Hello all,
I just got an email from Anet that said someone (Hopefully you!) it said, had requested a password change. So I didn't click on the link in the email, I deleted it and went to the guild wars 2 account page from my iPad (in case I have a key logger). I looked on the page and under the Security Tab, it actually shows the locations of the login. Sure enough, there was a login that I did not recognize. I changed my password and all seems well for now. I didn't check yet, but has Anet talked about Authenticators?
This is nuts that people are attempting to steal accounts before the game officially releases! Anyone else have any issues?

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Yea, I got one of these last night. I did look at the email as it was officially from GW2 (had them on my contact list).
I don't see the point in trying to use "I forgot my password" email link to steal my stuff as they'd need access to my email to do so (which i cycle that once a month to a diff password of a newer variation).
Stupid hackers maybe?

I explained it above. The purpose is to get people to trust the email so that when they send a fake one people are more inclined to trust it.

You forgot the part where they don't know if those emails are valid anymore or not, and they also can't mirror GW2's support email 100% so if you're semi-intelligent (granted dumb people abound on the net) you'd have added their support email to your contacts. Therefore, all over GW2 emails are hostile phishing attempts ~

Nope. This is the real deal.
Using a rather long password, with upper case, numbers, and letters. Got an email this morning just after midnight, and account can not be accessed now.
Sent a support ticket to Anet...I guess I wont be playing this week.
I don't think so.. this was a real email from Anet. I checked the site and under the security tab, it showed that a strange ip had logged into my account. I clicked the "disconnect" button. I'm not sure what happened, but the email was from Anet.
If you guys get a chance, check that Security tab on your account and just see if it had been accessed by any strange ip's.
Yeah, I changed it just to be safe. I really wish they'd do authenticators.
The bigger the playerbase, the more valuable the game's in-game items and currency are. Scammers are attracted to large money floating around millions of users. Its the same reason why WoW has the most amount of gold sellers, scammers, and hackers.
GW2 will be targetted just like WoW.
lol I got this email as well
I havent even purchased GW2, played the Beta or anything else. I am not even registered on the ANet website. I assume, they are going thru their WOW database of email addresses and spamming em
The main way hackers get account information is by hacking fansites.
So in this case, if you have signed up for a GW2 fansite and used a similar username, password, and/or email address, these hackers have a part of your information that they will attempt to use to get your whole account.
In my opinion, its no longer worth it to sign up on guild websites or fansites because the information always gets stolen (it happened in WoW and EQ2) and then my email that I used when signing up for that site gets spammed with phishing links.
Yes, it's a real email from ANet. Never said it wasn't.

Exactly. They've more than likely got one of the massive gamer email lists floating around from last year's site hackings.

No signature, I don't have a pen
I've gotten it 4 times since the 25th. It's getting annoying. I really wish they'd add authenticators o I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Looking forward to: Crowfall & Chronicles of Elyria
After receiving the email several times (it's legit - so for those ignoring it, putting your head in the sand proves nothing), I checked the security link and discovered that my account had been accessed 6 times from other locations. Yes, locations.
Strangely, nothing was taken from my account that I could see. I have changed my password to something increasingly difficult and opened a ticket.
Seems ANet could do more than username and passwords. People keep saying the same thing over and over, don't give your password or account information to anyone. Considering I never have, I can only assume that whoever it is has gotten the login name information from somewhere else...i.e. gaming sites. If the hackers are automated, they can try millions of passwords until the right combination works.
If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand.
I got 11 of these emails all at the same time 12:23 today.
the thing is this is an email account i created soley for GW2 I havent used it for ANYTHING else. So Im nto sure whats going on. I went to the gw2 website(didnt click the link in emails) and changed my password just in case.
