TSW just isn't for this former DAOC fan.

Don't get me wrong.  I really think Funcom did a great job with TSW.  The questing system was very refreshing!  Not more loading up a quest log with 30 quests we could care less about.  I loved the look and feel of the world and I can't remember the last time I got that scary jump from a mob coming out of nowhere.

Alas, it just isn't for me.

- First of all it is way too expensive for what it is.  Having to pay for the client, a monthly sub and having an item shop is way too much for this product.  At best this game is a 'Skyrim' type game.  It just didn't feel like an MMO and I rarely needed to talk to other people.  I was happy to pay for the client, but the extra charges just aren't worth it...to me.

- As a former DAOC fan I was really hoping TSW would have been the answer to my need for a good 3-faction PvP game.  The PvP is a let down I'm afraid.  How there is no open world PvP zone is beyond me. Oh that's right, only like 1 % of MMOers PvP right?  Pbbbbbt.  Looks like GW2 and Planetside 2 are my next hopes.

- The crafting was interesting, but I couldn't craft items that helped me as I progressed throughout the game.  By the time I got enough materials for an item, it was too low for my character to use.  Also, even with the Auction House, the economy seemed drab in general.  Players will be able to easily gain plenty of currency and have nothing to spend it on.  It takes away the desire to focus on crafting.  Some players just like to craft only and I don't get the feeling that this would be possible in TSW.

Although certain aspects of TSW were refreshing, it just doesn't have what I'm looking for.  Still I hope is continues to be sucessful.  We need all the non-WOW clone MMO's to be as sucessful as possible for the sake of the industry.  Good luck to all who stick with it!!!!

Great post and I agree. TSW is a great game but it did feel more single player then MMO at times for me which is why I decided to stop playing after my second month. Also I think I've come to realize that I'll never be happy in a themepark MMO. They all lead to a boring end-game gear grind, which I have no interest in. I need an open pvp world with good crafting. I have no regrets buying TSW, it was a great experience.

I now know that I should be looking at the sandbox genre for my MMO fix because if TSW and GW2 doesnt do it for me nothing themepark will. I wish all those playing the best and hope that TSW takes off and becomes a great game, even though I do expect it to go F2P eventually in order for it the survive in todays over-loaded market. We need more recent games like DFO, Xsyon, and Wurm but unfortionately MMOs are going in the total opposite direction :-/

Your not alone. I wanted tsw to be great. It is unique and isn't like the normal recycled fantasy mmos that come and go. I'm also very interestd in conspiracy theories. I'm not saying I believe in them, just that I find thm interesting. That being said..... I couldn't get into it. I'm not sure why, I guess I just thought the combat was lackluster. The quest tracker was also not suitable to my tastes. Oh and the jump animation made me want to cry.

Good post. I loved the game setting and the way they did the skills, big kudos to FC for thinking outside the box. The quests that I saw were really well done also. Could not make myself purchase it though because teh combat juts did not feel right for me and the animations were off. I realize those are subjective and others feel diffferently. Gotta say though, this was a lot better  than I thought it would be.

FC games always have  great  design in concept but in the execution they seem to fall flat for some reason.

    I miss DAoC

Unfortunately FC is likely going to miss the train again by going with a restricted freemium trial instead of opting for a real f2p model..

In many aspects TSW is an awesome game but imho it was never worthy of a monthly sub content wise but it seriously leaves me wondering that if FC had took this game B2P how many copies it might have sold, i suspect well over a million and a half by release alone..

And yeah Ethian i think we all want an amazing AAA sandbox or even a AAA sandpark game to arrive but i wouldnt hold my breath..

    Playing GW2..
