I think people are not being honest here with their posts. Yes GW2 is having serious issues right now but IMO the amount of complaints and backlash we are seing here is 10 fold in numbers because of the resentment and anger that a lot of fans of other games were holding for this past year or a two. They were waiting to have 'their last laugh' and hit back for all the flaming the endured at head start / launch and rest of the release period.
So can we all be a little honest please? because i see so many posters who had no intention of ever buying GW2 are suddenly having log in issues? i am not saying that there are not genuine problems because it is indeed a widespread problem especially for EU players. But how many are here just to see Anet screw up so that they can feel vindicated.

I think its funny.
Dont get me wrong I wanna get back in and play but I actually expected downtime as I always do with launches/early access.
Its a shame we have to share the planet with so many idiots.

What amazes me personally is that people like the OP spend more time on the GW2 forum than playing the game they use the graphics for their avatar.

Is tat the best you can do to flame me? my avatar? seriously? i use that Avatar because i like it and after playing TSW beta i knew it wasn't for me. Seriously you can do better.

I think people are giving GW2 an extra helping of sh@t because some of the fans have been off the hook these past few months. Every game released or update this year has been living in the shadow of the impending release of the bestest, most innovative game of all time. When something gets played up that much, it gets left with no room for error.
I think people are also getting tired of the claim that it really isn't release yet. Headstart is release for the early adopters who are willing to put their money out there early. Sorry, you only get one chance to have a more or less seemless launch. That is not gone for GW2. Not that big a deal. lots of games have trouble the first day. But there has also been several games that have had no downtime during their headstarts so this is also not necessarily par for the couse. Fact is games that go without a hitch in the first few days probably just got lucky.
The real test of a systems group is not if downtime can be avoided all together but rather how well they respond to a failure. How fast can they restore service. That is the real question. So far? well, 3+ hours is not good.
All die, so die well.
I don't need to do "better", anyone can look at your post history and see that all your recent posts are bashing this game. Just as if you have nothing better to do...

Eleanor Rigby.
you are right because Most of the names of the posters aren't regulars in GW2 forums.
Life is a Maze, so make sure you bring your GPS incase you get lost in it.
My avatar is more artistic than yours! Cant you see the little flames? :P
TSW - AoC - Aion - WOW - EVE - Fallen Earth - Co - Rift - || XNA C# Java Development
Yes my recent posts are full of complaints about login problems because well 'i can not log in'. Since when talking about one issue automatically translates to bashing the entire game? explain this to m please. Or if you can show me where i said GW2 sucks or that GW2 is a failure? you can not because i didn't.
But still flaming me for avatar for another game was really childish. You are right though i have nothing better to do than post here and wait for servers to get up.

Thats a new twist on things, blame other gamers from other MMO's, as if the OP actually knows that these posters haven't bought the game.
Honesty is a two way street, so don't throw blame at the wrong ppl.
Believe that if you want. No one is flaming tbh. The game as advertised is fubared and so ppl are quite rightly pissed about it. (3 day headstart is advertised, so not a beta etc)
They just f'd up, sorry dude, accept it.

People are easily forgetting the days of 56k modems and getting a phone call every 30 min causing a disconnect (or paying for a 2nd phone line just to avoid that). The amount of technical crap I had to put up with to play EQ1 but I still loved the game. I miss the days of having no prior information about a game's release or "launch" where you could just randomly go to walmart and see a awesome game on the shelf. For this game I took advantage of the newegg flash sale, I dont have access to the game till it is mailed to me, even though I am not charged for the purchase until it ships I still have to deduct it out of my checkbook which is to me the same as pre-purchasing it.
There will be no backlash, GW2 is B2P they just want initial sales and a couple microtransactions. At this point it is too late for them to fail.
Made me lol that is a valid point.
It's the last days they can bash the game before it officially is elevated into one of the greatest mmorpgs ever created getting 9/10 and 10/10 in reviews with "finally a breath of fresh air in the genre" praises, and there's nothing else in horizon to bash so, give them slack, they are out of business in few days
The biggest reason for the backlash is that people cannot log in and play the game right now. Really. No conspiracy. No "gotcha!" from poeple playing other games (in fact, many people playing other games that I know plan to try GW2 as well).
Where the divide is coming in the forums is:
1) Yes, it unrealistic to expect 100% uptime between the beginning of headstart and release on Tues, 8/28. However, the length of the downtime this morning (in the first few hours of the headstart) and the lack of communication from ArenaNet (a few posts on Twitter & Facebook, not the official site, married with the Forums on the official site being brought down) is a huge sore spot for those who pre-ordered the game. Rightfully so.
2) Every game has it's staunch defenders. Every game has it's adamant detractors. any time a game is as hyped up as SWTOR and GW2 have been, those camps become more vocal and more lavish in their defense/attack, not only of the game but of one another. On the one hand, you have the defenders who are attempting to write all of this off as no big deal and the detractors who are pointing fingers and saying, "Next big thing? Prove it. Wait, you can't because your login servers are hosed. Nyha ha ha!"
How do you stop the backlash? Fix the login issues in a timely manner and let people into your game. Prove that the hype was justified by providing a great gameplay experience. Do that and all will be forgiven/forgotten. Screw that up (coming on the coattails of the login issue) and you could be taking a hit in the number of retail copies sold if word of mouth gets out that GW2 isn't worth the cost of the box/download.
Oh, and a little communication on the official site would be nice. Go ahead and post updates on social media outlets as well, if you like, but not exclusively through Twitter/Facebook. That seemed obvious to many of us, but not the ArenaNet team, I guess.
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy.
