TL2 is actually good! (Beta Impression)

RompsterRompster Member Posts: 21

Hey guys,

I usually don't write much on these forums but I do read them often.  I just finished my first time playthrough of the TL2 beta and thought the game was really really good.  Wierdest thing was... the music, the music was fantastic.  This surprised me as I usually don't care at all about music/ambience.  Anyways, I'm not going to go in super detail regarding the game's characteristics, sufficed to say, I thought the game was really fun.

I played the D3 beta and though it was ok.  I'll be buying D3 mostly b/c I have quite a few friends that will garrote me if I don't, however, once TL2 comes out, I suspect I'll be spending as much time as possible there.  I found TL2 to be more fun for me, than D3 was.

Just a bit of background, I'm not a fanboi of either game, nor do I hate Blizzard.  The above statements were based solely on my experiences being in the betas for both games.  I WILL be giving both games a chance.

+1 for legitimate opinion post without fanboi craze.

II'll be playing Diablo III for the exact same reasosns; however, I've always wanted to try Torchlight.

I didn't manage to get into the beat but from what I've heard people like it. We need a release date!

You say that like your suprised and expected it to be bad. If it was just tl1 with multiplayer it would be a good arpg.

the graphics are god awful, but the gameplay for 20 bucks is still likely a bargain, I may prepurchase with the offer for nwn beta, but haven't decided.  I assume GW2 will be out before I'm tired of D3, and so what's the point?

I forgot how stressful this kind of game is when you play with random people. It's a chaotic mess. It is really a cool game though, I liked it more than D3 but will probably play it alone.

I didn't think the graphics were that bad.  Comparison:

D3: good graphics, yet needs to be darker (more blacks vs current amount of blues).

TL2: OK graphics, they aren't as bad as people make them out to be (on max settings).  Lemme put it this way, I wasn't dissappointed nor did the graphics take away from the really great gameplay/pace TL2 provides.

Good work o.p. Playing the beta myself this weekend. Having  fun. The music is very Diablo 2. For a second it took me right back. Will be getting all three of these arpg's but Torchlight 2 has nothing to be ashamed of compared to D3 or POE. Yeah it doesn't have D3's polish or features but it has atmosphere, replayability, great skill trees and intresting weapon combo's. Also, it doesn't cost £50 so will probably get this first.  Think fans of this genre are very lucky this summer.

Am really looking forward to this game, but if someone wants to confirm this but im pretty sure the dev team are from the old diablo team which is why it feels so good, and the musician is the very same which is why it sounds so good.

Good news, I expected it to be pretty good, can't wait to play it.

Actually I think this dev team made FATE and Mythos (wish Mythos had lasted longer), both of which I played previously along with the "old" Torchlight.  All great stuff.  Would not surprise me if they were on the old Diablo games, but have not heard that.

I will be playing both but I am really enjoying T2 beta so far. The dev team is great, very responsive on the forums and even made  in-game items named after some of the beta testers.

This does not surprise me. The music is by Matt Uelmen, who also made the music for the original Diablo (which, players who played back then, will probably remember by its quite atmospheric music).

Did a quick look, and wikipedia has all the correect info. It is staff from the old blizz north so both diablos and as Solarine said, the very same musician. top team imo.

I've decided to post an update while D3 servers are down (again). Fkin awesome!  Goota admit that D3 picks up at later levels (not beta), when you start hitting larger packs of monters and its actually a challenge (albeit a moderate one)to stay alive.  Wow... that being said, I haven't played TL2 late game, so I don't know what thats like. Wow... (not WoW), WOW....

Well, only two developers from Diablo 2 are on the Torchlight team, there werea bout 10 lead developers on Diablo 2, so it doesn't really mean anything.

Also, for all we know those two implemeneted the worst things, how will we ever know?

Torchlight 2 hasn't impressed me yet, played beta, had a little fun, nothing special.

But maybe thats because I played Diablo 3 first and I'm a hardcore Blizzard fanboi?

Agreed. Fun game. Managed to pull me in much more than the D3 beta.

But between D3, TL2 and PoE my personal preference is leaning towards Path of Exile. It felt more realistic, scary and challenging and the freedom in character development was like a breath of fresh air.

played the beta myself and its fantastic..the music is amazing too..i had a full listen to the music on you tube.nice to see open areas like diablo rather than being in a dungeon all the time as well.looking forward to release.

    I agree I loved the TL2 beta.

To be honest I liked the TL2 beta better than D3's. I'm currently trying to level my Witch doctor to 60, but soon as TL2 comes out I'm all over that.

I just think it's a better representation and I actually want to level all the classes, adn I noticed something. In TL2 you don't have to start on normal oh I love this so much.

I like the art style as well, its cartoony but it grows on you fairly quickly, not ot dark but darkish and I like the flow of the classes so far.
