Is GW2 gonna have a humorous/comical aspect similar to WoW?

PipofixPipofix Member Posts: 32

I got this idea or question stuq in my head, because one of the things imo that gave wow its quality was the comical aspect to its lore/quests etc.

To be franc im a bit tired of "this is a game for adults, come join us were mature". Not that I think gw2 has this approach but im afraid it might be lacking in its comical department.

Have you any thoughts on this? Perhaps you played the beta and can give an anecdote or two :)

If you play the Asura race it is pretty funny.

Try to look up the dances on youtube. Especially the Norn dance.

Well, Guild Wars 1 was full of humorous and comical moments, also with lots of references to movies/series/books.

I remember fighting a golem with the name OVR-9000 in the Asura area....

And the dialogues between the Asura little kids were also very comical (the "Your mother is..." comments)

Block the trolls, don't answer them, so we can remove the garbage from these forums

There is a bit of humor here and there.

    I lol'ed hard

I think Guild Wars 2 has a more mature aspect to it. Very serious in nature compared to WoW. But not gritty serious.

Yes I was happy about this race :)

Seems quite fun, perhaps abit on the "cute" side, but im an opptimistic so far. The thing about wow:s gnomes is that they are hysterical.

I had a friend play a gnome rouge with pink hair and named tom selec, i mean this guys is hilarious in himself but in the role of tom selec it was insane.

I really hope the lore has intelligent humour and isnt to serious :)

    cheers.

GW1 always had a healthy balance between the more dramatic main storyline material and a generous helping of humour throughout all the campaigns. Nothing I've seen in beta makes me think this has changed for GW2 - there seems to be a good healthy streak of humour alive in the game.

    Yup.

There are the gravestones with funny/witty quotes, there is plenty of jokes in Asura zones ("Your mama's IQ is so low..." dialogue between two Asura kids), Charr cub dialogues, interactions with Skritt, Quagans (Swimming song), etc.

Just like GW1, GW2 will have plenty of such little things.

In one of my story quests a charr commander comes over to me and says "So, you and the troops decided to get drunk and go tooling around in one of my tanks, which is now missing. Congratulations! You just joined the Iron legion. Now go find it.". I thought that was pretty funny.

    There is NO miracle patch.

95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

    Hope is not a stategy.

There is a massive thread onf gw2guru that has loads of these little tid bits and jokes.

I won't start reeling them out (Also I can't find the thread at the moment) but my favourite was an experimental golem called

    O-VR-9000 (or something like that...)

EDIT: since ovr 9000 was already mentioned I'll refer to Caithe going all Boromir with the "One does not simply wake up and kill an elder dragon"

    Ohhh shinies.

For all of you who did this DE know what that means image

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Haha GW2 has cracked me up multiple times already, especially the skritt, and when they're talking to asura it gets even funnier. So much personality in their comical relief. It's great.

If WoW was released today even in its' entirety it would be f2p in 3 months.
Why is it still such a big deal?

I was sold when the asura started throwing around pseudo-science jokes.

And for darker and more mean humor go to the charr... those guys know how to make "crack your head open" jokes.

(And there is references in the game world all around as already stated)

Its all embedded in the characters funnily enough. Thats something even most TV-comedy series can't pull off.

GW2 keeps me cracking up even out in the field during battle...

Oh my leg! says the crippled human warrior as he goes limping into my healing spring..

Whew bubububu! says the norn engineer when he is about to take a dirt nap..

I ddoonnnt ah think im uh gonna make it this time says my crippled retreating human ranger with 8 centaurs and a chief on his ass before being downed..

    Hillarious stuff..

    Playing GW2..

The norn dance doesn't suit the race it should have been techno viking, that would have been fitting.

Have you seen the stuff on the cash shop? Aviator sunglasses and big ass boxing gloves. Just from interviews with the devs, you can tell they're funny and have a good sense of humor. 20 hours to go....

GW2 have some humor but not as many pop culture refferences as Wow have, which is fine in my book.

Wow takes things too far for my taste.
