doubt EQ2 will be much different for you! It has an unbelievable amount of content, but a pretty lame F2P experience. That all being said - I paid for EQ2 for almost 3 years and just recently dropped in for TSW and GW2. Population is still solid and you will never run out of stuff to do. Just don't expect a hugely different gaming experience...

I have been playing everquest 2 since NOV 2004 (launch).  I get bored, try a new game, and always come back.

It is good IMO.  Problem is if you are joining the game for the 1st time you will see almost no groups until 90-92.  So it will be really everQUEST for a new player =)

Once you make some friends, and get into the swing of things you will like it.  Even though lvl 92 for groups will be appealing to you... Take your time, enjoy the content, and learn the game & your class.

EQ 2 is free to play.  The easiest way to decide is to play it.  IMO EQ 2 is a good game with vast amounts of content.  The classes are varied, but they do follow the trinity formula.  Lots of stuff to do in game besides combat, like crafting, collections and housing and a vast world to explore.  IMO EQ 2 is more fun game than LOTRO.  The only downside would be the population is top heavy, but most themeparks have this problem.

EQ2 is great, but the F2P version may drive you away in all due honesty. Lots of ads, lots of stuff to unlock with cash and a few other annoyances. But it does indeed let you get a feel for the game.

If you like a questathon WoW clone type game then you will like it....I played it before and after f2p and I did not like it much after f2p..... EQ1 was always more enjoyable for me.

I haven't played the game in a few years but I always had fun in EQ2 when I did.

I recently quit Eq2 after playing and paying for it 6 long years. They definately did something right to keep me playing for that long. If you are looking for an easy game eq2 is not it. This was the last pre-WoW AAA mmo ever made and thus more comlex and difficult content. Less than 100 people have beaten all the content. Unlike WoW most will never actually complete the game. There is a large crafting community and player housing selection that keeps the casuals occupied. The game is certainly good but there are reasons this game is not super popular.

Can you define what you mean by a "WoW clone"?  Are you talking about Character classes, graphics, the interface, the quest system, or something else that I'm missing?
