It's pretty much simple, the ones that complained about the other mmo's prior to GW2 release are going to stick to their guns and praise this game even if it was delayed for another month and say ANET is trying to work out the kinks for a smooth launch. I already know the posters that either insulted or put down the other mmo's prior to GW2 release and believe me, there are plenty of them and they complain agaisnt the haters hating their game of choice.
Let's face it, GW2 wasn't a perfect launch and no matter how much of a GW2 fanatic player you are, you can always shove that GW2 wasn't a smooth launch at all and it all started with the early headstart this past Saturday. Some players even wanted compensastion since the early headstart, wasn't a early headstart for them.
Now I am not trying to cause trouble towards the game simply because I am playing it, however lets face the facts, it wasn't as smooth as Rift, SWToR or TSW. To some it might be a better game than those other 3. But far from a smooth launch. I even waited till Tuesday hoping ANET would have all the bugs squashed by the 28th.
As stated, if it was any other MMO, people would be crying, spitting, swearing and even propaganda against the the title saying 'There is no excuse for this type of launch, the developers had plenty of time to get it right for launch'. This game is a failure where do I get my refund."
The only reason aren't pissing and moaning is becuase their is no monthly sub fee, but if it did have one, all hell would have broken lose by now.
Now if I insulted GW2 fan, don't take it personally, I do like the game so far, but I call it as it is and what I have witnessed.
I'm just curious though, what is so game breaking?
What makes it sooo bad for you?

Representing my guild, which all I had to do was get into the main shard, and it would let me represent my guild again. (seems most their problems are coming from overflows).
I see this is a good launch, I was there for Rift, SW:TOR, Rift wasn't bad, i'd put them both about the same, but SW:TOR? Really? A good launch?
I'm not claiming GW2 launch is perfect, but come on if it was game breaking don't you think a majority of these threads would be zomg game breaking events or ANet failed it hard?
To each their own, but I don't see the game breakers here.

Whats up Wolvards, I just replied to Loke666 and think I answered the question here.
My biggest beef with the game so far is all the banning going on. Of course people need to be banned if they're purposely doing or saying something completely over the line. But I learned today that alot of my guild got banned for buying level 60 yellows for 21 karma. Even though some of them were using the mystic forge to exploit it it's still Anet's fault for the price and they shouldn't take the heat like that. Just take re-do the price and take the weapons back, why ban?
I'm sure the whole guild would have left the game by now, just for that if it was any game besides GW2.
Yes they made a mistake and made it 21 karma instead of whatever it should have been. People should have reported it instead of exploiting it.
The perma ban I am completely okay with but they should also perman ban botters too, not temp ban them.
+1
Far to many times in a newly launched MMO exploits that give a huge boost via items or currency not only go unpunished but screw up the game for the longterm so well done Anet for stepping in quick and dealing with the cheaters.
As to the OP, while I agree GW2's launch hasn't been perfect its not completly horrid either. As a EU player Iv lost maybe 2-3 hours of overall playtime due to login issues but I lost around the same amount of time to SWTOR's que system and TSW's many bugs so it all works out the same imho.
The mail system/AH hasn't been that big an issue for me due to how often normal mobs drop gear upgrades I can use.
The guild system has been a pain in the ass but as so many other posters have said due to the other 99.9999% of the game being just so damm good and a joy to play its something I can easly forgive.
Huh. Players forgave Blizzard just all kinds of really serious issues for the first six months. WoW's "Golden Age", in fact.
What were they thinking, enjoying themselves despite some problems? Didn't they know we have to fiddle and enjoy watching Rome burn, each and every time??
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

As already stated, it's mostly because the game is fun. I could take or leave games like WAR or SWTOR and probably forget to come back, they didn't blow me away.
Otherwise, unlike these other companies, I don't think ANet expected this and it didn't arise from laziness or cheapness; they're still the deserving group of devs I've come to know and respect. I wouldn't bail on a friend, so why should I bail on ANet? Once things are fixed, it'll be even better. Hopefully that's soon.. some people's patience is not as far-reaching as my own.
I don't know about not expecting, they knew how many pre-orders they had and these problems started before official launch during headstart which they definitely knew the numbers for.
Personally I've never been hard on any studio for launch issues, not going to start now. I just hope I don't see some of the posters in this thread berating fans of other games for being forgiving of problems, due to still enjoying themselves. Definitely don't wanna see the word "fanbois" in their posts.

