Not going to live up to the hype.

I dont think its going to fall below TORtanic levels of let down but this isnt a sustainable model of game for the MMO sphere.  Its an interesting single player experience but it feels a little to similar to GW 1 when it omes to the "MMO" aspects needed to sustain a community.

This game is already not living up to the hype.

I haven't seen a game yet that has lived up to the hype, depending on the person.  Your statement is true for those who were let down, and untrue for the others.  Not really saying much in this thread.

Dont know, dont care. I have enjoyed myself more than in a MMO the last 10 years these 2 last days. A lot more.

If you guys bought it and decides it wasnt enough for you too bad for you.

But there is one huge difference between GW2 and TOR: You can actually feel how much work ANET put into their world and engine. In TORs case it is the VO you can feel.

apparently there is no sustainable model.  PPL have poo poo'd, Freemium, B2P, P2P, and everything else.  LOL, in fact, they are all losing money and they will all be closing up shop in the next 30 days.

At the moment i'm on a guild with over 50 people.

I asked what the general idea was about the game, except for lag issues and people not liking overflows /  EB queues, everyone said the game was way better then they anticipated.

So i guess, it overstates the hype for some people.

60 people in my guild, same consensus... everybody is having a blast despite the small overflow and guild problems.

I've been sceptical as regards hype around this game, as I have other recent AAA titles. Maybe that's why I don't feel let down in anyway. I didn't play beta so my first experience of the game came this weekend and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. It runs really well on my laptop, too, and looks great.

Exceeded my hype, and that was pretty high to start with. I'd explain it to you, but the Inquest just started attacking... gtg...

    I can't facepalm hard enough...

    1. GW2 is nothing like GW1 at all. I can't think of a single thing the games have in common gameplay-wise.

    2. The only "MMO aspect" GW2 is missing compared to oher current MMOs is the gear grind.

There are lots of things you could complain about, but missing features are not one of those.

99.999% of the time, hype for anything is way beyond realistic expectations.

    One thing for sure:

GW2 is a well crafted. beautifully rendered and enjoyable game.

I was talking about sustaining a community. This game will end up being a giant lobby for pvp queues and matches in 3-4 months.

No doubt the fanboi's will poo poo any opinions that run counter to thier own, it happens with every game and GW 2 will be no different but when the new car smell wears off the truth will be a painfull pill for some to swallow.

Yeah, same with my buddies and guildies. But long term it is impossible to make any judgment whatsoever.

And I think GW2 will have a lot more people playing once or twice a week than games like Wow.

I know everyone's experience is different, but I just can't see where all this "single player" talk is coming from.  I've grouped more and talked to more people, that weren't friends or guildies, this weekend than I have in the last couple of years in other games.  People are a lot more willing to do stuff together since there is no penalty for grouping or worrying about ninjas and gankers like other games.

Aording to my guild and myself the game is by all accounts a huge success. Gear grinders won't be happy because they can no longer distinguish with gear alone. They also have to be skilled. :) [mod edit]

    Hype is personall.

IMHO, the only mmorpg in recent times did did in fact not meet it's "general" hype was SWTOR. It's in a completly different level.

Why can't people just wait 1 or 2 month after launch before makin these threads?

It's a shame most people find the game a disappointment.

We would not know if GW2 is a sustainable model, we have not seen one in years.

Oh wow, okay sure.  You said:

" this (GW2) isnt a sustainable model of game for the MMO sphere."

    I said:

"If GW2 is not a sustainable model for a game...then what is?"

And that isn't really out of context...how did I not read what you wrote?

Also about your argument that GW2 will end up being a giant lobby for pvp queues...

    1.  How do you figure?  Did you forget GW2 has dungeons?

    2.  Isn't WoW essentially a giant lobby for queues right now?  Is WoW not sustainable?

Finally, falling back on a "no doubt the fanbois will poo poo any opinions that run counter to (sic) thier  own" argument is so cheap and stupid.  Why don't you actually try to argue the points instead of just blindly declaring any opposition to your argument as invalid because it must be a "fanboi" that said it?

it is indeed quite possible, since it's a themepark after all, BUT, how do you for sure? Notbody as reached endgame yet, noones played more than a few days.

Before saying it won't live up to the hype, how about letting the game actually have a month of life, have it's surge of players, form community, etc before making these claims?

Agreed. This is the most fun I've had at the lunch of a game in a long-time. There are TONS of little details about the world that just make it feel so good.

How do YOU know - have your crystal ball out?

Of course there is the tie in with GW1 - it is called GW2 after all. It wouldn't be GW2 with out the tie in.

I think it is a great game and one that does follow the hype. Have you played it or just trolling for effect.

TOR died because there was nothing to the game at all - just VOC - it is a single player game  - with a little MMO thrown in.

I am in a guild with 80 members already! We are hoping to hit the levels we had in GW1.
