So me and my fiance are saving money so we can get married. The obvious answer to the question I am about to ask is try them all. With money being so tight though that is pretty much impossible. I am on temporary disability due to back surgery that came out of the blue. So I have decided post this on the games we are interested in. Those games are Rift, WoW, and GW2. All of which have expansions coming out. We have to buy two copies of each game and that is beyond our expenses for the moment.
Right now we are playing WoW. We only been back maybe two months. WoW is great game but there is some problems running into. She works midnights and it is impossible for her to raid. PuGs have really gotten bad socially. She decided to make disc priest and honestly wasn’t so hot starting off when it came to instancing. She would tell the group before hand that she had never healed said instance before. Didn’t matter (we only ran three). The last one the tank called her the big “C” word and my fiance got so upset she just dropped group. She is yet to do another. She hardly is playing. Looking for Raid is completely out. She played LoTRO for years so I know she is decent player. Even I who played since Vanilla till mid WoTLK dread PUGS now because it seems if I am not getting cursed out someone else is. I am more thick skinned but she is not.
I played Rift from beta until 1.3 and planned on coming back later. We like fact of two player instances big time. I love the soul system to no end. Many things seemed to have changed a lot. I worry though that Rift is going to end up just being another 5 man instance and raid group to get any sort of comparable gear. I know they added some system of being able to do instant adventures and somehow doing Rifts alone results in gear (somehow?). I am very much out of touch on Rift I got to admit. Also I might mention I like to do little bit of everything. She is more of a PvE player. Personally I like PvP, PvE, and little stuff such as Archeology, Professions, Fishing, pet collecting, etc on WoW. I fear Rift will be just another gear treadmill of 5 man instances to do raiding then have to get on raid schedule two-four nights a week to have gear even comparable to those around me.
So seeking advice from those of you playing Rift on your take of how we would do on Rift.
To those who played GW2 and MOP perhaps could get some comparisons and maybe suggestions which one would be better for us? Out of the three I know least of what Rift would have to offer us
BTW she is more PvE player, and likes to solo/duo. Me, I do a little bit of everything as I said.
Again trying them all out is going to be impossible. 60 X 2=120$, 40X2=80$, and 40X2=80 more. 280 dollars is simply out of our range for the moment so do want to hopefully pick the best.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If money is a BIG issue then GW2 wins. However I think GW2 will be the better option gameplay wise aswell. The DE's look like they have made questing a lot more interesting, the action combat looks more fun than the other two games.
I've not personally played GW2 but it does look like a really good game.
Read up to the point about tight money, recommend GW2 because of no monthly subscription required. There are no raids in GW2 (yet, as is known at this point). And in PUGs you have no dedicated classes so no one can rage on a single member of the group because he wasn't doing his/her job right.
That should be the votebreaker anyway so you go enjoy your relationship.
Cool thanks for responses so far!
Money is an issue, but we can basically swing one... Playing together is important to us as gives us something to do. With my back way it is there isn't that much
Again thanks for responses so far totally appreciate it!
Ok i ' ve played all the 3 games (WoW 5 years)(Rift 2 months)(GW2 beta).
Money wise:
As fas as for WoW = you have the standar monthly fee + you have to buy the expansion couse you ll stay behind.
As fas as for Rift = Same as above but if you pay 120 euros now to get 1 year subscription you get the expansion for free
As fas as for GW2 = No monthly fee, you can be competitive and not stay behind if you dont buy the expansions(all will tho).
Game wise:
WoW is the game that u know, nothing supernatural gonna happen. Atm they just care to keep it without losses until their next game by making it more easy.
Rift is the best WoW clone, so if u looking something like WoW but got bored of WoW, here it is. Some things are different (few) but some things are missing. Their top feature the soul system.
GW2 is pretty different from the above (or just presents the same things from another angle). Also it has no raids, it has 5 man instances, world bosses (not raid style), you can solo most of the PvE content, you can get legendairies by your own (personal effort) and has much PvP(WvW is differnet expirience if you havent played some similar yet). Its my current choice but watch out, will not work for all (especially for ppl that still enjoys WoW style mmo's).
So imo moneywise GW2 is the winner. Gamewise tho you have to decide If you want a WoW-centric game or something new.
PS: Watch some streams for GW2 with your girlfriend if u have no clue.
I've been playing Rift free trial up to 20th. So far I have a cleric, warrior & rogue to 20. I've tried various "souls/classes" to figure out one I like.
You can get gear doing rifts by;
1. Queue for instant adventures. You're teleported to somewhere within the zone placed in a raid where you and others complete a series of quests with time limits. The final quest is usually killing a boss. After that battle you're awared planarite and epic planarite based on your level.
In the newb zone the epic can be traded in for 50 planarite. The rare planar vendor sells blue armor & weapons for around 75 each plus various planar essences. Just doing instant adventures will level you up super fast and you'll be able to get a few piece of blue gear in no time. That and only a couple pvp matches you'll be able to afford the low level pvp gear.
2. Rift themselves, you defeat each wave at the rift and when complete by sealing the rift you're awarded planarite. At certain times there are zone events where a certain plane death/earth/fire/water etc will attempt to invade the zone. Strongholds appear throughout the zone and attempt to attack the quest area wardstones. Eventually a large raid boss spawns. Once you take them all out you're awarded a buncha planarite.
I find the game extremely easy, both levelling & ability to obtain decent gear compared to WOW. That aside the game as someone else already said is a WOW clone. Classes are exactly the same, other then a few which appear to be Warhammer clones.
I don't have any inclination however to subscribe once i reach 20th theres not much incentive for me to continue really. Why play a wow clone doing the grind all over again when I can just log into wow.
I will say WOW for one simple reason because it is a complete game thanks to 7 years of content behind it. It is the best bang for a buck and content will last lot longer than Rift and GW2.
Also if you are one of those people who can not tolerate bugs and other stability issues that come with first month of launch i suggest don't buy GW2. You can not go wrong with WOW purchase. EQ2 and WOW are two most content heavy MMOS in the market right now.