Need to fix the overflow servers ... I understand the idea .. let people ingame instead of waiting at a log in screen .. but once you are on the main server you should STAY on the main server ..
Today has been a pain in the butt .. leaving every instance seemed to dump you back to the overflow server .. fine if you are alone but trying to duo the game and only one of you is being kicked back is annoying
I honestly like the game so much that I simply look past the issues it is currently having. My expectations are that the issues get fixed of course and I'm sure there is a time limit before I start to get grumpy, but the bottom line is, the game is great and the temporary lack of auctionhouse and an occasionally downed mail system just doesn't bother me enough.
It's like, i recognize these things as being failings on the part of ArenaNet and wish they did it right, but can't help but be impressed with every other detail in the game.
I've been too busy playing to even take the time to come read these threads. I have no idea what some people are talking about with login issues and such...i've played every day since head start began with no problems. Hell, I don't have a single player in my guild who has had any of these problems.
The auction house being up would be nice, but i can wait a few days to have it sorted out. The game is amazing..and most everyone who agrees is currently playing and not wasting time reading forums....

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR

Agreed. However, if I run out of bank space for sweet sellable loot before they get the Trading Post working, my tolerance will run a bit thin. And I'm getting pretty close to that point.

I can see where you are comeing from. The game has already had its 1st round of exploiters. (It's not Anet's fault, but it's still Anet's problem) I can say, I'm not thrilled that I've had log in issues, Though not so bad lately. I can't trade anything in the game. Can't buy and sell from other players. We've got people in the guild who were crafting all this gear and bags for other guild members only there is no way to get this stuff to them. And by the time that will be fixed, no one's going to need that gear anyway since they'll have outleeled it. My guild was deleted from the game, everyone in my guild is now guildless except for Vent. I have a friend in real life who just bought the game. He logs in and finds that he can't join me on my server and I can't join him without doing a full transfer. So, yeah, there are a lot of serious issues with this launch.
So someone who has never played before would ask why are you still playing?
Huh. Players forgave Blizzard just all kinds of really serious issues for the first six months. WoW's "Golden Age", in fact.
What were they thinking, enjoying themselves despite some problems? Didn't they know we have to fiddle and enjoy watching Rome burn, each and every time??
Yeah, pretty much. Nobody I know quit WOW because of the problems in the first few months. In fact, I do remember some people having absolutely frusrating problems, and trying for hours and hours only to get in a half hour's gaming... And they seemed to think it was worth it. They say a toaster could run WOW, but a lot of friends had to actually do a full system upgrade to play it, and you know what? They coughed up the dough and did it!
This is what happens when people enjoy a game.
People make a big deal out of a game's coding or service problems, and while I by no means imply that's not valid criticism, I always think it's not defining for the game. Quite a lot of my favorite games had really annoying bugs and/or other problems. In Planescape: Torment, you had to do a restart routinely. Yeah, it was sort of annoying, but I didn't mind one bit. I was loving it.
GW2, well I'm not what you'd call a fan, but I'm still managing to find stuff I enjoy (namely exploration), and as long as that lasts, I'm surely not going to quit over some game bugs or service problems.
Oh, and I didn't quit SWTOR over bugs, either. I did have stuff enjoyed, so I didn't mind.
Does that make me an enabler for buggy coding? I don't care. An ounce of creativity and good design makes up for a ton of bugs, in my book.
Huh. Players forgave Blizzard just all kinds of really serious issues for the first six months. WoW's "Golden Age", in fact.

One shouldn't expect the same from a child who just started school and an adult who just finished his post-graduate studies.

No, it isn't ANet's fault that your friends made the choice to exploit. Your compass here is fucked tbh. If I see some money on the counter I don't just steal it and blame the person for being careless or trusting
Personal responsibility is a beautiful thing. GJ to ANet and their agressive policing I say. Send out the right message and set the culture early.
That aside, your last statement is actually what I am saying in the OP. GW2 is a special game
I feel the same way. The WvsWvsW ques and the AH/Mail being down would be much more untolerable if the rest of the game wasn't absolutely perfect. I've had 0 problems with the game other than those two things.

Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.
lol was actually thinking the same .. Since when we duo me and the Mrs only PvE ... Just ignore the invites and sit on the overflow
I was thinking about this as well.
